Plot Synopsis

Officially The Social Welfare Agency is an Italian government sponsored corporation that is in the business of saving lives. However, in reality it is an agency on the fringe of technology that gives terminal children another shot at life using cybernetic implants, shaping the patient into an efficiently deadly machine, and then using them to handle all the governments dirty work. Each child assassin is assigned a handler known as a fratello, meaning 'brother' in Italian. Each Fratello is set with the task of overseeing the cyborg's basic welfare and training. The anime focuses on the conflicts arising from the needs to create an efficient weapon along with the needs of a growing adolecent girl, the relationship between each girl and her Fratello, and the conflicts that arise.

Story & Characters

Melllooooooooooooooooooooooooow....from start to end all there was melloooooooooooooooow. When I started watching this anime I thought maybe I made a wrong decision, and then afterwards I discovered that I DID make wrong decision. This could have been a very good anime, the character development is like none I've ever seen before. I saw a couple of the first episodes and thought well......maybe this is gonna pick up.....and it didn't. VERY mild anime.
The story is about these orphaned girls who sustained very serious injuries, with no parents and nowhere to go. They were given artificial limbs and conditioned (brainwashed). The story progresses as the girls are introduced and we see each of the girls personal lives and their relationship with each other and with their "brothers".
Each girl has a fratello or what you would call a team, and this team consists of the girl and her mentor, or the "brother". All the girls love their brothers very much and would sacrifice their lives to protect them, but if their brothers don't show any love or have problems communicating that's when the problems starts....and this is mainly what the whole anime is about, the girls and their problems with their "brothers".
I would have given this anime an eight if it weren't for that damn ending....after i finished the last episode I went on the internet looking if maybe there was like a special or an ova or somethin that can give me a satisfying end, and as you can imagine the end is pretty damn important.

Art

The artwork was very good, closeups of the girls were very closely drawn, and the artwork never deteriorated as the series progressed. The fight scenes were always interesting....it's weird looking at an eight-year-old firing an automatic rifle. Anyway...I think the artwork is one of the most intersting things in this anime, all the girls had very unique looking persona and faces, which is a good thing since in anime nowadays all the damn characters look the damn same. The artwork of the backgrounds was also very cool, since this anime mainly takes place in europe (there is alot of detail drawing the buildings, streets, etc.).

Sound

The music was nice, especially with the opening song, the parts where the girls play their instruments is also very nice. the background music was good as far as all the other aspects of this anime get, but really I think sound or music shouldn't be the best thing in anime ( don't get me wrong sound is really important aswell), it should only compliment it by instilling the message the anime is trying to pass on to you.
Also, the fact that the girls in thanime are carrying Amati instruments(apparently some famous classical instrument maker) means that the maker of this anime acounted music as a very important part of this anime.

Presentation

MILD'n'MELLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW. That's all this anime was about (except for the gunfight scenes which only make up 10% of this anime and which were really nice), but don't get me wrong I still think this was a very original anime, but in some way it failed to give me any feeling of enjoyability. the end was very mild, and didn't make much sense......the anime in general didn't move me in any way. Even though it did bore me at times when I was watching, Gunslinger Girl had its moments, sometimes you can feel the longing of the girls to impress their "brothers", but that's all the whole anime was about.......the girls trying to impress their "brothers".

If your trying to get an anime that is purely on the emotional side, then I think you should get Gunslinger Girl, if your looking for bloody gore and people's heads getting cut off by naked chicks go watch Elfen Lied .
All I can say is you can watch this if ur really bored and this was the only anime you had, and/or if u like mellooooooooooooooooooow anime.

I have to disagree with you on the story part. Oh and to give 8/10 for sound when classical music is the main component of the seires is an insult. Music can make or break a show, movie, etc. Music speaks what words cannot. Of course, you saying that Amati is "apparently some famous classical instrument maker" tells me how much you know about music and also says a lot about your taste.
I'll show you guys a real review of Gunslinger girl. Coming soon.

I rather liked the series and didn't find it boring at all. I also really loved the music in it. The anime didn't really have much of an ending because the manga that it's based on hasn't come to a close yet.

I also agree that GSG was a beautiful series. To give it 6/10 is ignorant. Of course, if you completely could not appreciate it, then I guess 6/10 would be appropriate, but I didn't think it was that bad.

The ending was beautiful. I won't spoil it, but Beethoven's 9th Choral Symphony, is just.. amazing with that last scene.

GSG was one of the better animes I've watched, great ending aswell very fitting for what the story tries explain. I'd atleast give it a 8/10 in my book.

*resists urge to flame*
...
anyway, i myself have only seen the first 5 episodes(ill be getting 6-9 pretty soon though), and i couldnt disagree with the entirety of youre review any more, as so far i absolutely love the anime, and i love the music and artwork(along with the story line) so much more then what you give credit for =\
true, the story line does take a little getting used to, and it also requires a state of mind to truly get, that much i will give you slack for, but to say that the story line never picks up would be a lie, as just by the 5th episode the story made quite a bit of progress, and had explained sooo much about how it came to be, and it also gave a bitof detail about the lives of 3 of the 4 girls, and how they came to be part of the orginization.
and the fact that you only liked the action scenes explains youre daftness while typing out this review.
anyway, thus far i would give the anime a 9/10

mellow anime?your review seems biased because of the words you used.and you don't understand the ending?it's not good to review an anime you don't understand.i haven't seen this anime, but by reading such replies(and analyzing how you reviewed it) i can see some sort of a diagnosis.to put it simply, this anime just isn't your type.you tried to explain the pros and cons, but ended up with the wrong words.
