Prince of Tennis

Prince of Tennis tv Review

Prince of Tennis takes place in modern Tokyo, following the journey of tennis prodigy Ryoma Echizen. Ryoma enrolls in Seishun Gakuen (Seishun Academy), Seigaku for short, a school famous for its strong tennis club and talented players.
Because of his cool and apathetic attitude, upperclassmen challenge him to matches. However, Ryoma had won the American junior tennis championship four times in a row, and easily defeated the upperclassmen.

Making new friends and learning new tennis tactics, Ryoma and the Seigaku tennis club strive to win the All-Japan Junior High Tennis Team Championship!

Based on the synopsis by niomea.

Story & Characters

The story talks about a 12-year-old boy called Ryoma Echizen from the US. He won 4 consecutive US tennis championships in the space of 1 and 1/2 years and brought his talent to Japan. He joined a popular and one of the best tennis schools called Seishun Gakuen junior high school, which is also as known as Seigaku and became a regular at his 1st year there. He learns to find his own type of tennis in an attempt to defeat his biggest obstacle of all. his father, Nanjiroh Echizen, as well as himself. The regulars included The captain Tezuka Kunimitsu, the vice captain Oishi Syuichiroh, Momoshiro Takeshi, Fuji Syusuke, Kaidoh Kaoru, Eiji Kikumaru, Inui Sadaharu and Kawamura Takashi. The plot and storyline is interesting and humorous and a popular anime in Japan. The story has also made more interesting by adding rivalry schools into it including the Fundomine, Yamabuki, St. Rudolph and Hyotei. To me there is some characters they should get rid of or basically make them show up less! This anime is considered unique or unusual because not many Japanese create an anime that is based on sport.

Rating: 10

Art

The presentation overall in this anime is excellent. Throughout the whole anime the drawings of the characters remain the same whist some other animes drawings change throughout the anime. The art used appealing colours and done professionally, and most of the animation there is realistic and not too fake. I particularly like the fact that all the characters in this anime is has their own unique personality. So to sum it up the art is colourful, drawn professionally, and realistic (well most of it is.)

Rating: 9

Sound

The music used is pleasing and enjoyble to listen to. They're not sang by the best bands or singers in the world but its the track itself that is really to be considered. To me the songs are quite good and the opening and ending themes are not too bad. Here are some songs that are in the anime:
You got game?, White Line, Future, Driving Myself, Shining, Wonderful Days, Your Style and some others that are used as background music. Theres some other miscellaneous tracks that I particularly like such as birthday song which i think was used in the band of princes music video.

Rating: 8

Presentation

Overall the presentation is fantastic, each character has their own personality which makes the anime interesting such as Inui with his "special juices" and making everyone trying them out (hilarious!), Tezuka a strict captain, Eiji the big kid and some others. The characters style of play is impossible to perform in real life but it is interesting to watch and motivating. This anime is very enjoyable to watch and I recommend it to sport lovers, anime lover well everyone! The creators of The Prince Of Tennis try to make scenes that dont always include tennis so the anime doesnt always stay the same. Its not very original as there is not many animes in Japan that is just based specifically on sport so I would say the idea used for this anime is unique and diffrent. The humour is quite good as it is used frequently, relevantly and at the right time and also they put in specific characters to create a humourous atmosphere such as the 3 freshman that are in the same class as ryoma, especially the one with the brown hair (with his dodgy green and orange shirt.....ergh....), The two stalkers, well reporters, (you cant blame me! theyre everywhere!). So overall the presentation is not too bad.....

Very nice review, but I wouldn't agree with the sounds though. Many of the bgms are reused over and over again, which got dull after a long while. The opening themes and ending themes were interesting because they were sung by the voice actors themselves. And it was an enjoyable anime as it was something different as well.

Everything seems to be right. It's a good thing you put how old Ryoma is or people might think that he is older than 12. He does look older than 12. THe other Seigaku players look older too.

  4. animefan05 Jul 14, 2005

yeah thanks for all your comments! keep them coming! ^^
yeak i know ryoma no way looks like 12 years old and you know atobe? hes fourteen!

I agree with it. Prince of Tennis rocks!!! But, to tell you the truth,I don't really like the 3 freshmans.... Other than that... I totally agree!!! I also like the fact that the cast sang songs for the anime.

  7. animefan05 Jul 16, 2005

i find the 3 freshmans, the 2 reporters, sakuno AND her scary friend tomoka (i think) reaaaallllly annoying i wish they'd just disappear!!!

  8. animefreak222 Jul 16, 2005

Tenipuri is so much love. =3

there is a lot of BGM's that are overused, yes. But they make it up by having the characters/rivals sing their own songs. (Wonderful Days is my personal favorite song) <3

Your review was very nicely written. Good job. ^^

i love POT and i tink ur review is well justified... the anime drawings din vary much throughout the whole duration of its 178 eps which is q commendable... i love the detailed matches between all the characters and yes, each individual character is fleshed out very well with their each distinct personalities... it's the only anime that had me pawing through fansites and stuff to know more abt the characters since i dun read the manga...
and the soundtracks and music~! it's the only anime with so much music? including the character singles and albums.. there much be like almost 100 cds of their music... and the rajipuri... haha... it's still going on even now when the anime has ended which is testimonial to how popular it is...
as for the plotline... i hafta say it gets pretty predicatable after awhile and the ending was... quite adrupt though there is that "closure"... the filler eps are all quite hilarious with the chibi versions of the characters doing some really dumb stuff...

I also agree with your review. This is probably one of the animes I watched fastest despite its length. The characters are so lovely and I had to laugh quite often (I absolutely love the ep. about the "date" :) )

I totally agree with your review. POT is amazing. It's my favourite anime. Tenipuri is the best. i just think it ended too soon, don't you agree? I would like to have seen the Nationals. POT 4ever! =)

  19. pegasusseiya Jan 16, 2006

I really like POT, my favourite are Tezuka & Fuji. But I didn't like the end of the anime (Too much explosions and sfx^^).
But I really prefer the manga, the drawing is better.

  20. toojadded Mar 04, 2006

Since I've yet to finish watching POT, So far I can only comment on the soundtracks and its true that some tracks aren't sung by the best of bands...and as much as I love fuji, he really should just stick to tennis. I get tired just listening to him sing. But echizen is an excellent vocalist. I think if my MP3 player can complain it'll be bitching on how often I play echizens albums.

  21. shakine Mar 28, 2006

I think soundtracks of PoT is very good , they are sung by characters in the film , so special . I love Syuusuke voice , it's very sweet . Anyway , I love PoT so much , I wish PoT were really >_<
