0Neosis' Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny Tv Review

Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny

Rated: 6

Like SEED; Destiny is more about the characters devolopment rather than mecha robot fighting which I don't think is bad idea, however the characters are shown to various flaws that leads them into troubling situations which I suppose is to make them seem more human I guess. Cause these needs to be short I'll only focus on the three main protagonists. I must say the artwork of both the charcters and the mobile suits were impressive as most of the males and females were both handsome and beautiful in there own ways which maybe part of the reason while many people watch these show and it's previous show. As for the mecha's they quite decent but some of them were kinda copy offs from SEED in appearance. Most of the music is pretty good as it were pretty easy to listen to and enjoy.

Not much extras on the DVD's of GSD though(not like the amount of extras they put in the DVD's of Code Geass, and I like DVD extras). The storyline wasn't very good anymore after Stellar's death and Athrun's second-time defection from ZAFT, as well as Shinn's development into the the troubled new protagonist to Kira and Athrun's antagonist. It was wrong to take Athrun away from Shinn asit seemed to me that Athrun was the only one who could keep Shinn in line, whereas Lunamaria and Rey don't do much to keep Shinn's ego in check as much as Athrun did. Athrun was a good balance for Shinn's character as Athrun was like a mature big brother.

Unfortunately, the presentation is not really one of GSD's strong points, with some inconsistencies in exposition and scenarios, resulting in what I've cited as a " schizophrenic " feel. Some events felt rushed while others almost took forever to unfold, with Orb's internal political conflict, and Athrun's return to the Archangel being being cases in point, respectively.

Also, some elements such as the balance between conflicting sides, some subplots( most notably Meer and Stellar's respective roles ) and the lack of strategical basis in gaining victory during battles, further aggravated some poorly planned sequences in the series( one sometimes wonders how the Freedom disposed of the Saviour in a span of seconds, or how the Legend was disabled so easily...^^).

Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny

Like any anime, Gundam SEED Destiny has its good points and its bad points. The question is which ones prime overall. Let's take a look...

On the good side, the story is nicely developed and is well linked to that in the first series. We finally get to find out what Earth Alliance's 'extended' pilots really are (a side story which spreads some light on the behavior of the first three extended pilots in Gundam SEED - Shani, Orga and Crot). We finally get to see Raw Le Klueze's face for once (I just had to point that out XP). Also, the questions and problems raised by this series are quite deep and sometimes they leave you pondering. And finally, Gundam SEED Destiny contains a few bits of humour, which are pretty enjoyable, even though there's not that many of them.

On the bad side...

This series did a good job presenting itself, though there were some parts that got confusing unless if you seen the first Gundam Seed. Overall it can do a decent job standing on its own without the first Gundam Seed. I was able to enjoy each scene as they went by; the fight scenes, the scenes between Athrun and Kira, the scenes involving Dullindal, etc. They were able to clearly state the moral of this series loud and clear. I was able to get it in the first 10 episodes. Yes that may seem kind of quick but sometimes you can't enjoy a series if you have to keep trying to figure out the moral. Its good to beable to watch a series without having to think so much.

Not a very original series but enjoyable if you had never watched the older Gundam Series. Ignorance is bliss. Fukada made no effort to be original whatsoever. Also, the entire series was obviously his point of view on current political matters between America and the rest of the world. It was obvious there was no intention to entertain hard core Gundam fans with this series, but instead it was focus on the "newer" generation of Gundam fans. That would explain the boyband demi-god pilots and the lack of realism. What was most irritating was the fact that this series did not even connect to Gundam Seed in terms of plot. The only thing the two series had in common were the old cast.

Okay, since this is a Gundam, it stopped being original awhile ago. Especially since many aspects of the plot are taken from Zeta, as well as other Gundam series. Heck, they even have Zakus, Goufs and DOMs now! Not that I'm complaining, because it still manages to take Gundam in a slightly new direction. DO NOT WATCH GUNDAM SEED DESTINY IF YOU’RE LOOKING FOR A FUNNY TIME! Gundam is usually not funny at all, and this really is no exception. I’ve probably laughed about twice in the 44 episodes that have been released. Quietly. Though that is not a bad thing, because it’s not trying to be funny, it’s almost always very serious and tense. But if you’re looking for something a little more dramatic, look no further.

Myaki's Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny Tv Review

Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny

Rated: 6

Despite the grade I gave the storyline, Gundam Seed Destiny is still a watchable show. I haven't been watching every episode, I can admit, but almost every song from that series is on my playlist that I listen to every day, and I still watch many of the episodes for entertainment when I don't want to have to think about anything.

The originality, however, went away slowly once Athrun started even considering rejoining Zaft. And on that same note, the plot twists are either too predictable or completely bizarre beyond the point of all reason.

But onto other points, there is humor laced in there between the constant angst, the out of character people and the 'Yamatownage', as I've seen Kira's invincivle power as a mobile suit pilot called.
