Story & Playability
I won't go into detail on what you already know. 2 years after the original game events, an illness called
geostigma torments the people, and with no hope in sight they look towards a man who gave up being a hero to live in
solitude, Cloud Strife. Now as far as the stories concerned, you will most likely be lost if you haven't played the
original game. Certain elements attempt to touch the fabric of the original game but never really help you understand
why. Hell to be honest, if you haven't played the game more than once you'll still be kind of lost. But to be
true to the story, the characters were pretty good. The attitudes that everybody had in the original game are still
here. Cloud becomes a cold loner once again, Reno is comical and a badass as he ever was, etc. etc. The new characters
were odd yet believable that they were just soulless and completely destructive. Over-all the story was very nice, bad
sadly seamed to end a bit too soon and still does not quite explain a lot about the ending of the first game.

Graphics
The character designs are completely astounding. Being a 3D art major in college, I've learned to appreciate good
work and this most definitely was astounding. "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within" was just one technological
advantage, this one takes it to the next level. The animation is flawless, the characters are detail-for-detail amazing,
and the world (backgrounds, people, trees, etc.) are truly unbelievable (in a good way)! The monsters definitely felt
unreal and devastating. After watching this movie you can't just wish they would remake the original Final Fantasy
VII game. A graphical upgrade is one thing, but a complete overhaul with modern technology is on a completely different
level of greatness. The costumes were very refreshing and the detail still makes my mouth drop down. The weapons you
just can't believe. The mechanics scheme of Clouds new sword was just eye opening. Being a fan of the original game
(practically playing it to death) the art was definitely a change of pace for the best. Sadly, for fans of the original
game, Cait Sith has given up the huge robotic mog for riding on the back of REDXIII. The 3D is the best well see for
years to come and is only a milestone of what technology is accomplishing. Do not associate this with Finding Nemo,
Monsters Inc., A Bugs Life, and whatever full 3D movie is out there, this has definitely raised up the bar in what 3D
action movies should look like (with the latter only being Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within). Some action scenes maybe
totally unbelievable but are completely flawless in terms of character animation.

Sound
Nobuo Uematsu is truly a genius. Being with Final Fantasy for so many years, you just can't help but appreciate his
work. If you were fortunate enough to see his Dear Friends or More Friends concerts, you'll know how hard this guy
works. The soundtrack includes his band, The Black Mages, redoing a lot of the old sounds. Most notably redone is People
Fight and People Fight Again music. The sound truly set the mood for this movie. Giving it the tragic orchestral sounds
to the hardcore punk-rock sound in there respective situations. Even Nobuo Uematsu went back and did the piano for this
moving (you will most definitely hear the difference in quality from Nobuo Uematsu's piano versions compared to
Shiro Hamaguchi and Seiji Honda's piano versions [which is the FFVII Piano Collections] This is due to time
constraints, Nobuo Uematsu wasn't able to do the original FFVII Piano Collections. Hearing Nobuo's versions on
the Advent Children soundtrack was very much a nice refreshing touch down memory lane. The soundtrack is 2 discs long
and very much worth your time if you loved it in the Advent Children movie.
Sound effects. Boom! Crash! Baaazing! Okay no Baaazing but the sound effects were definitely high quality. You can get
the feel for the metal scraping, the guns blazing, the flesh being bruised or torn, and etc. When weapons collide the
sound sends a chill up your spine, it's just that much quality. When punches are thrown, you can hear them fly
through the air and you get another chill when you actually hear it collide with something. The effects were most
definitely believable that it almost entraps you inside the situation that you're seeing before your eyes.
Now on to the voices. I don't know about the English version (well know in February... but seeing as we have Lace
Bass, yes the one guy from the boy band Nsync, set to reprise his Kingdom Hearts roll voice of Sephiroth... I'm
scared...). But here's my review of the Japanese voices. Since in the Final Fantasy VII game, none of the
characters had voices. This means that you had to create your own voice for the characters by hearing there storyline,
listening how they talk or respond, etc. This movie did a very good job of making the voice acting just as if I was
imagining the characters themselves from the original game talk. Shogo Suzuki does an outstanding job as Vincent
Valentine, the voice is cold and yet emotional just as you'd picture hearing the real voice from the game. You
don't hear him as much as Cloud or Loz but for the time allotted, Vincent had one of the best voices in the game.
Everyone else did a standard job of bringing the voices in my imagination alive, of course a lot of people complained
mostly because they were reading the subtitles more often that listening to the voices. Good thing for me I didn't
need subtitles. All-in-all the voices were very good.

Fun
Overall the entire ride was rather short but very much worth the watch none-the-less. This maybe just because I'm
studying 3D and design in my classes that I found watching this movie over-and-over again worth it. Just seeing 3D
animation of this quality in an action movie truly states that soon enough we may just have no need for physical actors
anymore, just voice. Detail wise was very good. Cloth acted like cloth, metal acted like metal, no random jumps or
anything. The animation was flawless and was the high point of this movie. Given that this is not for everybody. People
set for story-wise will be lost right away if they didn't properly understand the video game. Certain elements of
this movie require you know key events in the past game. Sadly the story is mostly linear and focuses around
Cloud's rise again to save the planet from a new enemy and an enemy that threatens to cause the rebirth of a
primary foe of Cloud. At the end it leaves you wishing that it gave most of a background (which comes into play that
they expect you to play the old game). I watched Advent Children a lot of times and at the first watch, I erased my mind
and looked at it from a perspective that you've never played the game before. I was immediately lost. The feeling I
got was that I didn't care for most of Clouds teammates at all. You barely get to hear about what they've been
up to or what's been going on. I then watched it from a gamer's perspective that just completed the game; I
found it very intriguing and exciting. But sadly still does not explain the end scene of Final Fantasy VII... anyhow it
really wasn't an end scene anyway... Just like... a clip sort of speaking. If the movie was longer and explained
more elements, this would be a flawless movie. But as of this point, the sound was great, the art was definitely great,
the storyline was standard, and over all only fans of the series and of 3D modeling and design will be able to truly
appreciate this work of art.
