Plot Synopsis

No plot synopsis or other information available for Hana Yori Dango

Story & Characters

This is about Hana Yori Dango the Manga.

A love story that involved so many plot twists and conflicts, it really makes you guessing about the ending. In the beginning Makino Tsukushi is a young, up-beat 17 year old girl starting her years at the famous rich high school. However, for her to be staying up for her friend at the high school lands her as the enemy of the powerful F4, who are the "leaders" of the school. The F4 are those who bully anyone who gets in their way and often times forces people out of the school. Even though Makino wouldn't leave the school just because of the bullying, she developed feelings for one of the members of the F4!

Even though that is the basic plot line, it's loses that plot line and changes completely into a different story. You'll be wondering how did the plot changed into a completely different love story than you were expecting! However further in the story, it almost loses the love story and changes into a drama, and this is a slow change.

As many people know, there is an anime and a live action adaption to this manga. However, both the anime and live action stop short of the full series of the manga. The manga goes into the full year of Makino’s high school life, that is the biggest difference with the time length of the series.

Art

The art is something you know is shojo as it's is a girlish manga. The art is very close to the anime, but features a more "lively" look to the series. The art seem much more fresh than the anime counter part. Features smoother looks and better backgrounds than the anime.

The many, and I do mean MANY different clothes that each character wear is amazing, as they have all different types of looks and styles to them.

As for how the people are, you'll see a change with them as the story goes on. They appear to be more mature in the later novels than the beginning. This is an enjoyable factor to notice as the creator did not have the character stay in once form. You'll actually see the characters "grow up" with time.

Sound

Here I will talk about the smooth flow of the series.

Through out the series, you get to meet a various different type of cast, and they seem to appear through the series, so they will never "disappear". This is something refreshing, as the old characters will be bought back from the early chapters of the series.

In the manga, just when you think it'll finally end with a happy ending, something else needs to happen to drag out the series longer than it needs to. You'll wonder how this series can go into a 36 volume long manga.

Presentation

The drama felt in the manga is emotional and true to its words. The reactions of characters is real, to the type of people featured. The happiness, and feelings of love, emptiness are all felt in the series in one form or another. However this is shown better than the anime and the live action counter parts.

This manga is something of a "slice of life" as anime/manga fans would say. It gives you a question to think about as you read about the life of a poor girl trying to be in a rich world. If it worth it to live in such a world when you're loved for money, but not who you are?

(Note: I will spoil a slight bit, so please skip this paragraph if you do not wish to know) The meaning of the manga is love. Love comes in a various of different forms, but love doesn’t just mean that it’s true love, but it could be just pure friendship. As Makino will discover, her heart won’t be tied to a single person, but love is something that is that is all around and will never fade so easily.

For this being such a long series (36 volumes) the many different twists will keep you hooked on the series even though you’ll want it to stop after the many changes, you’ll want to know how it ends. You yourself will discover something as you read the meanings of the words that characters, and discover something you never though you knew. The love that Makino will discover and the true emotions of the characters you’ll meet.

Quote by sammothe manga was cute, and it had lots of hilarios part...too much yaoi implications though >_>;;

yaoi? o___O
better stay out from it then XD
not that the story is bad or all, (i know there is a real-life movie to HYD, called Meteor garden), but too many bishonens everywhere in the show so I gave up in the middle of watching =P

Yaoi? I never even found any yoai in it...I mean Akira and Soujirou's joking about Makino and Tsukasa was all that I saw. O.o and that is just joking. Ah well.

I really love the series though... one of my favorites.

Yaoi? O_O did they have yaoi connotations in the manga? XD I gotta go read it then XD but the anime and live drama definitely didn't have any. I watched Meteor Garden first and totally fell in love with the characters....you can say I was obsessed...lol so I decided to watch the anime to see how similar it is to the drama. Most of it is quite similar, although the drama left out some important scenes (perhaps due to lack of money?) and the endings are completely different! that was a total shock, but they were both good I suppose...I actually liked the drama version a bit better ^^;;
Overall the story was quite well done, although Tsukushi's character is a bit confused at times, they portray her as a very strong character that loves to help those being bullied. However, she is also very gullible and stupid at times...this difference is in my opinion not suitable to be put together like that...but apart from that, most of the anime/drama was done quite well.
I haven't read the manga, some tell me it's better than the anime, so I gotta go check that out~ ^^

i have not seen the anime nor have i read the manga, but i fell in love with the live action version. i really enjoyed the series. i cried and laughed with this one. a bit slow at times and i was ocassionally annoyed with tsukushi's indecisiveness.

The manga is the ultimate mirror image of the male harem story line. The main female character Tsukushi meets many interesting and powerful guys who are irresistible drawn to her uniquely forceful and charismatic character. Also there is the enormously powerful and constantly dominant F4 who add emotion and a richness to the story of Tsukushi's turbulent high school life.

oomg, i absolutely love the manga so much! But i only read the first series. It ends off with Tsukasa going to NY, and i cant find the second series of HYD the manga. There has Got to be a continuation to it. The new Japanese drama of HYD is making a second season, so it does continue. I really cant find season 2 of the manga anywhere. PLEASE PLEASE HELP! does anyone know where i can dl season 2 of HYD?
