In a not-so-distant future, a popular game hits the nations. Millions of users join this role-playing game filled with monsters to slay, treasure to recover, and a place to meet new people. Welcome to the World.

A young Wavemaster called Tsukasa one day wakes up in this strange place. He does not know who he is, what he is doing here, and lest of all how he got here. When he tries to log out, he realises he cannot do so. In the World, if a player dies, they restart where they last saved. For Tsukasa, however, it is a whole different game. If he dies in the World, he will die and will not be able to re-start the game. Luckily, he meets some friends along the way, and together they travel the World hoping to find the legendary "Key of the Twilight" as well as what is going on behind Tsukasa's past.

Will Tsukasa ever get out of the World, or will he be trapped forever?

Story & Characters

Hmm.. no .Hack//Tasogare no Udewa Densetsu here... so, I take this one, sorry.

.Hack//Tasogare no Udewa Densetsu

Story

After the TWILIGHT event in .Hack//games, all the events are hidden by CC Groups from the truth, and with that, the truth within The World is hidden deeply. .Hack//Tasogare continues about 5 years after .Hack//games finished.

There are some differences from the manga version and anime version. Because the manga version hasn't completed in my country, now I focus on anime version then.

The story starts when a new player Rena Kunisaki got the special characters, Kite and BlackRose from .hack//games which has reputation as .Hackers. With that special characters, Rena asks her separate brother Shugo Kunisaki (who got separated after their parents divorced) to use character Kite, so they can meet in The World.

However, a misfortune come up with Data Bug (undefeateable monster) comes and beat Shugo. Shugo which is trapped in The World got ressurected by Aura, the misterious AI, and gives him the Twilight Bracelet, allows him to use Data Drain, which can alter the data from the monster and even players.

The story goes linear, but after Balmung, one of .HAckers knows something up behind the truth, the story gets more interesting. And then, they know that these special characters Kite and Blackrose contest was not from CC Groups, then who and what are they aiming? The story got its peak when Rena (Blackrose) got beaten by Data Bug and her soul got trapped within The World. That means in the real world, Rena got comatosed, and now it rely on Shugo and his friends to open the secrets within The World...

However, in manga the story is about how they try to find out the "last secret" that has found by .Hackers, and how Aura's daughter comes up which is so different than anime. Well, anyway, due to the art which is so different than .hack//SIGN, the atmosphere got friendlier.

Rating :: 8 / 10 (only Chrono Crusade can get best of Project .Hack//)

Rating: 8

Art

Well, ones who see .hack//SIGn will know that the arts of .Hack//TAsogare just ssoo different, because .Hack//Tasogare has the chibi-style and well the Data Drain effect and Gate Hacking just doesn't like the game version. So, basically .Hack//SIGN has better, but with the better characater designs from .Hack//Tasogare, hm... so hard to find which is better.

But, rahter tha seeing .HAck//Liminality, well I like .HAck//Tasogare better. Why? Maybe because Liminality has 'real' kind of art, which Tasogare has anime instead.

Sound

The opening... by BeeTrain and I don't really like this one. Why?
Because from all of .Hack//'s songs, only this is VERY different. Even .hack//liminality is far better from opening song, but ending song is good, and shoes us how the siblings (Rena and Shugo) loves each others (as brother-sister).

For BGM, the atmosphere got simpler here, that's why .Hack//SIGN is better than this, but after episode 5, the atmosphere got normalized as the rest of Project.HAck//, and nearing the end, BGMs are far better, you see.

Rating: 7

Presentation

The originality is not that much, why?
Because this anime continues from the previous .Hack// and the idea comes from the games and from SIGN also.

The humor is the best from the rest project.HAck//, and that makes the atmosphere of the anime really not that same with the rest of the project itself. Well, how Ouka is that funny, and how that Treasure-Hunter Mireille has her own unique way to make fun of Shugo... tha't funny. The truth that Shugo is the object of making fun is the key. I kinda think how the differences really do much, Shugo in reality just shown as a serious person, but... seeing Shugo in The World... well, I would think they are not the same person.

As you watch it, you will see, it's so enjoyable. In my view, I take episode 1 and 2 in 2 days, so boring I think... but after episode 8, I take the rest in ONE DAY! That makes me so addictive to watch it! Great anime!I would see the next of Project .Hack// if they'rea ny. But really CC Groups must continue this saga, because it's ssoooo ggreatt!!

    Isn't is 5 parts already?
I've played the games, and that was the reason why I watched Sign and Liminality as well. But I don't think it's that great an anime...

  5. phresh27 Feb 03, 2005

i still dont understand the order of the .hack// series. i thought .hack//sign was about some guy who couldn't log out of the world and could physically hurt another player. isnt it? and isnt .hack//twilight about shugo and rena? its so confusing :S

  6. sammo Retired Moderator Feb 03, 2005

.hack//sign is before the game, when the incidents of players going in to coma first occur.
.hack//twilight is when all the incident is over after the game, and people believe that the defect is over.

  7. Divinelight Feb 03, 2005

hmmm... anyone knows if .hack//twilight is the end of .hack//?
I don't think so because Morganna is not die, isn't that right?
