Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny

Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny tv Review

The year is CE 73. Two years after the battle of Jachin Due, tensions still run high between naturals and coordinators. ZAFT has developed several new mobile suits, including several new gundams, and is preparing to unveil them to the world.

However, three of the gundams are hijacked by three of the EAF's Extendeds: Sting Oakley, Auel Neider, and Stellar Loussier. To recover the stolen mobile suits, the new ZAFT battleship Minerva heads out, with Shinn Asuka piloting the new Impulse Gundam. Once again, the world is plunged into a state of war between ZAFT and the EAF. Where will this new war lead? And how will the heroes of the previous war, Athrun Zala and Kira Yamato, react?

Story & Characters

Yet, another Gundam series. Another war involving gundams and two races that hate each other. It's not like we have seen it before in one version or another. Gundam Seed Destiny, sequel to the popular Gundam Seed series, had standards that it needed to meet as far as the story goes. Yet they repeated pretty much what happened in the first Gundam Seed. For example, you have the destruction of the popular gundams. In Gundam Seed it was the Strike and the Aegis, in Gundam Seed Destiny it was the Freedom and the Justice. After the destruction they get improved gundams making them seem god-like and invincible. Talk about redundancy. The story is weird to because it started out as Shinn being the main character, the main focus, of this story yet half way through the series the story focuses more on Kira and Athrun. What is up with that? Then you have a love story that doesn't even really go anywhere. Athrun asks Cagalli to marry him, they get separated for a while, then its really not brought up till the final episodes. That doesn't fit very well. If they are going to introduce that love story (which frankly I was really looking forward to), I'd wish they would actually finish it.There are some good points to the story. For example this story really makes you think and can be easily related to as far as the discrimination between Naturals and Coordinators go. Then there is the whole relationship between Athrun and Kira. Being friends since childhood and then having to go against one another in the previous war, itâ??s nice to see them talk like friends and not like enemies. It's really refreshing. But in the end it's still not enough to make this story a worthwhile one.

Art

The art is one of the high points of this series. Like the first Gundam Seed, it provides some amazing cg animation combined with the animation of the characters and scenery. The space battles were developed nicely and I felt as if I was there in a mobile suit watching each fight unfold. It gave me goosebumps at a couple scenes when Shinn and Athrun or when Shinn and Kira fought because of how well it was made. I think the characters were done very well and they improved the style a little bit since the first series. Well done.

Sound

The music was excellent aside from one song. The song done by Chemistry as the opening song to the last 10 to 15 episodes did not work whatsoever. It was a poor choice. The song itself was a well done song but the genre of the song didn't fit with the anime. I think they could've done better. It was great to hear/see singers like Rie Tanaka and Nami Tamaki come back to do the music for the sequel. They are fantastic singers and their style of music fit perfectly to Gundam Seed Destiny. The voiceovers for this series were also done well. There are a couple voices of some of the new characters that I didn't really care for but the effot each actor/actress put into their characters was superb that I can overlook the annoyances. I didn't think voice actors/actresses when I watched the series but instead I thought the voices were the real voices for the characters.

Presentation

This series did a good job presenting itself, though there were some parts that got confusing unless if you seen the first Gundam Seed. Overall it can do a decent job standing on its own without the first Gundam Seed. I was able to enjoy each scene as they went by; the fight scenes, the scenes between Athrun and Kira, the scenes involving Dullindal, etc. They were able to clearly state the moral of this series loud and clear. I was able to get it in the first 10 episodes. Yes that may seem kind of quick but sometimes you can't enjoy a series if you have to keep trying to figure out the moral. Its good to beable to watch a series without having to think so much. Overall, if you seen the first Gundam Seed, this is going to seem really redundant till the final 10 episodes, then it will slowly start showing something you haven't seen or heard before.

    X) Your review is very nicely written.
And yes, I agree that the sounds and music of Gundam Seed Destiny is superb. xD
Overall, I enjoyed watching this anime... however, I find that flashbacks were too frequent... and towards the end of the anime, it gets confusing. =S

I agree with your review on the "Sound" aspect. Lol.. every and one of the song was really good.. but Chemistry's Wings of Words.... ughhhhh ... Anyways, I too liked it when SEE-SAW and Tanaka Rie sang for the Ending and insert songs.

The best thing I like about the SEED series is because.. they never fail in putting the right song that puts the right mood(only me, I guess.. and talking about "not failing".. WoW doesn't fails.. its just a little ticklish at the beginning..)

    Btw, nice review ;)

You got it right. The story's so blur and most of the scenes and stories are just like Gundam Seed. Man, when i watched Athrun proposed to Cagali, i was like wow~ now they're getting married and they love each other more each day. But after that everytime became a disaster when Athrun's like don't really care about Cagali and he's keep thinking abt Mai ==" I agree on the music, sounds and art. They're really better than seed.

I must agree that the whole GSD is very nice. But, come to think about it, it's kinda like a remake. There's some spoilers for those of you who haven't finished watching it yet, so I'd might as well not say it :)
