Pita Ten manga Review

Story & Playability

Kotarou Chan is a lonely lonely boy. His mother died when he was young and his father is always busy at work, leaving home early and only stopping by at home late at night for dinner. Sometimes, he doesn't even stop by home. No wonder why Kotarou feels lonely. Same routine, day in, day out; cooking cleaning and studying for his major exam. Today is no different; he closes the door of his house, ready to leave for school when-- What?? What's that? ... GO OUT WITH HIM??!!

A girl called Misha shows herself to Kotarou that fateful day and asks him out. She even joins him at school and eventually introduces herself as his new neighbour. Everything is fine and dandy, the only problem being Misha, for some reason, seems to be OBSESSED with stalking Kotarou, to the extent Kotarou's best female friend in school, Koboshi (who has a major crush on Kotarou himself), is driven mad with jeaousy and envy. The plot of the story thickens as Shia, a mysterious girl who gives Kotarou and Misha strange headaches (literally!) appears and Misha reveals to Kotarou that she's an angel who wants to be his mama (Kotarou actually refuses this preposition)! Eventually, the questions which lie in the manga is "Who is in Love with Who??", "The mysterious pasts of Shia and Misha" and "What about our poor main character Kotarou??" A tangled love triangle is formed between every single character in the manga, and the mysterious 2 girls Shia and Misha seem to grow even more mysterious as we go deeper into the story. And Kotarou, who used to be lonely and task-oriented, had his whole life turned upside down!! And I guess the moral of THIS story is be happy with the little you have, or you might have your life turned topsy turvy..!

Graphics

The art, at first, is seen as very blotchy, and mistakes can be seen in the inkings. However, as you read deeper and deeper into the story, this tiny mistakes do not seem to matter anymore. And if you compare Volume 1 to Volume 8 (the last volume), you see a remarkable improvement, in inking, toning and drawing. The way Koge Donbo colours her eyes is now different as well! The way Koge Donbo CGs is also different. An example is the way she colours the highlights on her characters' hair. Previously, it looked like it was done by a brush tool in Photoshop, but later looks like it was done with a pen tool.

However, the way Koge Donbo draw retains its basic 'structure' of super-large eyes and gothic lolita-like clothing in her manga. This super cute way of drawing is very suitable for a romance-cum-comedy manga like Pita Ten and has a very unique look to it; a Koge Donbo drawn thing could be spotted from a mile away..!

The clothes drawn for the characters are VERY cute (really!!); Misha dons giant frills and a beret-like hat when we first met her asking Kotarou to go out with her. Shia wears a giant white hat with roses on it and a neat little white dress with laced stockings. All these do nothing but boost the Kawaii factor of the manga.

Sound

This is a manga review, so there is no sound to review. However, since i'm here, I suggest you read Pita Ten in a quiet place. it's more effective. :)

Fun

one thing for sure; Pita Ten is enjoyable! Even though the storyline may be confusing, everything is explained out to you slowly and in an easy way in the manga.

The humour in the manga is also unique; it is expressed in drawings (e.g. a shocked Kotarou when Misha offers her services as his mother), attitudes of characters (e.g. Koboshi getting flustered over Misha glomping Kotarou) and words. All these factors sum up to create a super humourous manga!

But dont get me wrong; Pita Ten can be serious. The expressions on the characters and the screentones used soften the mood of the story when needed, and Koge Donbo really knows when and how to use these screentones and expressions.

Therefore, I conclude Pita Ten is a must-read for all you kawaii-lovers! ^o^p
