Z827's xxxHOLiC Tv Review

Rated: 8

This is a Review of xxxHolic ( Season I ) :
Essentially , xxxHolic is a fine mix of morality with light humor and a bit of storyline as side-ingridients. Every few episodes or so , a morality value which is to be learnt is almost always there , either learning not to lie and stuff like that...you get the idea.
The storyline is quite intriuging to a certain extent , further supported by the usage of mythology references to the Japanese culture to keep this alive , if you ARE curious enough anyway.
Well , Season I was simply a stepping stone for the later Seasons I believe , I haven't watched the Anime yet but I have read bits of the Manga so more under-elaborated characters would be explained further later on , but definitely not in this Season.

Review of Season 2

Given the disaster that was the first season, I was quite impressed by this second season of 13 episodes. Although it was generally uneventful as a whole, I believed it successfully carried out its main goal - to leave one with a very CLAMP-esque story of optimism, mysticism and friendship.

The most positive aspect of xxxHolic's 2nd season was that they tied all the episodes together somehow. Sure, each episode had stories that weren't really reflective of the overarching arc, but it was also not the typical one problem a day episode. Rather, in each episode, I really felt that Watanuki discovered more about himself, as well as the limits of his optimism.

Kori's xxxHOLiC Tv Review

All in all, I do not regret watching xxxHOLiC and I found it to be worth my time. I enjoyed it, and at times it was even educational in the Japanese folklore. More investigation is needed, though, before I know entirely if what's being said is true.

In some episodes, they were successful in creating a very creepy atmosphere, sometimes not. Also, some unpredicted humour were added and much appreciated.

It is understandable if xxxHOLiC may not live up to everyone's expectations. Being an anime by CLAMP, it does have a lot to live up to. I haven't read the manga and can therefore not say anything about that, or compare it to the anime. If you are, however, like me and don't have much expectations, then you may perhaps appreciate and enjoy this special anime.

Shoujoboy's xxxHOLiC Tv Review

Oh how I wanted to love this show. Once my friends hear me badmouth a CLAMP show, their jaws are going to drop. It had a nice premise overall but did not execute. The fact that it took many Japanese myths, popular culture and superstitions and created odd little stories surrounding them was a nice touch. And admittedly there were some very enjoyable moments; particularly the snowball fight episode. But when the show came to a close, I found myself not disappointed that there was no more to be seen, but more relieved that I could finally move on. It never had a climax. Never did it have a contiguous story. It reused its jokes entirely too much. Most of the characters were unoriginal and the ones that were, didn't play a large part in the end.

Kori's xxxHOLiC Ova Review

xxxHOLiC - A Midsummer Night's Dream is a very nice supernatural-horror anime with a successful creepy atmosphere, and in that, humour has been baked in it. However, it doesn't explain the background to those who haven't read the manga. I, for one, haven't, and so I have absolutely no clue why Watanuki, for example, have the ability to see things. In spite of that, you will still be able to enjoy the movie, that is if you don't get stuck to 'why' this and 'why' that. Maybe it'll be explained in the TV show, and if not, and you still want to know 'why', then you simply have to read the manga.
