Plot Synopsis

Ten year old Negi is a wizard who wants to become a Magister Magi. The task of teaching him is given to 31 students at an all girl school. At school he gains new friends and learns new things, whether he wants to or not. Negi endures tiresome training for both his wizarding skills and his physical strength. He is given difficult tasks that forces him against a dragon, other wizards, mad-scientists and an evil vampire... and they just keep getting more tougher!

Story & Characters

Negi is a young wizard who just graduated from (duh) Wizard School, but like all graduates, he must take a final test to show that he is ready to become a Magister. But what exactly is his task..? To become a teacher in Japan.!! What? a 10-year-old... a TEACHER..? yes; everyone was appalled, but young Negi is determined to do it, and to become a fully-fledged magister, and to meet his father, the famed but dead (?) 1000-master. but! does he have what it takes to become a Magister, or is he going to buckle under the pressure of being a young teacher, in a GIRLS' school??

Mahou Sensei Negima! is also known as Magister Negi Magi in other places. Ken Akamatsu' trademark of numerous girls+ a single boy storyline is evident throughout the whole story; Negi being the single boy and his class of girls being the whole group of girls. However, unlike the famed fanservice manga+anime Love Hina, Negi is a child-prodigy. Ken Akamatsu still has his (ahem) fanservice touch and you can catch teeny tiny glimpes in the book where you say "ehhh~?? didnt this happen in Love Hina..?"

Will Negi ever become the Magister he wants to become to meet his father, or will be succumb to the girls..??? Find out..!!

Art

Ken Akamatsu's art syle remains the same throughout the book. However, is one flips through Book 1 and Book say, for example 7, s(he) realises that Ken Akamatsu has changed the way he does his eyes, and that Negi's eyebrows are lesss bushier than before. The anime's artwork, however, is a big disappointment. the style is definitely alot different compared to Akamatsu's, and looks watered down and simplified. Furthermore, the anime's colours (eg fuka and fumika's hair in the manga is brown, yet it is pink in the anime) are grossly different than before. but this shouldnt stop a true-blue Ken Akamatsu fan from watching it, right?

Sound

The Seiyuus (voice actors and actresses) did this good. Negi sounds like the pure, innocent kid he should be and the girls sound just like what they look. For example, Asuna soulds like the toughie she should be and Kotoko sounds like the real blur-block she is.

cute little noises (like when sweat drops and stuff like that) boost the anime even more. Girls' screams are evidently heard throughout the anime (especially in the bathroom scenes) but thankfully, they are not blood-curdling, but adds to the humor even more.

Presentation

The anime can be considered to be in the cutesy and funny genre, with a side-dish of fanservice. The humor comes from the fanservice (the infamous "oops..!! sorrrrrrry~!!!!! I'm came in by accident..!! I SWEAR!!!!!!!!" sort of thing) and the different reactions the girls have to our little star, Negi. for example, Asuna (Negi's big-sis aka nanny aka student) hates him to the core because he is a wet-behind-the-ears kid, but the Chairman, Ayase, thinks otherwise (that pedophile..!). it's definitely a joy to watch if you dont mind the fanservice and hentai-ness. The opening song is cheery and fun to watch and the ending song makes a good finishing touch to each and every single episode.

in conclusion, Mahou Sensei Negima! is one of those stories with a storyline but lots of filler episodes, making it very light-hearted. it is made for those above 12 (fanserviceness) and for those who want to brighten their day up, therefore, it's not meant for serious people or people who despise hentei and fanservice to the very core.

This doesn't sound to good, it seems like the author just recycles his stories and adds different characters. The same thing pretty much happens in I My Me, Strawberry Eggs! although the art isnt' as bad as you described it here.
Besides, what kind of a sick person sends out a little boy to teach girls?! Child prodigy or not, this sounds like trouble..maybe for both of them.

I havent read/watched Love Hina (and probally never will) but I read Negima. The artwork does seem the same, the the story line too. Both mangas/anime are for perverted viewers XD I myself dont love Negima, since it involves sex appeal and stuff like that.

yeah. i basically read it for the story line... ^_^;;;; not the sex appeal, mind you. but I still think the anime version looks alot alot watered down

to daos: yeah. it's kinda odd and stuff, but the storyline's ok. however, I think Ken Akamatsu should give up on fanservice. I heard of some manga artists who use fanservice just to attract more pple to read it. appalling, isnt it?

I have seen this anime and it is very funny sometimes. Is a good anime, with a lot of girls, but and the end of the season the story became very strange. Asuna dies in the serie!!!!!!!!!.

i like very much
mahou sensei negima is very good
(sorry........i don't speak english XD)

awww I'd definitely have given art more than 5...in fact, I quite like this artist's work (Love Hina also made by the same artist).
I agree that it's in the comedy/cute genre with a bit of fanservice...a fair bit of fanservice that makes it even more funny ^^;
I gotta say, the anime that has one guy as the main character and lots and lots of girls tend to lack a bit of seriousness and plot. So it's good to watch if you don't want to be in for too much of emotional stimulation.

haha ok.... TO 7miLeDog: you spoiler..! >o<p

Hey everyone, Negima is going to be completely remade when it is released for DVD! Its release date is set at possibly May or any time after in 2006. Now I'm just praying for a second season : }

completely remade? you mean it'll look better?

i agree, but i sort of disagree on the whole art thing tho
