Plot Synopsis

No plot synopsis or other information available for Hana Yori Dango

Story & Characters

Makino Tsukushi is a poor young high student who manages to get into a rich snobby high school. Here a group of 4 boys who are more well known as F4. They rule the school and anyone who messes with them has the whole school turned against them. Often when that happens, people leave the school, but Tsukushi wants to stand her ground and goes against the F4. However, the only problem is that she manages to have feelings for one member of F4.

Above is the stated basic plot line, however as it may seem boring at first, it really isn't. Many plot twists occur and characters who are brought into the story add much more than just a extra.

With this being a drama and a shojo anime, many would think it would be one way, but it doesn't seem it. Things that occur in the anime doesn't seem to have just te way you want it. Nothing always happen the way you want, and that is what occurs here. It is quite nicely done with the "luck" factor here.

With the many interesting plot twists, this makes the 51 ep long anime seem very short. In every event, they go into full detail of background of almost all characters. Often finding out more than is needed to know, but that makes it's lighthearted and fun to watch. You'll find yourself with questions in the story, and wonder if you would do the same things that the characters do in this story. You'll ponder whether you would follow your happiness or your honor.

Art

There really isn't anything too special about the art here. Tsukushi is cutely drawn, but she seems to be the only defined. She goes through a slight change in the series, however all the characters do. As the character themselves, they are nothing special. However with the emotions in this series they are nicely drawn. You can see the anger and saddness with the character pose and facial expressions.

The background isn't wonderfully done, but it does enough to fit the mood of the story. Many poses are nicely and cutely done. There are mayne symbols in the background that gives more to the mood of the scene. You can easily see with the mood of shock or anger. You see all of the moods and during the thoughts of the characters, you see them in a room by themselves talking to themselves. It is nicely done like that.

The only key things that comes to me is that when the characters are facing a problem that they don't wish to face., they are seen in a room holding a door shut. At the same time, the door is trying to be opened. It gives a nice thought and image to the viewer.

Sound

Sound is what makes an anime, however when it gets played over and over again, it gets quite boring. At first the music goes quite well with the scenes, however it gets boring after it is played over and over again. Some pieces are nice to listen to, but some are old and dull to listen to.

Voice Acting (I've only seen the Japanese Version, not the English) is quite nice. At first I was annoyed with some voices, but it grows on you as the story goes. You find voices matches their personality in the anime.

I would give a 9 for voice acting, but the background music.....brings it down.

Presentation

There is a nice balance in this series, it's funny, depressing, and it's something different. It;s quite interesting and refreshing to watch an anime and see something not good happen in the series. And I mean, just when you think something good will happen, something horrible will happen and it's about reality. Luck is a factor in life, and it plays nicely here. It is added into the series as a event that could happen to anything.

For the series to be 51 ep long, it doesn't drag at all. A new interesting event happens in almost every ep and it pulls you into the series. You also can find a character you relate to the most as almost all types of characters are met in the series. You'll easily see the happiness and pain of each character in the story.

When I first began to watch it, it was something new and different as an anime. I began to love it as it grew style. It may see to drag for one minute, but it picks itself right up with a new twist. That is one loveable factor in this series. The fact is that it will not drag with the same plot for the whole series. It matures into a story that you could never quite get out of your head.

For this being an 96'-97' anime, it was quite interesting to watch for it being a bit older. Often I find myself hating the older anime as they are plots used over and over, however I didn't think that with this. It is a great anime that went down before any one had really noticed. With many factors that aren't widely used in anime, it is a nice refresher to those looking for a different type of love story or anime.

Heh, nice review. :D

I've never seen/read the actual Hana Yori Dango, but I did see the very wonderful Taiwan adaption of it called Meteor Garden. It's really good, so I am interested in the manga (not anime) Would you recommend the manga? Since this is the anime review right?

The anime is soooooooo much better than Meteor garden. You must watch the anime if you liked Meteor Garden.

I must agree with Akai! The anime version is sooooooooooooooooo (mine has more O's, akai! :) ) much better than them F4 freaks... gomen for my bad language! I just don't feel that the Meteor Garden adaptation was sincere.

Yes, I think the anime is better than the real life adaption, but I think it's interesting to see both things (it's funny to see the "real" characters from a manga ^_^). But above all, the manga is really the best. A lot of things happen there and not in the anime version (that makes only until the 18th volume), and the art becomes much better: the drawing in the beginning is quite good (old style), but in the end of the story is really nice, I love it! So if you hasn't read the manga, what are you waiting for? :)
