Story & Characters
I would give it an 11 if I could! This has to be one of the best anime shows I've ever seen. I was so tensed, thinking that this was going to be another wonderful anime with a mediocre ending that I actually cried after the scene after the final credits (yeah, trust me and don't get up when the credits begin to roll in the last chapter). Because it was so good! This might be not your kind of stuff if you don't like mecha, or if you are a rabid fan that compares anything mecha with Evangelion. Trust me again, this is everything Eva should have been. And the very top of my list!
Characters. In them lies the true beauty of RahXephon. Kamina Ayato is one of the best portrayed mecha piloting teenagers I've ever seen. Forget about over angsting and hentai behavior. This is a normal guy in extraordinary circumstances, and a great chara at that. The other highlight of the show is Shitow Haruka. She is, in one word, lovely. Emotional, but not overly so, she's the lady I want to be when I grow up! Not to mention the rest of the cast, equally well portrayed, so that they feel like close friends.
At this point, some people might be scared at the plot thickness. It's true. There's a plot (thank God) and it's rather heavy, so if you don't want to commit all your attention here, better stay away from this title. You'd be missing one of the best anime series ever. And no, I'm not gonna give you spoilers. That'd be a crying shame.

Art
Superb, specially for a TV series. Visually stunning, with a quality that goes beyond originality of mecha design and well done action scenes. But believe me, this series is not about the art, even if there's eyecandy for all. And no fanservice. It doesn't need it. Everything is in the right place. If there should be a blazing sky, it's there. And if there should be a common country background, it's there too.
If you are willing to forget Evangelion (and I have to admit, I so wanted to), you'd barely notice the rather subtle similarities in mecha design. Only in Rah itself. You won't find those similarities anywhere else. Other than that, you'd see original stuff here. As well as awesome animation, great chara design and detailed backgrounds.

Sound
Well, this is an anime that deals a whole lot with music. And very successfully, you can write that down. So much the score has an stellar role. Yoko Kanno strikes again!
As with the rest, the music seems to appear always in the right place. Grand scores for very tense moments blend with more fast, upbeat sound when the action requires it. You just can't help but notice the music, since is not one you can ignore so easily. To say that certain mechas are named after certain music related items should be more than enough to understand how important and relevant is the score in this anime.
The voice acting is high up the standard set by japanese industry. Saying
anything else would be redundant. But I think Aya Hisakawa deserves a special
mention. Her performance as Haruka must be one of the best of her (successful)
career. Another special mention for Mayaa Sakamoto, who seems to turn every song
she vocalizes into a golden hit. I know for sure that "Hemisphere",
RahXephon's opening, has been on my favorite playlist for months.

Presentation
No, there's nothing simple in RahXephon. Nothing is clear or straighforward, except the fact that there's more than the eye meets. You've got to pay attention, or you'll miss insignificant details that migh give you the keys to the greater misteries. I have to admit, I love the kind of anime that makes you think, that keeps you alert. If this is your dish, then go ahead. You won't regret it. Nothing I'd say can actually describe the experience per se.
I watched this show in a few hours. Just couldn't get up my chair. After I was done (and left with a very satisfied smile) I let it rest for a couple of days and went all over it again. And I liked it even more, if possible. If that alone is not enough to speak for RahXephon, then I don't know what else could.

not bad review but your score is too high, nothing should ever get perfect note, you should know that :/
awsome thanks for the review sorry it took me so long to reply
On that note, the anime shouldn't be rated as highly as you make it. If an anime isn't easily picked up, regardless of how late into it someone watches it, it shouldn't be a 10 if you're left absolutely clueless because you didn't watch the first 10 episodes. And we all know that there's lots of animes that we've fallen in love with that didn't require paying attention to every little detail.
iarly, that you really like a particular anime series does not warrant you giving it scores of ten across the board. Scores of ten more or less designate the pinnacle of human achievement. Note that the letter grades are extremely misleading and that when rating anime on a scale of one through ten, scores of five and six are average, and really good anime could still get scores between seven and nine.
The trick to writing a good review can be summed up in one simple phrase: show, don't tell. If you are going to give an anime a particularly good or particularly poor review, you cannot simply take the easy way out, but you have to absolutely justify your rating by, for example, describing why the art is superb and not just saying that it is.
In the end, I have to say that your prose and style are excellent, but I would still be hesitant to call this a good review because in places it lacks the requisite objectivity and critical introspection. Remember that reviews satisfy two purposes for your audience. For novices to a series, it gives them an idea of whether a series is worth looking into. For those who have experience with the series, it gives them a starting point for discussion and allows them to review their own opinions on the series. However with your review, the only thing that your review conclusively demonstrates is that you particularly enjoyed it.
Again, I have no problems with your writing style, but to write a truly good review, in the future, you should take more time to give a series greater scrutiny and a more accurate score assignment. I have full confidence that you will be able to craft such reviews with just a little more time and thought.
i already started to download the episodes and i saw the being..and the moment it started from finish to ending..i really wanted to see the other episode on what was going to happen next!it keep me up on my seat wanting to know all those questions and who was the good and bad guy!
i totally agree with iarly, i am a HUGE fan of rahxephon and i tink it deserves a full score... everything is juz so perfect and complete..
it's not a bad anime i liked it........\=)
well, its a good anime, but I do not think it should have deserved a full score... I would give it a 7....i found it a bit boring... but thanks for the review anyways^^
Hmmmm, no anime could be so perfect as this.. and if it is as perfect as this, it should have scrapped away all the anime awards possible
Anyway, the review is nice, but I think your rating is toooooo high
and most of your description doesnt really say anything bout the art itself,
you only say it is nice, but you should state why you think it is nice and such,
and if you want to compare it with other anime, you should say at which part it
is more superb, trying to explain in details the superb-ness of it
thanks for the review (though am still confused what RahxepHon is all about
other than the presence of mecha there after reading this
)
And I think you should give some teaser on the story part, cos now you are only confusing me at what this anime is all about
And presentation, though may be filled with your personal experience, should contain something more about the anime itself rather than your personal experience watching it... and your review should have a balance overall view
I think your style of writing and everything else is there, you need to focus more on what to write though
Well, the story is not that perfect. You said indirectly that it differs from Eva but it is just a minor remake of Eva. RahX has some symbolism but the symbolism is quite stupid and empty because the creators wanted to copy Anno's style and didn't manage to.
going from shinsengumis statement
i do not believe that rahxephon is the pinnacle of human creation
good as it is
Your review of RahXephon is exactly the way I would have done my review. I just love the characters and their relationships, and the music, well lets just say I listen to a lot of it all most every day. Have you read the manga and the graphic novels, oh and have you seen the RahXephon Movie? Any ways i just love the point of view you seem to have about this series .
yerh the score it a bit high for rahxephen, 10 is just too high......
it is so god,big and beitful
Yeah, because nothing deserves a perfect score. (How insulting.)
Anyway, I've watched RahXephon three times over and each time I like it more than the last. It's truly a gorgeous anime. And yes, while there are a few iffies, I respectfully disagree with those of you who think rating something with a perfect score is too high. The reviewer put what they thought was appropriate. I (and some others commenting) happen to agree. This anime gets my full count, too.
i think that the score is too high too. I'm not saying that you can't give a perfect score, but it's just that, the review doesn't have enough to support the fact.
I agree with that. It can be great anime but in few weeks your enthusiam will be gone.
Expecially if you watch some other anime in that time. Month for now it will still good anime
but you give it grade 11. I don't mean to offend you so don't get me wrong.
I like it but to give it a 11 is a little to high. the problem is that the animation is a little to old styled. That is that it does not look as good as it should.
Just as a quick heads-up, the assigned scores have been adjusted somewhat based on the text of the review to reduce score inflation. Specifically, the Art, Sound, and Presentation scores were each reduced by one to 9, 9, and 9, respectively.
great anime
Well, I for one love this anime through and through. I think the story and the characters more importantly are well done and superb. Maybe 10 is a high score, but when you're excited about something you just can't help but give it that score. I enjoyed every bit of this anime and love it with repeat viewings. The artwork is amazing and never seems to lag in the middle episodes, consistency through out the whole show.
Anyway, I agree that it was great
!
