JetKrazy's DearS Tv Review

All in all, DearS was a very enjoyable anime. I liked it a lot, and not because of the artwork. The story was hilarious, the characters were awesome, and the whole thing seemed like it might happen in real life (only might happen). I could watch DearS over and over again, but then I’d get tired of it.
The story was told well, but I think it could have been better. It was definitely interesting to watch the character relationships develop, and to see all of the DearS with their skimpy costumes on!
And so, with that, I end my review, leaving you this piece of advice: Beware the teacher.

This anime has pretty much everything that I like to see in a show...cute aliens in lingerie. Okay, just kidding... DearS has a very Happy Lesson feel to it, with most of the character design and animation looking very familiar. The story so far has been very interesting, and the characters are all very well voiced by a high quality seiyuu cast. The animation is very good, with the same Happy Lesson tendency for the male lead character to have over-exaggerated facial expressions.
Aside from the extreme Chobitsiness, this on the first episode of DearS it was very well done. The music was excellent, the animation smooth, and I really liked the character design. It was actually pretty hilarious, even though a couple of the scenarios were exactly like the ones in Chobits.

Now I know what people would first think when they read an issue of DearS, it's almost like Chobits . No, I wouldn't think the author meant to copy Chobits just to be popular or anything but it's like that with everything, they almost look and seem the same but they are different in many aspects. DearS is about an alien race that arrives on Earth and disperses among the populous while they try to learn the local customs. Chobits is about human-shaped computers that everyone seems to have and the relationship between them and humans. The two worlds are totally different as you can see. But yes, Chobits and DearS are similar in appearance, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't read it. Only the way it started is what seems to be the same to me.

Originality? BLEHHHH :op not original in the least. I'm surprised they came up with a different name for the robots/slaves/persocoms. It's too bad too, because the concept might work without being so totally a chobits rip-off. (see Story)
Humor? Laughed my furry little tail off. Quite easily the funniest series of the season. (that I saw, anyway) I particularly recall Ren's eyes overflowing with tears of joy as she sinks her teeth into the glory that is melon-pan (melon bread).
Enjoyablility? Oh yeah... practically my reason for living for 12 weeks. I'm definately gonna rewatch this one, and I can't say that about a lot of series, even those I love like Kenshin.

Frunty's DearS Tv Review

I enjoyed DearS throughout its short run, but when it was over nothing really stuck with me. The manga is still ongoing in Dengeki Comics Gao magazine if you want to check out more DearS action. Much like other shows that end before the manga (Mahoromatic, Hellsing), the show’s producers are left to come up with an ending that ends up being either forced or rushed. Things are left open for a second season, and there’s plenty of material still unanimated.
Although not particularly original, DearS was entertaining every week I sat down to catch an episode. Some things like Mitsuka-sensei’s antics worked well, and others like Takeya’s bratty sister didn’t.
