Story & Characters
Flame of Recca is a fun, tournament-based Shounen anime, and follows a high
school student named Recca Hanabishi. Four hundred years ago, Recca was sent
into the future to fulfill his destiny - to stop his half brother Kurei. Now of
age, Recca learns the truth about his past and awakens the flame dragons that
lie dormant within his hand. Each episode becomes a match one of the characters
has to fight, & sometimes they win, sometimes not, but the anime does well
to portray the psychological struggle of each individual giving all opponents
reasons to be fighting as opposed to simply fighting because they are the evil
character. Unfortunately, even after 42 episodes, there's no real ending - as if
they ran out of money and couldn't close up those last few loop holes.
Regardless, if you like shounen fighting anime, this anime offers decent fights
and great characters. There's nothing ground breaking here, and certainly
there's not deep, complex plot, but it's a fun anime.
Overall, I rate this anime good.

Art
Each character is unique, as well as the baddies but they aren't all that
interesting. they each all have their own fighting move ( the visual is great
)but some move were copied from other anime. The art is rather bland, even for a
TV series.
As for the art goes, it simply cannot compared to the ones that Clamp had done,
for example the background art, the building and the setting isn't that
impressive or you can say it is not much that in detail, except for the
bishounens which are nicely drawn, even with the bad guys.( some bad guys are
cooler than the good guys ).Those who like bishounen anime should try out this
anime.

Sound
Great Music all around. Really catchy begining and ending tunes, done by a group
ive come to love in J-rock. The Oystars. The Medlies and other dramatic battles
music is pretty average, but the main themes are very cool indeed.(Nanka
Shiawase is the opening by the Oystars to give you some example.
the sound effects in the animation are good. ( when fighting ) and the
characters' voice also match their looks. ( cool dudes get cool voices, children
like character have children voice ,annoying females have annoying voices and
bulky person have lower voice ).
overall, the sound is good at best to say at least.

Presentation
The anime is well presented, although you will be a bit confused at the
beginning but everything is slowly revealed as the story progresses. There's lots
of humour in this anime because the good guys ( almost everyone are idiots ) .
They just cant make things right.( and yeah, i'm sure lots of people like the
main lead get beaten up when he said something wrong about his girlfriend or
getting fooled by others.) When it goes to the fighting part, it is fun to
watch and somehow exciting as you will find a lot of diffrent moves. ( exclude
the main lead ). when it comes to originality, this anime is lack of it. As i
said it before, some fighting moves are copied from other animes. This anime also
emphasizes friendship and teamwork which are good values and would be beneficial
if watched by younger viewers as it can instil those values in them.
The bottomline..........
pros: good humour, well presented, chock full of awesome martial arts, fighting,
and mystical powers objects
cons: lack of originality, stupid villians, dumb main lead

nice review. i think i'll try it out. thanks for the review.
I loved Flame of Recca during its days here in the Phillipines and your review lived up to what I would expect for Recca no Honoo. And you forgot something, Domon was such a pain of a teammate!!!
I've watched a few episodes of it and i quite like the anime.
thanks for this great review satan!!!!!!
I watched all of Flame of Recca a few weeks ago.. I agree with many of the positive aspects you've pointed out.
But I didn't really like it because of several reasons..
there were way too many characters and it had pretty bad character development in my opinion..
the art was not that great.. i think it changes over the series or something.. the first episode was just not easy on the eye for me but it got better/different over time.
also, the plot was SO rushed toward the end, with an ending that was hardly an ending.. at the end you could almost see the studio staff running around panicking and patching together their last episode.. haha
as you can see the ratng is not that highh.....^_^
haha yes i can see that. its just that i guess i would've made it lower. hm.
i believe flame of recca in the manga was alot better since the ending part wasnt that rushed. the way they did the ending was a huge turnoff for me i tink. none the less, good show luved it other then the ending.
Raiha is teh best lolz! j/k i just like this char alot
