To make matters even worse, two angels of death, Takuto and Meroko, appeared to Mitsuki and informed her that she only had one year left to live! This news provides an even greater motivation for Mitsuki to fulfill her dreams, and with a little bit of divine intervention, she begins her quest to become a professional singer so she can be reunited with Eichi before time runs out.

Story & Characters

Full Moon wo Sagashite has a very touching story, one that reaches out to your heart and pulls it in. The story is an underlying one, meaning that it is not blatantly shown. Full Moon wo Sagashite starts off very light and cute, with lots of fluff on top. However, as the story unfolds and plot twists come flying out of corners, all the fluff vanishes and it slowly becomes more sad. The story is sometimes hindered by some filler episodes here and there, especially near the beginning, but otherwise it is generally smooth flowing and easy to follow. The middle of the story is filled with plot twists and this gives depth to many of the characters that are featured in the anime. The characters reactions to events and their responses are very realistic. The story's pace picks up near the end, placing you on a roller coaster ride. Once the momentum begins to pick up, it draws you in so much that you will want to keep on watching the next episode. The finale of the story is a very nice one. It gives a "closed book" feeling, one that if continued would just spoil the story. Truly a gem in a haystack.

Rating: 10

Art

The art is generally consistent throughout the series, no drop nor increase in the quality. The character designs are fresh and well-designed. Outfits of the characters change depending on situations and usually fit the occasion very well. Artwork looks abit on the childish side, not fitting the story's sad tone later on. Bright colors are mostly used while darker tones are avoided till the situation warrants it. Overall, while not amazing, the art works very well with the story's humour and happy feel. The lines are clear and crisp, enhancing the sharpness of the anime. The detail of the enviroment however, is lacking in certain scenes. Trees are sometimes seen as triangles that are rough around the edges. The animation is smooth and does not have any jerky feeling to it, making it easy to view without being too much of a pain to the eyes.

Rating: 8

Sound

Vocals are very well done and one can really feel that the singer means every word she sings. However, voice-acting on Mitsuki's side is quite unfitting. Her voice is too deep for a girl of her age. Background music is very well-timed and the insert songs are placed perfectly such that the scenes are enhanced. OSTs are nice to listen to and rather catchy, one may find oneself singing along before long. The Ending songs are songs sung by the main character and fit the story extremely well. Opening Songs are done by SCANTY and are a good kick-start to the anime. Generally, the songs and background music are well done. Voice-acting however, is not so well-done, with a lack of suitable expression at some points.

Presentation

The anime is very enjoyable with bits and pieces of humor littered throughout the show. The humour between characters is very funny to watch and provides this anime with a "happy" feel. The story's concept is very clear by the end of the series, making a very good impression on the viewer. The conversations between characters are very realistic and usually tell important plot points. The concerts of the main character are beautiful and enjoyable to watch, even the audience's expression is captured in the scene. The anime starts of with a very unique message to "keep a suitable distance from the TV", one that many would find amusing. There is also a re-cap of the story so far before every episode begins, eliminating the need for flashback scenes in the anime itself. This also aids those who have missed a previous episode to catch up on the story without missing important bits of information.

The opening songs aren't sang by Myco, though...the Scanty sing the opening songs!

  3. TheWizzard Oct 28, 2005

Agrees, the opening songs are from "The Scanty" ("I love you" and "Rock'n'Roll Princess") and not from Myco. Myco sings the "New Future" (1st ending) and Myself (2nd ending). "Eternal Snow", "Smile" and "Love Chronicle" are sung by "Changin' My Life". That's all from the most commone songs from the series ^_^

Other than that, nice review ^_^

  4. Mabui Oct 28, 2005

Changin' My Life IS the group that Myco sings in... ^^; And yes, The*Scanty made the opening songs, but other than those all the songs where sung by Myco and her group Changin' My Life.

Nice review, but I have to disagree on one thing. How can you not like the voice acting? It's so good it gave chills sometimes(like all last episode).

Fist of, nice review you got there. I have to say that the ending gives the series some extra points, it's got to be one of the best endings to a series, at least to my opinion. The series feels a little childish especially in the beginning, the "shinigami" suits for example and the fact that the main character is only 12, but it becomes more mature by the episode. You have captured the feel of the series very well in a relatively short review. Good work.

yes i agree...it isn't the best anime around...it's....too...chilish...too...inno(...) however i think this review is well writen! =D great job! =D

Thank you all for your comments! And sorry about the Opening and Ending songs mess up, my mistake. [Edited Review]

@Mabui: While i'm not saying it's bad, i just find that the voice acting lacks the 'oomph' at certain points. For example, sometimes when Mitsuki goes 'Ehh?!' it sounds like she's reading off a script.

    i like your review, I think it sums up the anime quite well, and I'd probably put the same ratings for it, except maybe a bit more for the sound. ^^;

I'm so in love with Changin' My Life~! When I first heard the songs, I went and downloaded it straight away. I think the music is the best part of the anime. What I didn't like about it is how it dragged on a bit at the beginning...I think the story really only started at around ep 40? But I suppose you do need some of the fillers to build on the characters. I totally agree that the ending is good! It's one of the few animes that I didn't go 'huh? is that it?' or 'what just happened? i don't get it' kind of thing. It's definitely worth watching for those who like a bit of lightheartedness as well as a full on emotional plot all in one package!

Nice review. True that Mitsuki's voice is unfitting (that's what disappointed me)... but I think that there are too many fillers and it's just in the end it's more interesting... even if I like what Madoka has brougth.

I like better the manga... especially the artwork. But the songs are great (well not the rock ones), I really like Eternal Snow.

Good review. I will agree that it was a nice ending that was emotional and sweet. But I thought there was HUGE flaw in this anime. So, we've come to the conclusion about 60% through the anime that Takuto likes Mitsuki. I thought that was a nice touch. But, there is absolutely NO indication that Mitsuki likes Takuto. Yes, you get the blushing and what not during the last 5 episodes, but after watching her be completely IN LOVE with another guy for the entire anime and then

    [HUUUUUUGE SPOILER]

the guy dies and then "oh, well, Takuto likes me and he's right here." Nope... don't buy it. I thought it really weakened Mistuki's character and the anime in general. There just wasn't any lead up to the idea that Mitsuki could fall for Takuto. There was no confusion or hesitation (like she should have had).
So, anywho... Yet again, I agreed with everything else in the review (the songs were very nice), but the plot just had an undeniable hole.... for me at least. ^_^

hi, thanks for the review. How many episodes in all (CDs), and do you happen to know what volume the manga ends? thank you =)

  12. tanpopo136 Nov 02, 2005

oh! i like " Full moon " very much >___________< , love mizuki , love takuto_ my sama but i don't know manga ends TT______TT ? Who know ? ^_______________^

  13. tsukasagr Nov 02, 2005

If this series wasn't so childish _looking_, I think it would definately _not_ be for children. I thought the manga was more serious, though.

  14. Missy-K Nov 04, 2005

Full Moon was definitely an "A" for me. The story about a young girl fighting her disability and going through such lengths to achieve her dreams was really moving. And the final episode ALWAYS makes me cry.

Great review. I agree that some of the voice actors could have been better, but were still endearing. Mitsuki probably had a deep voice because of her weak throat to begin with but oh well.

    Thanks for a thorough criticism.

  15. Zero37 Nov 06, 2005

Full Moon is awesome beyond words. I'd give a 9 for the sound (can't stop listening to the songs, esp. Eternal Snow and Smile. They're just so... I don't know, but I love them). But otherwise I pretty-much agree with the ratings. The ending is such a tearjerker too... *sniffle*

  16. renki Nov 17, 2005

I like this animation very much.
    I always look.

  17. Andulien Nov 23, 2005

I have just watched it and I liked it but as many said here already it's to childish in most of the time. But you wrote an great review about it .thx

  18. riku-chan Nov 30, 2005

I really love your use of visionary explanations ^^ it was truly an enjoyable read~

The anime ending certainly warrants a better rating apart from the manga. There really was that "closed book" feeling like the end to a Disney movie.. though the manga did strive to do the same with reference to "New Future".

For Full Moon, the fillers were necessary to distract from the tear-breaking under story, it would certainly have made an award-winning classic if that was in-existent though that's just my perspective..^^
