Story & Characters

Okay, the story is a tough one for me. Yes I know I am reviewing the anime so don't try to remind me. I thought the story was almost 100% following its manga couterpart as far as the concept went. Other than that there were points that confused me because it was really different from the manga. I can name several parts that were totally changed between the anime and manga. As far as the characters themselves went, they were exactly how I remembered them. I do have to give the anime credit it does stay accurate in how Akamatsu-san portrayed each character. You got the clumsy, always-getting-into-trouble Keitaro Urashima, then you have the sweet, but really angry Naru Narusegawa, then you run into the supporting characters like Motoko Aoyama or the wild Su Kaolla. The love story is very interesting. Its not one of those typical love stories that you see where man and woman fall in love immediately then happily ever after. This one is interesting in the fact that is about two people who never even really liked each other in the first place and how they somehow fell in love. There were hints of it in the beginning that they might actually have feelings for each other but I shrugged it off thinking it was typical pervert Keitaro. The love story was really well done and also stayed true to its manga counterpart, though there was some scenes they changed which I didn’t really like.

Art

The animation was pretty good. Some of the faces seemed weird at times but overall it was good. I didn't get a sense of some type of realism though which hurt this series. I thought the animation was just a tad above average. It could've been done a bit better but I can live with how it is. It does match the anime though so I have to give it that.

Sound

The music, man the music was the high point of this series. I thought the music was excellent. You have songs like "Winter Wish" and "Sakura Saku" hitting the series with a bang. These were great choices of genre and they were very catchy. After a month since watching the series, I still listen to the music non-stop. The japanese voice-overs were pretty good though I can't say the same about the dubbed version. If I were to choose I would pick the japanese version anyday. The dubbed version just didn't have the right voices. It seems has if they picked random people off teh streets and threw them into the sound stage for recording. I'm not saying the effort was poor on the voice actors/actresses parts but it was a poor choice on the voice themselves. The japanese version had much better voices and fit more to the characters that they were voicing for. Now for the organic sounds, well there is not much to say besides that they were great. Couldn't have done any better.

Presentation

Overall this series was pretty enjoyable. If I side-stepped the changes between the manga and the anime (face it its gonna have differences) then its very well done. I was easily engrossed into the plot and the action sequences. I still can't get enough of the type of kicks and punches Naru threw at Keitaro. It was funny to watch him survive all that without any broken bones but then a big ball rolls on top of him and he breaks a leg. Now that is humor. This series was full of humor, yet they managed not to over do it. None of the jokes got too old to me. In fact the more I got used to the jokes, the more fun I had, cause I was able to point out when Keitaro was gonna accidently catch Naru changing or something even before I knew it was going to happen. The concept was clearly put and I was able to follow most of the story without problems (if I expunge the manga from my mind). Those who liked the Love Hina manga, I suggest watching this even though of the differences and for those who haven't read the series or anything, I suggest watching the anime first cause you will get a tad disappointed if you watch the anime after reading the series.

You know this to me was one of the most dissapointing series ever. Naru was in no way sweet she was more of a "insert 5 letter word ending in -itch here". I found it rather funny in the early parts but it just seemed too redundant for me. But alas this does seem to be a popular series and your review reflects that. I find your 8 a fair score and your way of describing it fits it all the same.

Really good presentation...nice job!
Love Hina was one of the first manga series I've read so I expected perhaps a bit too much from anime...but I totally agree with your score - right on the mark! :)

no no no the score must 10+ it a super good manga series i see

Love Hina, much like Chobits, suffers from "Redundant episode syndrome", where a lot of unnecessary filler episodes are inserted with plots that didn't have anything to do with the original and carried none of the SPIRIT of the original.

When Love Hina followed the manga, at least partially, it was good. When the filler episodes came (like the one where Naru decided to become an idol right out of nowhere), it was bad.

And that... is my two cents.

yea bro, this the best

woot this is my fav anime! good review, but i wouldnt say it followed the manga that close..hmm but pretty much along the same lines

i liked a lot the serie, the musica i love the lullaby of saku saku, and all its for having a great time

I enjoyed the manga a whole lot better then the anime and the ending with the manga was a whole lot more satsifing then the anime were it just leaves you hanging and dosnt provide you with any closure

Well... i think that the art should be point higher, plot no less than 9 and presentation is 10 for sure, because this anime is VERY enjoyable... watched it no less than 3 times :)

I a gree with Tachima sorry but i enjoyed it there are alot of other good series but this one had some feeling on it. Ahhh sorry i dont mean to be boring well i like it give it a 9.9 :)

Silver so you know I reviewed the ANIME not the MANGA. If I reviewed the manga it would probably get a 9.5 out of 10. The Manga is definitely better.
