Plot Synopsis
Ikari Shinji's father is the head of a company called NERV. This company uses giant Mech's that are called Eva's, to fight against an opposing threat to earth: Angels. Throughout the 26 episodes and two movies, Shinji teams up with other 14-year-olds his age: Ayanami Rei, the quiet blue-haired girl who pilots Eva 01; Langly Asuka Shoryu, the fiery red-headed girl who pilots Eva 02; Nagisa Kowaru, the boy who loves Shinji, but turns evil and pilots Eva 03; Suzuhara Toji, the bully who hits Shinji, but in the end pilots Eva 04. These young boys and girls all fight to save the world day after day in an epic story with twists and turns throughout the series called: Neon Genesis Evangelion.
Story & Characters
<<<Year 1946, north Africa, It has been 9 months since 2nd world war ended... some Africans have found weird scrolls in one of forbidden Italian caves. 'Scrolls from Dead Sea' - that was how Lilim called this archeological discovery but.... soon Rome has decided that those papers should belong to 'Forbidden list' because of prophecy they carried inside... prophecy about the end of humanity and begining of the new age in Earth history. Very soon SEELE was created and started working on 'Human complementation plan'. There were also two dates: 13th september 2k and 15 years later.....
Anno Domini 2000. Earth was attacked by giantic sized meteor which caused death of 2/3 of population and many wars which killed most impact survivors. The catastrophy was called 'The second impact' and started counting to 2015 when second part of human elimination should began - Angels - humanoid war machines sended by God to destroy humanity....
Only three kids born after Second Impact are able to stand against enemy using Humanoid Biological Robot called shortly EVA or Evangelion....
Now this is how plot looks at the begining. What, at the begining?? Isn't it similar to most of anime when great mecha are fighting with bad and ulgy monsters to protect the world?? No? So what is different? Scrolls from dead sea? Angels? You know what? EVEYTHING IS DIFFERENT...
Everyone who watched Shin Seiki Evangelion understands what I'm writing right now. EVA is different, mechas are fifferent, charas are different, ending is different (or should I say TWO DIFFERENT ENDINGS??). At the begining it might look like 'just another mecha anime' yeaaaah right, but soooner or later you will start thinking about some weird things, like 'what the hell is EVA? Robot? Human beeing or maybe... Angel??' or 'LCL? you mean what, isn't it the same that mother carries unborn baby in...?' no I'm saying just too much...
What is great about EVA's plot is that you might watch series twice or even three times... so what? you still don't know and understands half of things! I mean, can anyone explain me (giving really, honestly proof) what the hell was that thing which appeared during second impact? Before Misato woke up and saw giant wings above the sky? EVA? Angel? Adam?....
Plot is just great, charas are awesome, mecha also, world after cataclism looks just great and exactly the way that he should look in every 'this kind' anime. And the ending... I have never seen such a thing.... I won't say aniything, you have to watch it by yourself.
During the series you might noticed that this anime isn't exactly about fighting with Angels, it is about Shinji's groving up... his first love... (no? Don't you know who is his first love? Go back to episode 9 and watch END OF EVA C A R E F U L L Y)... his first friends and finally his neverending battle with... his own father... and after that you might noticed EVAs (and EVA 01 secret - terryfing), Angels, all NERV facility and HCP....
SO ... 20/10!!!!

Art
Well EVA was aired in 1996 so you might think it looks like crap... no it is a huge misunderstanding thinking like that... still after 9 years it is worth watching, even if animation is not as great as it should be... but... I will never forget some episodes which were animated just outstanding: 2nd - Beast, goddamit during watching this episode I thought that I gonna fakk down from seat.... GREAT!, 16th - man watching Angel beeing smached from insie by EVA01 was terryfing but not as much as... 19th - Ressurection of real EVA form, in the best art form I could ever wish... END was remastered perfectlly so I don't have to tell anything....
but still it is 8/10

Sound
I shouldn't even start writing about sound because it is really awesome. Do you believe that GAINAX created different versions of 'Fly me to te moon' (ending) for most of episodes?? Also singers like Megumi Hayashibara (also given a voice for Pen Pen:), Rei Ayanami and Yui Ikari) should not be recommended because they're already recommended by themselves.... 6 different soundtracks 9including one single CD for all versions of Fly me to the moon), great Komm suser Todd from END of EVA or Jesus bleibet meine Freude have build very uniqe and one of the most onforgivable soundtracks in anime history..... anyone who will oppose?? :P

Presentation
At the very begining I really thought that eva is a kind of anime with mecha,
ANOTHER anime with mecha. I was wrong and I'm really happy that I was so damn
stupid. Most of us, anime fans discovered great mile stone - EVA, it really
changed everything.
The history of anime is divided to two groups - before Shin Seiki Evangelion and
after Shin Seiki Evangelion... Moreover none of any other different anime I
watched (for ex. Berserk, Sousei no Aquarion [damn similar way of looking on the
world] or let's say Ghost In The Shell SAC) never ever changed my way of
thinking about this kind of ART (i mean anime of course) EVA was sometimes funny
(at the begining and when Asuka arrived to Neo Tokio 3), sometimes rude, honest,
mostly serious and really really good teaching, but it never felt over my
expactations. Yes it is hard to understand it is highly RECOMENDED for wiever to
watch EVERY SINGLE EPISODE to start undertanding ANYTHING but it is really worth
it.. No doubt.....

you could have said more about how great it is but i think we get the point. it deserves this rating. every anime dude should know this series.
it is veeery hard to write bout eva... I wrote many descriptions in my national language - Polish and I shuould say it was even harder for me... it's because EVA is difficult to understand and even more difficult to descrobe to another person ... :|
But it's really cool, you know. I get what you're saying. =)
And true, EVA is kinda confusing... Nice.
EVA is one of the most controversial anime.....but that doesn't mean it's good....

yes of course that controversal not always mean good... but just tell that to all EVA fans all over the world, they'll crucify you, so would I if you won't give me real, good proof that EVA is crap...

anyone who tells me "Eva is a crap" without any proof. Just make a search for EVA in the Google
and you will get millions of sites of eva fans... that´s the right oppositte of what you have said,

It really is hard to discribe Evangelion in any launge, I think the creator even had a bit of trouble, supposedly he had some kind of mental disease though(thats just a rumor thought, so who knows?).
btw who the f**** wrote this short eva description nest to mine ? Kinda' dumbass or stg? How can Rei be a EVA01 pilot while this is Shinji's Unit? Maybe he watched just 1st, 8t, 18th and 24th episode ... :| I just don't get how they let this description to a man who have no damn idea 'bout the series....

i love it no matter what the the characters personalitys weave an intrecet but exciting web of life and the have presented it in a manner that apeals to most age groups. the creator of this series would have had to have been a deep thinker, or a man of many words. and loke shadow of doom said to try and describe the deep and meaning fulness of the story would be worthless because it is not the story it is the unknowen that is the tru meaning og the story, th inner being and soule that makes the series what it is an that series is totaly amazing and if you havent watched it you should:D
this is a great series i am watching the show on adult swim and reading the books at the same time i am also buying the dvds.
Evangelion has a great story to it and more it goes past things you wouldn`t expect by just watching the first episode.

Neon Genesis Evangelion is one of the greatest anime ever produced - it revived an animation industry in an era where
groundlings' fantasies were the rage. Messianic in scope, Melvillian in structure.
In short, EXCELLENT.
Now, wildrig,
GIVE ME AN EXCELLENT REASON WHY NEON GENESIS EVANGELION IS NOT AN EXCELLENT ANIME.
Overated. Good anime, yet the end really was really awful.
