Plot Synopsis

A young girl named Kagome Higurashi who's on her way to school goes to the well in her family's property. She was about to get her cat from the area because no one was supposed to go there she found a demon in the well instead. Taking Kagome back in time to the Feudral era of Japan. Once she heads to a village the people proved that she's the reincarnation of the powerful priestess Kikyo. The villagers also believed that she had the powerful Shikon jewel inside her body that can grant you anything you want.

Before when Kikyo was alive, she sealed a dangerous half demon Inuyasha to a tree with one of her magical arrows. Kagome loses the Shikon jewel and awakes Inuyasha to help her recover it.

When they do get it back however, Kagome shatters it when it is taken again thus sending it far and wide. The series tells us how Inuyasha and Kagome search for it and meet new people along the way.

Story & Characters

InuYasha was the first anime I'd ever watched. I'd hear about it and knew many people who loved it, but I never saw it. I was at my friend's house when it came on. My first thought? Profanity in a cartoon? That was a new one to me (lol). After that, I caught it on Adult Swim so I started watching it.

I love the story. Very original and cool plot created by Rumiko Takahashi, and I love how it's action yet humorous. Never been disappointed in the show except for maybe a few filler episodes, such as Terror of the Ancient Noh Mask and The Soul Piper and the Mischevious Little Soul. But some fillers, like Farewell Days of My Youth and Gap Between the Ages, made me laugh so hard I had to watch them over and over again.

Many people have said the one downside to this show is the large number of episodes. I love the show but when it comes to buying them on DVD, I have to agree. The only place I can buy them is 30 miles away and they're sold for $70-100 each. Luckily they only come out once a year, but still. But all in all, awesome show!

Art

Each anime to me seems to have different types of graphics. Some are good, some are fair, and some are downright ugly. InuYasha falls in the good category. To me it looks like any other cartoon except it's made for an older audience and has a deeper storyline.

One thing that really bugs me about the graphics though is Totosai. He has huge eyeballs and tiny pupils, while his eyeballs practically cover his whole face. And then he has fangs and pointy ears like another demon. That is very weird if you ask me. And sometimes random characters (like the wrong sacrifice in Lake of the Evil Water God) have weird faces too, like solid black eyes and no eyeballs or anything. But that's not that big of an issue. Only with Totosai since he's one of the main characters.

I love the graphics in this show and give it two thumbs up!

Sound

Amazing soundtrack, I downloaded the whole thing and listen to it regularly. Effect sounds are good as well, they really put you right into the battle or whatever is going on. The sounds are strong in the aspect of how InuYasha yells, "Wind Scar!" as the Tetsusaiga creates a loud noise to work that power. And the noise of him hitting the ground when Kagome tells him to sit is priceless.

Kagura's wind effects are also very high in detail and quality. You can actually hear and feel it turning when she uses her Dance of the Dragon spell, and the episode where Koga is trapped inside that tornado with spinning skulls is good because you can hear the skulls actually hitting at his flesh.

Battle scenes and just regular moving scenes are good as well. It's great how they made the little effects so good. The little effects that you might not even notice, such as rain and people walking or running, and Kagome's bike.

And let's not forget the noises that Myoga makes as he hops around. Funny noise but you wouldn't think he'd even make a noise considering his size. So you can tell they put a lot of thought into it.

Not only that, but the tiny details of preparing for battle like applying an arrow to a bow, the giant boomerang Sango uses, and Miroku's staff. Not to mention the Wind Tunnel, how you can hear it as well as Kagura's wind.

Presentation

Humor and action are always neck and neck in this show, and some things are very unexpected. This is good to keep you on the edge of your seat and continue watching.

But humor and action aren't the only things in this show that make it good. Deep emotion is expressed as well, what with InuYasha and Kikyo's love affair from 50 years ago. And how Kagome constantly battles her own emotions for InuYasha and how she feels with Kikyo nagging her brain. And every once in a while they'll come across someone like the guy from The Toad Who Would Be Prince who is in love with someone else that they half to help. A similar situation ties in with the Naginata of Kenkon story.

All in all, InuYasha is my favorite anime and the only one I never miss. I have all 4 movies on DVD and the 4 season box sets that are out and will get the rest. Only wish I had the collector's edition with the extra goodies of them (even though I did get Miroku's prayer beads with season 4)...lol

I strongly oppose to this review! Inuyahsa IS a good anime, that i agree with you. But giving it a rating of 9.8 is stretching it too much. Inuyasha's ending is what pull the anime down, not the lengthy episodes. If we have to compare the length of episodes, think about Naruto, Bleach and the 300+ episode One piece.

No offense meant, but i think you may need to watch a few more animes to write reviews. Reviews should be written in a fair and just way, but not in a biased way. I may follow up a review of Inuyasha to show my feelings about Inuyasha

Ouch 9.8 for this?! Only Epics deserve 9.8 and this does not come close

I have watched Inuyasha, not the whole anime though, and I must agree with eternal82 and tarmade. There is no way for this anime to have such a score. I for one would definitely not give it a grade over 9, but I don't thing there is a reasonable guy out there that would agree with you. You are far too subjective and when u write a review you must try to be objective. I like to give high marks to my favorite animes but this is to much.

I really enjoy Inuyasha, but it's certainly not a masterpiece. A score of 9 or 10 should go to titles that really stand out, and Inuyasha is too repetitive and just too...common. There's not a whole lot separating it from other titles. If you've been a fan of anime over the years, you'll start to see a lot of similarities it shares with others in its genre.

The character designs are solid, yes, but the overall the art is only mediocre in both the anime and the manga. You can get as mad as you want for me saying that, but if you compare the artwork of Inuyasha to even shounen titles such as Bleach, there's a huge difference. The latter boasts very original, memorable character designs, some of which undergo significant changes as the series progresses (Ishida, Ichigo, Neriel, to name a few). Inuyasha is filled with a lot of flat, primary colors and very basic designs, the most elaborate of which are still rather simple by comparison. The main characters of both are actually the same age, and it's interesting to see how much more sophisticated Kubo Tite is in handling them.

The sound effects are very memorable. I think the dub is fairly good; none of the main characters suffer from unbearable voices. I especially love the music in this title, and Kaoru Wada is a good composer, making the music both moving and nostalgic.

I like the idea of Inuyasha's story, but it's not well-organized and it's very drawn-out. The love story is downright frustrating; love triangles can be very engaging, but Inuyasha spending how five plus seasons mooning over Kikyo and sending Kagome into bouts of depression is tiring, especially when taking into consideration that poor Kikyo is dead, and shouldn't even be a contender in any way.

The anime is also littered with filler, something you have to take into consideration, whether or not it's within the manga writer's canon or not. A 10 is still a very weighty score that I think you bestow too lightly. You can love an anime to death and still recognize its weaknesses. You need to be more objective when reviewing a title, and yes, it's not fun to point out your favorite series' shortcomings, but no one is going to respect your reviews if you're incapable of doing that.

Drown Takahashi and this anime with her.

Inu-Yasha never comes close to even worthy for... what? 9.8?

If I were you, I would have given it a 2.5 rating. All the action becomes repetitive - Inu-Yasha always on the hunt for Naraku, while Naraku sends out minions to destroy Inu-Yasha, Inu-Yasha destroys minions... RINSE, RAPE, REPEAT.

agree with beyondmeasure
for me it would be a 5 ^^

I think it's pretty good and the review is good, too. Inuyasha is one of many favorite animes of mine ;)
9.8 is okay I think, maybe a little bit too high okay.. I had a little bit problems reading, because im german and I am learning english at school. So my english is not the best ;)
Go on! ^^

I totally agree with you that this is an excellent anime! And the downside of it is also the large number of episodes. I think if they keep the story more compact, it will make it better. But i dont like the ending.

Can't agree with you more. Same old Naruka-sent-a-minion-getting-killed-by-IY crap over a million times. I gave it 3~4 only for how Sunrise saved this junk miraculously.

inuyasha was one of the worst anime that I think I ever saw, I mean the artwork was good and sesshie was so cute but for the most part it was so boring, I mean not as boring as some of the other longer running animes but it was pretty rough...less action then let's say dbz, not comparing the artwork between dbz and inuyasha just they had about the same amout of plot going for them

I quite enjoyed Inuyasha - the characters were likable, the story was interesting and seemed to have potential. However - by about episode 40...

It's not a bad review aRdNeK for your first, but you need to be careful of not to fall into the trap of writing a biased review. I mean it's great that you loved it and you want the world to discover a series you adore so much - but here at MT what people are looking for in a review is more than just what is at face value. The best way to get someone to watch the series is recognizing what elements will appeal to certain audiences and emphasizing those in your review. Even better is explaining what didn't work in the show - it shows you've analyzed it from both sides and really know what you're talking about ;)

That way you'll have interested parties being informed and people not so keen on the subject not telling you so X-P.

Gathering from your watchlist you're just new to the world of anime - so it's understandable why you love Inuyasha so much: trust me if you loved that show you're in for a wonderful surprise of what anime has to offer. But that doesn't mean you won't stop loving Inuyasha - I mean hey, Sailor Moon was my first anime and if I were to watch it now for the first time I probably couldn't stand 2 minutes of it, but being a first, it's a fav and shall always remain so ;)

A Reviewer's Guide to Minitokyo Reviews

Everyone pretty much summed up the overly high rating. I just needed to add that it really isn't the number of episodes that's bad. If the storyline didn't drag so much or span so many episodes for one fight, the number of episodes would have been fine. Great, in fact, if they had actually added something substantive to the storyline. But it got to be like pulling teeth. Plus, the ending was bad. I expected it, but it was annoying, anyway. At most I'd give it a 6.

But it's good that you really enjoyed it and I'm sure you'll enjoy many more.

I loved Ranma 1/2.

I hate this.

Agreed, except for the rating. Should be rock-bottom, at least.

Couldn't agree more.

I feel like you've cheated us with this review. Not only did you fail to tell anyone the basic plot, other than your undying love and devotion for it, but all you did was rant on about prices, releases, and how much you adore it. You gave the animation, series (as a whole), and presentation way, WAY too much credit. The only thing that deserves an 8 + is the soundtrack, which, overall, is amazing.

However, this anime is nothing special, and is downright repetetive and annoying sometimes. And I fail to see how the fact you own four or something box sets is relevant.

A very sloppy review and should be revised. Think about the series a bit harder as well.

And, please, remove all the little "lol"'s. They're distracting.
