Plot Synopsis

Mana Walker cursed his 15 year old son Allen Walker. As he tried to resurrect him he slashed Allen's eye, and his deformed arm turned into a claw like weapon that can be used against the akuma. After turning on his father Allen Walker becomes an exorcist. Not out of guilt, but as his purpose in life; to exterminate the beings known as akuma & the akuma maker, the Millenium Earl.

Based on a synopsis by cloudp23.

Story & Characters

The plot revolves around Allen Walker, a 15 years old exorcist, in the midst of 19th century Europe. Allen is adopted by Mana Walker after he is being abandoned by his parents. But for an unknown reason, Mana is dead. And Allen, mourning his death, accepting The Millennium Earl's offers to revive Mana. But The Millennium Earl's not reviving Mana, he's turning Mana into Akuma (demons). And Mana cursed Allen for turning him into an akuma.

But then, innocence that lived in Allen's left hand (that have the power to exterminate akuma) destroy Mana's soul. After the awakening of the innocence, Allen is taken by Cross Marian, a priest from the Dark Religious Organization and he's allowing Allen to be an exorcist.

Allen then become a member of the Dark Religious Organization, which contains exorcists, connected with Vatican. The mission of the Dark Religious Organization is to stop The Millennium Earl. The Millennium Earl is trying to cleanse the world by destroying all the human in it in the manner of Noah's great flood.

The exorcists are special people gifted with compatibility with the Innocence, divine substance created in the ages past to combat the Earl's minions, the Akumas. Once an Innocence finds its compatible person, it will evolve to become a weapon to fight the Akumas. There are 2 types of them (I think) : Parasitic type (like Allen, the Innocence is within the person's body) and I'm not sure the other type, but the innocence is not within the person body, the innocence have it's own shape (like Kanda's : Sword, Lavi's : Hammer and etc.)

As the story goes, Allen Walker is introduced with more Exorcist characters, among them are Kanda Yuu, Linalee Li and Lavi. Another characters Komui Li (the church's science department supervisor and older brother of Linalee Li), Bookman, and Cross Marian (and his relationship with the Earl and the Dark Religious Organization).

More villains also appear along the way. There are higher level akumas, with greater power, skill and wit, and the Noah Family. The Noah Family are people that have 'Noah' within them, and they have many types of power. The Noah Family are on The Earl's side, helping him to cleanse the world.

-- Note: Well, the story reminds me about Full Metal Alchemist actually.. It looks similar :3 And sorry about my sucks grammar btw :3

Art

The art is great in my opinion. In manga, the first 3 volumes\' art are not as good as now, on the colored page, the character's face are too pale and too yellow :3 You can found the gothic and dark style of art in this manga. The picture is well-drawn, and its clean.

On the anime, surprisingly, have not much differences with the manga style. Just, of course, the coloring techniques are different, it have an 'anime' coloring types.

Sound

Opening Theme:
The opening songs are just too right! They used a rock music as the opening sound, and it match the story, and the anime's atmosphere very much.

Ending Theme:
Well I should said that the Ending songs are not really match the story. They are mistakes. Maybe it's because they have a slow-beat song in the ending, and it's not match the anime's concept.

Background Sound:
If you have seen many anime before, I bet you wont seeing much differences between DGM's ost and the other. The background sound is okay, supporting the scene's atmosphere. But from the whole DGM OST album, I love to hear Lala's Lullaby (episode 4). ;3

Presentation

The anime is not really good in my opinion, they give so much fillers in the anime, and that's ruined the whole story. But the manga, is just great, and it's very unique. The manga doesnt have as much fillers as the anime does, and that's a plus (well, they just have 1/2 fillers i think, I dont remember..)

I recommend to reading the manga, rather than watching the anime. I myself enjoying reading the manga much, I always waiting for the next chapter release :3

You know i kinda like this anime, but it totally have to agree with you with your reasons on giving it a 7. THe mnga is definitly better than the anime, which seems kinda dull after you watch around 20 eps. an a filler ever 2-3 episodes lol. If they just got to the point and went straight through the storyline and try not to bullshit i think this wouldve been a better anime as well.

Great review! It's very clear..

you explained d.gray-man so well
i even learned new things about it :) thank you

First of all: You don't even know what you are talking about.

I mean, talking about fillers in a manga is just plain stupid and proves that you got no knowledge at all. Let me lecture you a bit: Fillers are only used in animès, cause they need the extra time, so the manga can go ahead ! An animé catches up to its manga series too fast, that's why there are filler episodes. Why should a manga need fillers ? That's bullsh*t....

I hope you know now why your review totally failed...

i think it was an ok review but there arent fillers in manga right? arent they extras? idk but i liked the anime the fillers kinda sucked but they went along well. not like naruto fillers sigh sigh -.-' but i LOVE the manga XD its awsome! <3 Episode 95's out !
