Final Fantasy X-2 tv Review

Two years after the defeat of Sin, Spira is once again in a state of disarray. Two factions are now vying for control, leaving one scantily clad Yuna in the middle. The former High Summoner has shed her old ways and is off in search of new adventure. Upon finding a video of a certain "you know who," she sets off on a journey to find more clues. With the aid of some old friends and help fom some new allies, she is off to save the world once again!

Story & Characters

Of all the Final Fantasy's I have played, Final Fantasy X-2 has to have the worst and most lame story ever. First off, this game is painfully short and only lengthened by New Game Plus, which I had previously though Square to be above doing to their Flagship series, particularly for their first direct sequel. The Story revolves around Yuna(the main character) going on a quest after a character she believes to be Tidus(who "died"(and it's debatable whether he was alive to begin with in FFX)) that she sees in a sphere(a recording) that was given to her. This sparks her little quest to find him travelling the world. Unfortunately, there are a painful amount of plot holes in this game, particularly in relation to the Farplane. Also, Yuna's character has gone and done a complete U-turn (and no, I say the dresssphere didn't do it). And I seriously doubt Tidus death was enough for her to go prancing around in skimpy outfits. The new character, Paine's past in the series provides some relief to the rather lousy story in this game, so for that at least I'm thankful. Aside From Yuna, Rikku and Paine are the other playable characters.

Art

The character drawings and fmv's for this game are generally lower then what I believe Square-Enix's standards for previous FF games to be, but they are still a heck of a lot better then most other games in the genre. The FMV's are well done being 3-d and all, but there's a heck of a lot less of them then in previous Final Fantasy games. Character art and their animation in non-fmv sequences is thankfully still up to snuff. Background work too is very well done. Battle attack/ability/magic animations are still also up to usual FF standard and so is well done. In general the art part of this game, though not as good as other FF's, was the most well done.

Sound

Oh Boy the OST for this final fantasy is terrible, with the lone exception of 1000 words. The Opening theme plain stinks, especially when it is done i English by Jade (but if you heard the Original Singer Koda Kumi's English translation, Jade would sound good.). The OP sounds a heck of a lot better in Japanese then in English, it shudve stayed in its original language. Thankfully, the same cannot be said of the 2nd theme song, 1000 words. The rest of the soundtrack is again below par for FF standards. Often the sound does not fit the scene and it gives the game a kiddy feel, which is rather annoying. As for speech, it was done OK, sometimes the characters mouths don't move in time to the speech in English, but it's not so bad. Sound was not done well in this game.

Presentation

This Final Fantasy was the 2nd worst Ive ever played, If i didn't have a personal grudge and bias against FFIX this would proabably be the absolute worst. First off, its terribly short, the new game plus was just an easy way to extend the game while working less, and I had though Square-Enix to be above using New game plus for that until now. There are only three playable characters, and although there's no problem in battle variety with dresspheres, only three characters really doesn't help with story, especially since they weren't exactly what I would call well developed. Due to all the playable characters being female and with skimpy outfits, this game has a Charlie's Angels feel to it, which i feel does not belong The story gaps don't exactly help this game's cause either. As for difficulty, the main story bosses and most of the side ones are easy enough, its only the 100 level optional dungeon thats hard, and that can be extremely hard. Its still an enjoyable and playable game overall, but don't go in expecting too much.
