Ikkitousen tv Review

Story & Characters

Hakufu isn't the brainest student around but she sure does pack an incredible punch. Now that our busty heroine has moved to a new school she finds destiny has started in motion. The reincarnation of an ancient warrior, Hakufu is thrown into raw fights against other members of the student body as well as against students from different schools. Can she avert her father's fate and survive the battle of her life...?

A series that focuses on buxom babes beating the living snot out of each other, "Ikkitousen" is the kind of series that you're either going to fap about for eons to come, or attempt to forget completely.

The reincarnation and "fighting against destiny" aspects of the plot are really rather interesting, but unfortunately they take the backseat to some rather poorly directed fighting and some completely dull fanservice. All and all a rather standard package that fails to adapt the manga's style into animated form. Probably only recommended for those who enjoyed the Tenjou Tenge anime or similar.

Rating: 5

Art

One of the main draws of the series is the gorgeous original manga work by Shiozaki Yuji, and stunning anime character designs/art by Hasegwawa Shinya. The lush illustrations from the region 2 DVD inserts are breath-taking.

The visual presentation over the course of the actual series however is average. The animation quality is never high, but still manages to drop to "poor" every couple of episodes. The backgrounds are bright but ultimately lifeless. Only the characters themselves really stand out visually in this series.

Rating: 7

Sound

I must admit I do like the opening theme by move ("Drivin' Through The Night") and I find the ending theme ("Let Me Be With You") by shela to be pleasant, but the OST is fairly dull and none of the background tracks stand out.

The voice acting in the Japanese version is superior to the English dub in the sense that the actors from the Japanese production really have a "feel" for their characters and you can sense their understanding in the portrayl. The English actors simply do not have the same connection, though it has to be said that neither are brilliant by any stretch of the imagination.

Presentation

Not a particularly funny/original/intelligent/exciting/etc. series, but one that can be enjoyed nevertheless if one is simply in the mood for a bit of fanservice and fighting fun. Ikkitousen isn't ground-breaking but it does have some interesting aspects. Not the best thing in the world, though certainly not the worst.

I would probably recommend the original manga over the anime adaptation to those interested in the series because the manga gives a lot more depth to the driving plotline and the fights are far better illustrated. The "Battle Vixens" manga adaptation by Tokyopop however is very different in written form to the original so I probably would steer clear.

As mentioned above, "Ikkitousen" isn't the kind of series that will change your world, but it never really aspires to be. It's simply pretty girls fighting with bonus panty shots and ripped bras. If that's your cup of tea then you should check it out. Otherwise...? Maybe not. The visual book that goes with the series is probably a wiser investment than the actual series itself if you're a fan of the girls, at least they're looking gorgeous all the way through the book!

This is a very interesting review from you. During the days of my perverted ways, I actually went to search for scans of the Ikkitousen characters. There are certainly plenty of panty-bearing scans and wallpapers in this category, a sure pick for those who search for ecchi scans. As for the presentation, I really don't think that most fighting anime changes anyone's world unless the fighting comes with a purpose, such as to show others that one person could make a difference in how we all interact, and I concur that a fight for better society is what most people could use right about now.

This is one of the worst anime I've ever watched. Rape and silly violence. And the ending weren't even an ending, not one that I'd accept anyways. Good review though. But I do have to say that I think that the Overall Rating 5.6 was way too high. 2 at max. But that's only my opinion. ^^

I'm glad to see that there are some in MT that think the same way as I do when it comes to Ikkitousen. It is indeed one of the worst animes I've ever watched. I was sad to see that there was another review posted about Ikkitousen giving it a B and having 4 different people AGREE. This made me look down on them. I like the review, it fits the bill for the anime.

ya, i agree, i think it deserves a little more credit. some of the characters are pretty complex, and the whole story changes when she gets that skull tatoo. i think the story was pretty well done.

A very interesting review. Even though I like Ikktousen, it did has some flaws, like the sound and background, but it was very minor to me. I would give it a near excellent, but in true opinion, I would give it a 8.80

Too much fighting? Please, have you seen DragonBall series? That's too much fighting, as a matter of fact, that's too much repetitive fighting. That's why you're a mute member. You can't give a perfect reason how one anime show is bad, like Ikktousen.
