Parasite Eve game Review

Story & Playability

The tragedy begins at Christmast Eve 1997 at the Carniege Hall. Melissa, the performing actress had set all off the people on fire just by looking at them. You will play as Aya Brea, the NYPD officer who was the only survivor. She then takes on Melissa and came to acknowledge the existence of Mitochondria and the changes which occured in herself.
So, the chase begins... Aya then witnessed ordinary animals turning into total monsters. Melissa had totally lost herself and tranformed into another woman, who claims to be Eve. If you ask me, the tranformation was kinda scary... Her hands tured into HUMUNGOUS deadly claws....
After the unforgettable event,Aya soon realises that she is the only one who can actually stop Eve from wrecking havoc in New York. The citizens were all cleared out. During her investigation with Daniel, Aya came across a japanese scientist named Maede. Their further investigation leads them to Klamp(a MAD scientist). Aya learns more about her own special Mitochondria and Eve.
Racing with time, Aya and her friends must stop Eve's crazy plan of bearing a Mitochondria child to dominate the world....

In my opinion, the story's plot was interesting...How it all began, how the story unfolds, and of course the unsolved mysteries. It left me stuck to the game for hours and hours.

Graphics

Actually...the graphics were nice! Yeah, I enjoyed most of it. The FMVs were realistic, pretty much like FF8, but they're creepy though....(zzzt...i'm getting goosebumps). You will get to see A LOT OF slime and blood everywhere throughout the game. However, when you are not in a FMV, the charactes are pretty detailed and the backgrounds are realistic. After seeing the FMV when Melissa slowly turns into Eve, I swear you'll be begging for more.
Before you enter a battle, the whole scene turns grey and you can only see Aya standing, that really makes your heart stop...It fits in the games really well.
In Parasite Eve, magic will be pronounced as Parasite Energy, most of them are defensive spells which are just ordinary, not vry special graphics. The strongest offensive spell, Liberate, is the ticket. You really must enjoy seeing Aya turn into a winged demon and do a hell lot of damage to enemies. Well, I think that I like that part mainly because of the satisfaction of damaging the enemy so badly.....
Overall, it still deserves a 9.

Sound

As one of the 'older' generation of games, Parasite Eve does not have voice acting. But who cares? The music always manages to creep you at the exact timing.
When Aya opens a door, the sound of the door creaking just stirs up the tension. You'll be just sitting there, dreading what you will face at the other side of the door.....
The music when you are fighting just makes you anxious and in my opinion, is very suitable for the game.
Ok, the very last bit about the sounds. When you play this game, do NOT skip the Introduction, besides enjoying really fantastic graphics, listen to the theme song-Primal Eyes. The music really fits the opening and gives you spectacular moments.
The sound quality is excellent and you'll not get bored of it.

Fun

All in all, Parasite Eve is one of the best RPGs around when it was released. The battle system in this game is definitely unique and the one and only. I admit the gameplay is quite hard when you come to face the horrible Mitochondria bosses. But no pain no gain, you won't get to see the rest of the story if you don't defeat them.
This game could be considered as unique with it's battle systems and weapons/armour upgrade. Bonus points earned can be used to pump up whatever you like and it really is worth it. Tools are used to upgrade weapons as well.
After you finish the game for the 1st round, you can replay it in the EX mode with your high levels and weapons. I suggest you replay it in order to get the REAL ending.
Honestly, the game is a little bit dull because there are only a few main characters.

It has been quite some time since I last heard of the name Parasite Eve. So I was sort of wondering was this review about the game, movie or the novel......

Square's Parasite Eve is a sequal adaptation of the novel by the same title, and I still remember those days they used to call this game a cinematic RPG.

Just for your information, Mitochondria Eve is not a fiction, but rather a factual hypothesis which was laid out many years ago.

Omg! This is STILL My favorite game. I adore it, always have. My father had bought it completely by mistake. He wasn't the type to play FF stle games. But I took it and beat it like REALLY fast...then replayed it over and over again because I love it.

Not only that but the storyline alone was enough to get me all addicted. I love Aya. I also LOVE the Movie...but that's a different story alltogether. Awesome game though! They SO should redo it for like the Ps3! n.n

if you can get a hold of a copy of the game, KEEP HOLD OF IT! the game wasn't that popular. most people that were interested were thinking of another FF7, and didnt like it because it wasn't like FF7. but the fans that like the game are die-hards. not to mention the games story has alot of science and real world truths behind it. though a bit exadurated here and there to make it more dramtic and fitting with the story. i've been wanting to do a review of PE for the longest time. i guess i could still do it... maybe later

this game was great. it was cool how square mixed the survival horror with the rpg element. parasite eve2 felt differnt with its more survival horror feel and game play like resident evil2.

  13. Ultimaterra2005 Nov 30, 2005

Yup. Still my favriote game since 98. It's ashame though that this franchise is dead with no word what-so-ever that any remakes are newer games are coming out.

    Miracles can happen though.....we hope.
