Shuffle! tv Review

Tsuchimi Rin is a high school student who attends National Verbena Academy. He spends his time with childhood friend Fuyo Kaeda and Shigure Asa. One day, two beautiful girls from the world of gods and devils transfer to his class and another artificial life form moves in with him. All 5 girls love Rin. Now he has to decide who will be the one he spends the rest of his life with.

The manga is illustrated by Shiroi Kusaka.

Story & Characters

The story of Shuffle! is yet another twist on the romance/comedy genre. While staying traditional to the harem style scenario, Shuffle! adds magical elements and outstanding character development into the mix. The favoritism of the childhood friend scenario seems to play prominent in the series and all of the characters have their good points. This is great when trying to create characters that you can get attached to, however it does make it rather difficult to choose a favorite as you don't want to see any of them get hurt. Also, because the characters all seem to have some sort of promise, it makes the balance seem slightly off. Still, it's a minor complaint. Fans of such series as Ichigo 100% and Sister Princess will find it easy to grasp Shuffle! as it stays with the traditional multi-girl style without becoming too ecchi in the process.

Art

The artwork was originally conceived from a dating sim game of the same title. Thus all of the character designs are very crisp and the execution is quite capivating. The backgrounds are lush and continue to flow steadily with every scene but you find almost all of your attention on the characters themselves. The males are portrayed accordingly the the females are all beautiful in their own way. As far as the traditional harem genre is concerned, I have found Shuffle! to maintain some of the best artwork.

Sound

The music in Shuffle! is outstanding to say the least. The intro song "You" but YURIA is a fastpaced song that is well coordinated with the intro animation. The lyrics also give off a sense of desperation from the singer which promotes well with the female leads in the anime. The ending theme "Innocence" is slower and more peaceful than the intro, but the lyrics continue to grasp the series well and will leave you wanting more. The song tone and lyrics are well delivered as well. Follow the series into the OSTs, and you'll find quite a bit of music to keep your ears happy. "In The Sky" is another prominent song that emerged from the game and you will find it to be an excellent piece if your a fan of the traditional music in the anime. The normal background music isn't anything to snear at either. Without being too prominent, the background music is soft and blends well with the animation scenarios at hand. The variations are kept to a minor note but are still distinctive enough to embrace the situation.

Presentation

I feel that the overall aspect of Shuffle! was quite enjoyable. The humor of the series is rather clean for the most part and the overall story flows nicely from episode to episode. Unlike a lot of series in the same genre, Shuffle! has captured me with its lack of filler episodes. Every episode seems to play nicely into one another even if only to show the tightening bonds betweem the male protagonist and one of the female leads. There are also a few story arcs that are thrown into the mix to keep the flow straight forward and on task. There is a small span in which Nerine is the primary focus of the male lead, then there is another with Sia as the focal of attention, then you will find a lot of tension with the Primula arc that has yet to be completed. Throughout the series, they manage to keep your interest captivated with a different scenario. The execution of the art is by far superior to that of other titles in the same category and the music only serves to smoothen the delivery of it all. Taking everything into account, Shuffle!'s crisp artwork and excellent soundtrack with leave romance/comedy fans planted in their seats and asking for more.

I definitely agree with this. Shuffle is probably one of my favourite anime thus far, right next to Da Capo. Great characters and art, and the voices and music are amazing. I can never wait to see the next ep xD

  2. ThaEagle Nov 01, 2005

Aren't you a little to keen about this anime? I honestly don't se that many differences between this series and many others in the genre, e.g. Da Capo. I can admit that I to fancy this series but to give it approximately 97% is to over exaggerate it a bit, I would personally give it about 85%.

  3. Shoku Nov 01, 2005

I would give it a 10 no matter what flaw is in the anime

  4. Laggylagger Nov 02, 2005

I'd pretty much agree with this. Just that i don't think it was that good as in no flaws. They change the artwork a bit each episode. One of my favourites but the artwork doesn't beat the game artwork. Well done review.

  5. Kaius Nov 02, 2005

I will admit to having some problems with some of the pacing and was worried it might end dumbly like so many other anime out there, but now that some kind of milestone is reached(episode 15), the probability of an ending and a good one at that is attainable

    Nice review!

There is a limit to how bad and despisable an Anime can be. Shuffle rewrote the standards on that.

First of all, I’ll get the sole positive out of the way. The character designs are nice along with the artwork (for the most part). The animation, however, is too oddly linked together that it more resembles linked paper clips in durability. Why would they do this?

Now we got plot, which is basically NON-EXISTENT. Nothing in the first episode made sense at all. We were taken from one high school man who lives with his young high school girl caretaker (Maid anime homage?) and then we get to the odd “Pick your side, dark or light”, which just steals hints from Star Wars. The worst running out of ideas plotline type of all.

The characters don’t seem to have anything going for them other than looks. Their personalities are as gray as rock plants in the desert. The worse part about it is that the populace seems to be chock-full of weirdos, including an attacking baseball player who is part of a fan club called the KKK (Don’t think I’m making that up, it’s true) who gets defeated in one weak move.

The music is just not right at all. The beginning of the first episode has one track playing for about 5 minutes. The song just bores you to sleep as well as bores you to throw up at the “HEARTY” music. The opening theme (all 6 seconds of it) is nasty and not a good experience.

    But the show gets WORSE:

A preview I saw for episode two on a websie had pictures of nutty bikers and panty shots. Yes, panty shots. From DEVIL AND GOD WOMEN! How nice and thoughtful!

This show has nothing good going for it except for artwork. AAHHHHH-CHOOOOO. That is the sound that verifies I’m allergic to mindless fluff.

Geezus Sunyano, if you were that opinionated on it, you should have just wrote your own review. lol

  9. ZhuangQuan Nov 12, 2005

I definilty agree in this. Shuffle! is the best love story that I think even. It's also as similar as Da Capo but still Shuffle is the best..

  10. keevang Nov 13, 2005

    sounds interesting. ^^ maybe i'll watch. :)

  11. Andulien Nov 23, 2005

Mhh thanks for the Review. I think I have to watch it :)

  12. rurutia Nov 24, 2005

I see sunyano doing some bashing so i will defend my show.
I get the feeling that most of the opinions on plot and character development came after watching only the first few episodes. The plot is not as good as it could be i will admit that, but its there you just have to wait for it. Though a lot of the show is fluff, its a harem anime so you can't get mad because fluff was implied. Its your own fault if you did not see it coming.
This show has more plot than To heart and Lamune combined so im sorry i can't see eye to eye with you.
Characters: This is where i have the most trouble because the characters do have some individual characteristics. The more ignorant people tend to not see this and i do not understand. Sia is a schizoid, Asa is a pervert, Narine has something of a split personality and is trying to seprate herself from Lyrico. The only ones without personality are Kaede and Primula and primula was not allowed to have a personality in the demon world so you can't really blame her.
Wait you think the music is bad? No the music is just fine if you compare it to the music of bleach. I love bleach but the music is horibble and i have yet to hear worse.
This isn't an anime to watch if you are more for the action or drama genre but its still a good anime. I personally am getting a tad sick of the action genre and this show is a nice change of pace from the norm.

So overall, not my favorite anime, but still very good and quite enjoyable. Try and be more open-minded, there are far worse animes.

  13. Augereau Dec 16, 2005

I like it so much... that covers it

  14. Kyokii Dec 17, 2005

i agree that it is a decent anime. it isn't he best one out there by far, but it has enough to offer to keep you interested. the demon, god thing is interesting, but i don't see what the relevance it is to the whole scheme of things is. it's not taken seriously enough.

what creeps me out are the groupies. bleargh. they make me wanna puke. lol.

  15. KazeKei Dec 22, 2005

I personally like this series, but the art could have been better, it isnt good enough for a 9 in ART.

  16. nakrocker Jan 17, 2006

Well the art is very exceptional and the animation and story is outstnding personally, I think this series is outstnding! I'd give your review a rating of 10

  17. licorice Jun 16, 2006

Iwas surprised at Shuffle! to be honest. I didn't expect it to be as good as it was... I really enjoyed it, and agree with what you said in your review!
    Thanks!

How come this review doesn't say any thing about last 4 episodes which other people thought to be out of place?
