Air

Air tv,ova Review

When he was young, Yukito Kunisaki's mother told him of a winged girl in the sky. Yukito's family has been searching for this girl for generations. Finally, Yukito's journey takes him to a small seaside town where he meets Misuzu Kamio, a girl who is eager to make friends with Yukito. Yukito ends up staying with Misuzu and her mother, Haruka, while he searches for the girl in the sky. In the town, however, there are strange occurences, and as the days pass by, Misuzu starts to have strange dreams.
What is the truth behind Misuzu's dreams and her failing health? And how is everything connected to Yukito and his journey?

The manga adapted from the game is illustrated by Yukimaru Katsura.

Story & Playability

The way the series is unravelled is little bit strange.. but it made sense when everything was put into place with the entire story.. There is a big jump into the past that almost seems random.. but that is the setup for the movie coming this summer. In the last few episodes the perspective changes practically randomly.. and you are just left wondering.. uh.. wha??.. but the different perspectives is the thing that builds the background of the characters.. and you are able to understand the actions better.. so the last couple of episodes are like recaps..

*summer special*
Its a pretty nice addition between episodes 8-9 It doesn't add to the storyline, but it is a This is a filler episode.. and its a pretty good one at that... while it doesn't continue on from the ending of the series, its a pretty nice glimpse at the relationship between the "past" Yukito and Mizusu. The two episode are really just comedy episodes.

You get the feeling that the three people represented the present Mizusu, Yukito, and Mizusu's mom. Its interesting how they show slight characteristics of the present people, but are a little bit more childish.

*movie*
They take the same storyline and just change the way things happend. Its a lot different than the series, but the main events are kept and shown in a different way. and there is a lot more narration and hops between the past and present. The movie and series start and end at the same place. They also paralleled the past and present really well, so the people undergo the same yet different events.

There are only 3 main characters, the other people in the series are left out. While the personalities are the same, the way the person is is changed. Misuzu is a lot stronger in the series, while she still suffers from the same disease, but there is not a lot of time wasted on showing her suffer. The focus is entirely on Misuzu, her mom and Yukito. Thats good in a way, and yet not so good, but they wouldn't of been able to introduce everyone if they had more people...

Graphics

everything is really good, sharp and clear animation.. The characters are a lot better drawn than Kanon, with a very nice supportive background, as the sea shines with brilliance and the tree's wave in the wind.

*summer special*
Pretty much the same animation from the series, except that the surrounds is outside, so you get a lot more scenery shots. Everything just looks so sharp, the background is always really well done, everything looks very nice.

*movie*
The CG is really good, while its not used for action scenes, if there were any, the background is REALLY well done. I love how there is a strong contrast between the light and darkness, scenes are either sprinkled with bright sunlight, or shrouded by shadows. The ocean and sky look really beautiful. They also have a tendency to skip between CG, regular drawing, and then the frozen artbook style, its really cool, and nostalgic.

Sound

*series and summer special*
i have to pause a little and listen to the OP.. hehe.. its soo good.. the ED.. is pretty good.. The soundtrack is pretty good.. one or two fast paced songs.. that isn't used often in the series.. and a good couple slow remeniscent songs..

*movie*
They kept the same OP/ED, both which i really liked, and was glad they kept. The soundtrack is really good with an orchestrated version of the OP spread throughout the entire movie. There also is another song after the ED of the movie, so its pretty cool. The soundtrack is different from the series soundtrack.

Fun

The animation and music played a very critical part of this series, for the storyline was very complex, and they did a fantastic job. We are constantly bombarded with brilliant scenes as well as pleasant music to settle us into the interactions between the characters.

*summer special*
Since it was a comedy, it was pretty fun to watch, animation, music, and storyline were all pretty good.

This makes filler episodes seem good... All i need to say...

*movie*
Animation is a very high part of this movie, while paired with the uniqueness of the storyline itself AND how the movie complements the series VERY well. If you got AIR TV you MUST get the movie to be able to truly get a sense of the history repeating itself theme of the movie.

This was a great movie, i was planning on watching it in 2 parts.. but couldn't stop watching it. I was also eager to watch it after finishing AIR TV.. If it was a stand alone movie... people might get confused, but everythign is explained pretty well in the movie.

    Hehehehehe.
This use to happen, all the time.
I just wanted to say, I didn't like like most of you did.
The story is pointless in the end, and the movies offers nothing.
I hate the legends, myths, past and ascendency cliches.
The movie? You should better try the movie instead the anime.
