Bleach

Bleach tv Review

The series begins in the human world, with the sudden entry of a stranger into Ichigo's bedroom. This stranger is Rukia Kuchiki, a Soul Reaper (in the Japanese version, a shinigami, literally God of Death). After an ensuing conversation, Ichigo and Rukia are forced into combat against a hollow (evil spirit). Rukia is disabled, and forced to transfer her power into Ichigo, transforming him into a Soul Reaver. As it turns out, Ichigo is very powerful, and even has a semi-unique zanpukat? (sword that is his primary weapon, it is much larger than most). Ichigo makes quick work of the hollow, and Rukia leaves.

The next day, she shows up in his classroom, apparently a normal human student. It turns out that Ichigo has completely absorbed her abilities, and she must recover them by using a temporary human form, Gigai. It is later revealed that the Gigai she entered was specially designed by Urahara and given to her. In the mean-time, Ichigo must take over her job, cleansing the hollows in the region.

As Ichigo get involved in a closer friendship level to Rukia, Ichigo got more to know about Shinigami life and its issues.

Story & Characters

In the world of Bleach, it focuses upon a certain fifteen-year-old "punk", to say the least, Kurosaki Ichigo, who has the uncanny ability to see, touch, and talk to ghosts. He has been seeing these spirits for nearly his whole life, and although it isn't normal, it's as close to normal as you can get when you see spirits everyday. However, his strange life style has just got stranger. He begins to see abnormally large monsters, and unexplainable disturbances begin circling around him. Eventually, when things start to get out of hand, a mysterious girl begins to appear, stopping all of these "monsters". Ichigo meets this girl once more, and the girl explains herself to be a shinigami, god of death. Kuchiki Rukia, which was her name, is the protector of his prefecture, and suddenly, in the midst of their conversation, the household is attacked...

The plot of "Bleach" is certainly new and refreshing. Sure, they're actually a lot of "human-seeing ghost" animes, but few lack the originality placed in Bleach. Also, the variation of the scenes in each episode is an eye-catcher; rarely do you see an anime that has different directions each episode, and these are usually geared towards exposing more of the character's personalities. The characters are certainly not boring, as they have a wide range of personalities in different situations. It allows the viewer to get a feel of why each character does what they do, whether it be their past, their friends, or the people they love.

Another note that I'll make is that the anime version of "Bleach" is actually quite different from the manga version. The general outline of time and space is the same, but some parts in the anime divulge more information, and vice versa.

Art

The artwork of "Bleach" is certainly among some of the best I have ever seen. The character's faces are generally a focal point of how they feel at the moment. It is also great to see how at certain points at the anime that the eyes allow you to see the inner feelings of a character. The CG of several parts throughout an episode feels kind of blurred, to add to the effect of wind I suppose; it's only around fight scenes. The fighting scenes are very well done, and the action itself isn’t too fast to follow, which is one of the things that sometimes happens to animes like Dragonball Z, etc. Some effects that they did throughout the series made it look absolutely new.

Rating: 9

Sound

The soundtrack of “Bleach” isn’t actually on the top. I just didn’t feel very comfortable with the correlation of music, like the background. The fighting had appropriate sounds, and the effects were actually well done. For example, the grinding of sword on sword was fairly accurate, and explosions of large proportions actually sounded right. The voice acting was great; the sound of Ichigo’s voice in whatever situation he was in fitted wonderfully. However, other than that, the “Bleach” sounds in general weren’t all that good, and I expected something more fitting.

Rating: 6

Presentation

“Bleach” is definitely a very enjoyable anime to watch. Regardless of how far they progressed through the anime, there is always something that loosens you up. The humor is exceptional, being the fact that Ichigo is so clueless. The art of "Bleach" is far above average, and although the certain style of drawing may not be up to the standards for some people, it is actually still very good. The fight scenes are easily comprehended, unlike other anime, and it almost never repeats itself. The sounds, as I mentioned, weren't all that great, but it is still above average. The voice actors are very good, as they express the emotion in their voice accordingly to the different scenes. The plot in general is very refreshing and new; it takes the cliche ghost-seeing human and turns it totally another direction. By the way, you really can’t have seen a funny, slightly gory, magic and action anime until you’ve seen Bleach.

Good review, but the manga and anime for Bleach are mediocre at best. The art was bland and the story and setup were too cliche, at least for me they were.

Yeah, same opinion here.. I think Bleach story is not always good, it seems to me at some point it seems the mangaka is running out of ideas, the story is jumping here and there

Its a really good review. I agree with revontulet the sound and the music really fits into place with bleach. The humor in bleach is some of the best I've see.

^^ I'd have to disagree with you on the Sound. I for one love Home Made Kazoku and all the songs Bleach has.... But we're all entitled to our own opinions x3 =] But the art is very good x33 hehe! <3

Bleach is my fav Anime right now. I have watched 49 so far and can't wait for the next one. The sound is great only Tsubasa Chronicle sound is better IMHO

Bleach so far is one the top of my list of anime. It doesn't have a corny theme like some anime I've seen out there that try too hard to impress. The art for both the manga and the anime are great. I'm up to volume 8 of the manga and I've seen up to episode 27 so far. As a fellow artist I wish I drew like they could and their ideas only fuel my drive to create more ideas for my manga.

the storyline is quite good too, give about 7, but there's also so much fighting again...
the art is so-so, about 6
    overall, it's a good presentation...7

well.. the Sound effects were actually waay about average.. whenever there is a big fight.. the play amazing back ground music.. and it isnt too loud.. but it's loud enough to get you worked up..
The Manga and the Anime are going in the same direction.. but some certain information arent displayed directly in the Anime like the Manga.. but they are both very much the same..
the Art is exceptional.. and the Presentation is close to perfect..

other than what I mentioned.. I agree with Term1nal

Well, i beg to differ. I personally think that the anime is a little below average. The manga however is different. Its way better than the anime version.

I really loved the first part of the anime but now these fillers, although not the same kind of boring fillers as in Naruto, are really killing me. Still, a very good anime :)
