Z827's Mobile Suit Gundam: Universal Century Tv Review

Mobile Suit Gundam: Universal Century

Rated: 8

This is a Review of Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam
Political corruption , a darker setting , impressive animations and well-built characters - what really kept this series from being perfect is how some of the characters behave at times. ( Kamille was badly affected by his parent's situation , and not his fellow crewmates? Seriously? )
Other than that , the series is well-executed and it had brought back old casts not as a manner of fan-service but to show the audience how they had fared after the One Year War and the struggles that Amuro was experiencing.
Ignoring the flaws which rarely bumps up in the series , this is one heck of a Gundam experience.

It's been said before that Kidou Senshi Gundam is the Star Wars of Japan, and I'm quite inclined to agree. Mobile Suit Gundam was the very blueprint for Real-Robot (Mecha) Anime at a time when Super Robots were all the rage. The Mobile Suits are war machines, the characters were brimming with genuine emotional conflict, and there was a sense of military politics behind the story. Another interesting change of pace was how we got to see the war from BOTH sides, rather than just have the enemy be a one-shot joke every episode (infact, don't be surprised if if you start to sympathise with the Federation AND Zeon forces). Each episode doesn't have a stereotypical happy ending, and there is a great balance between action and character development to be found.

Mobile Suit Gundam: Universal Century

The first half was rather slow but when the final battle looms, it causes excitement to no end. What will happen to Amuro and Char? What will happen to the world? Will everyone realized their mistakes and learn from it? So many questions, yet the answer is hardly there.

Overall, this OVA truly represents how the final duel between two bitter rivals should be fought. Amuro and Char not only clashed because of their ideals but also for their personal reasons.

Of course, there's a few extras for this DVD version. Official trailer, behind the scene and a tribute to Yoshiyuki Tomino.

Whether you're a UC nut or a newbie to the Gundam universe, you should...let me correct that one. YOU MUST watch this. Highly entertaining and extremely recommended.

As far as I know, this is one of the longest running franchises from the early anime history. Humor is interjected when necessary (why are there random naked scenes throughout Gundam? The world may never know....). The main attachment that is evident in this series is the story movement, the character development, and last but not least, the crazy GIANT ROBO ACTION!! The series will take a while to get into, but once you're in, I'm afraid you are bound to be hooked (if you are into the staple of Giant Robots or sci-fi). Most of the clichés of the time are grabbed from here and there, but are tastefully used (98% of the time). The only hard times for me to watch the Gundam series was in ZZ.
