Plot Synopsis

Jun Sakurada is not an average boy of his age. Due to some event of the past, Jun has spent most of his recent life in his room, unable to properly socialise. One day, he comes across a doll. This doll, however, is no ordinary doll. It's the 5th Rozen Maiden Doll Shinku, and it comes into life when Jun gives it a couple of winds.

Shinku 'enslaves' Jun into becoming her "medium". Jun and Shinku soon come across Suigintou, another Rozen Maiden Doll who is determined to defeat Shinku in the "Alice Game" to become the ultimate "Alice". Shinku must fight through the obstacles coming against her and help Jun break out of his unstable life.

Story & Characters

Sakurada Jun is a second grader of junior high who wont go to school anymore. He spends loads of time at the internet purchasing weird items. One day, he receives a doll he didnt ask for. Her name is Shinku, and she looks extremely real. When Jun makes Shinku work, she shows that she's not a common doll. This is the beginning of this story, that's really amusing and fun, with plenty of new characters and great stuff happening. Shinku is a sort of "magic" doll, and with her powers and Jun's help the anime goes. I strongly recommend it. What first made me want to see it was the design of the characters, but as the story goes everything seems to be getting better. Its a great story, and in almost every episode we have a new character. This anime also makes you think about your life, like when they go onto someone's world. Let me make it clearer: we all have our own world inside our hearts, and it reflects us. Its really cool that such a thing makes you think about yourself. You can also identify yourself in some things that the characters do. As i said before, i strongly recommend it... You'll have a great time watching Rozen Maiden!

Art

The art in Rozen Maiden is pretty nice, they make everything look really really cute, even the evil ones. The Design was made by Ishii Kumi, and he surely did a great job. All the characters seem to be very real when you get into it, and the dolls are so cute that sometimes you just want them to be real. He also made it look a little more real, unlike some other animes like Lodoss, for example, where all the characters are more "special" than common people. Kumi designed real people. The best parts of his art are the dolls with all those fancy dresses and the hair. Especially girls will instantly fall in love with it.

Sound

Oh, the music and the sounds in Rozen Maiden are really fine. The dubbing guys did a very great job with every single character, and the their voices perfectly match to what they are, their personality and their looks, and they also get a feeling into it, like they were feeling the same thing the character was... This anime’s opening theme is as cute as the whole thing, really positive and with beautiful lyrics, as the ending theme one, which is absolutely great too. All this songs are the kind that you want to know by heart, and the lyrics aren’t that hard for those who don’t speak a word in Japanese. The background music also matches everything perfectly, and gets you into the mood of the thing, even in the most trivial situations. This is the kind of anime soundtrack that any kind of anime-fan would love: matches the story, the mood, and the singer’s voice is not annoying at all, something common in some anime soundtracks. Rozen Maiden has the kind of soundtrack that will stay in your head, and is something to be heard anytime when you want to get in a better mood. I definitely like it a lot!

Presentation

Well, it was based in a manga, and for those who read it already, the manga would look better, but for the ones who didn't know it will look just fine. There are a lot of really funny things happening all the time, and it is really amusing to watch, makes you feel so anxious for the next one! Some episodes are funnier than others, but this is what makes the harmony in this anime. It is not exactly really an original or genius idea, but it certainly works fine if you want to have fun! The whole presentation works great to get you onto the thing, and gives you a clue of what’s coming next, specially in the beginning, which is really fundamental to get the spectator of the show to want to keep watching it and wait for the next episodes. As you first see the characters and everything’s looks, you’ll get interested in finding out what is that all about, and this is fundamental too, because everybody is really selective about things to watch these days. Personally, the presentation was what moved me to want to see the whole anime, and learn to love it!
