Kodomo no Omocha tv Review

Story & Characters

the storyline is just so good. watch the first episode and you'll get hooked almost immediately. Although at first glance, this anime may seem to be your typical "grade-school-kids-antics" kind of eye candy, i can assure you this is not totally like that. A few episodes later, the story gets rather dark, angsty, depressing for some. As pasts and truths begin to unfold at the later episodes, you'll find it really difficult to take your eyes off the television.

Sana, our female main character, is a hyperactive child actress with a unique personality one will find difficult to dislike. Hayama, the monkey king, may seem to be a jerk at first, but just see how the story progresses from there... the second part of the anime may be a bit mushy and draggy, but if you dont mind LOADS of filler episodes, go for this anime.

one word to sum up kodocha--- hilarious. There are countless times i found myself clutching my stomach, rolling on the floor, laughing like a maniac. the expressions you see are enough to leave your tummy aching til the next day.

Art

since this anime is produced in 1996, the animation is not something that i will say top notch. In fact, art-wise, it is no where compared to later animes such as cardcaptor sakura or pretear. However, the bright, vibrant colours used in the animation brings out the fun and happy side of the story. In fact, the colours bring out the mood of the story very well. Character design is not too bad, their SD forms are really worth seeing. animated. some SD moments can get REALLY funny. Other parts of the animation such as the hair, can look pretty stiff sometimes, but overlook that part and everything else is perfect. The characters' clothes are also overused. Hayama wears the same striped top everytime i see him appear and that really irks me. But then again, most anime characters wear the same clothes for easy recognition, so i guess we'll just have to overlook that flaw once again.

Sound

The OP, sung by TOKIO, is really upbeat and fun to listen to, although you may find yourself pressing the scan button after a few episodes. I personally hate the ED though, as i find it a tiny bit too whiny. The background musics in the series itself are well-used for desirable effects, esp. when the kids are shooting daggers at each other. the drum beats are so refreshing AND most importantly, sets the "let's fight!" mood. Sana's frequent mad-hat raps are also highly enjoyable.
The second OP is really funny, i just find the way the singer sings it tickling.

Presentation

the only thing that makes me stay glued in front of my television screen is the fact that Kodocha is SO FUN to watch! it's storyline may not be the most original around, but it sure is made into something so exciting that you just have to watch another episode just to find out what happens next.

also, the scenes are drawn in dramatic ways, and each similar scene is drawn different from the previous one. This aspect of the anime makes it fresh, as similar scenes tend to bore the audience.

the most prominent quality of kodocha- its highly humorous plot. nothing can ever beat sana's weird expressions, her loud and screechy voice, how vigorously she moves and my personal favourite, "the thing". "the thing" is that red toy that she carries around unnoticed, which will be pulled out as a weapon (usually hayama is the victim of her wrath) when Sana is ticked off. Such scenes can really leave one laughing out loud and begging for more.

another hilarious element of kodocha is mama's hats. She wears the weirdest hair accesories which house her pet squirrel, Maro-chan. The crazy thing about mama is, her hair accesory changes EVERY time she is on screen, and the fact that she is wearing and mini-merry-go-round is enough to leave the audience gawping for a long long time.

I love akito. But i also think sana rocks. But I knew they would fall in love, after all opposites do attract.

Kodocha is one of my favorite anime out there! I'm usually the type of person to hate weird art, but man, Kodocha is one exception.
