One Piece tv Review

One Piece, the treasure of a lifetime, is being sought by every pirate in the seven seas. One boy's dream is to find that treasure and to become King of the Pirates. That boy is Monkey D. Luffy, and with his rag-tag crew he will sail the Grand Line searching for a treasure that will make any pirate's dream come true.

Synopsis: Sargent066.

Story & Characters

One Piece is currently an extremely popular shonen anime, and a really long one too. Its the story of not so ordinary pirate Luffy, a Rubber Man out to become King of the Pirates. He picks up some crew members, and they go on searching for the legendary treasure One Piece. Each of the character has their own weaknesses and strengths, along with nice backstories. Zoro is a pirate hunter who fights using 3 swords. Nami is a theif and Navigator. That's just the first ones. The characters range from serious to funny, and they're all different. Being a Shonen Anime, there's a lot of action and adventure. One Piece also has a lot of comedy, making it a wonderful anime. It can be slow at times, and some of the archs are boring, but for the most part, it stays on track. Its expected that it can be slow at time. After all, its over 200 episodes long now. So if you plan to watch it, be careful, as it will take a lot of money/computer space to watch. But its worth it most of the time. There are also numerous movies and TV Specials that all are a part of the story, and a few games out. That should give you an idea of how popular it is. There is also a manga series, which runs in Shonen Jump. Overall, the story is pretty original. I don't think I've ever seen a pirate anime. I give it an 8.

Art

The animation isn't something to admire. Its rather simple. It kind of reminds me of an older anime. There aren't much special effects or CGI. But its still decent. There are worse out there.

One thing that bugs me is how some of the characters are drawn. My least favorite of all is Robin's eyes. The look more like alien eyes than human eyes. And its not something that you have to really look at to notice. Its quite obvious. They are large and wierdly shaped. They kind of creep me out.

The backgrounds are nicely done. They aren't too fancy, but they aren't like some anime that I've seen, where the backgrounds are done excellent, but no time is spent on the characters. Overall, the animations is balanced well between the backgrounds and the actual characters. It gets a 6.

Sound

The Japanese sub is much better than the dub, so I recommend the sub. The voices seem to match the characters much better. Luffy's English voice makes him sound years younger than he is, and Sanji's English voice is horrible. It makes my ears hurt badly. Stick with the sub. Its so much better.

The background music fits in well with the scenes. No complaints there. Nice easy going music while sailing, and more dramatic movement in the fight scene.

The OST is loaded with opening and closings. There are over five intros, and over ten outros. All of them are good. Some focus on individuals characters, and others focus on everyone. The sound gets an 8.

Presentation

This is a well presented anime. Its quite original, though I can see some minor recycling of some portions of some characters. Some parts are slightly stereotypical, but for the most part, its very original. There are also numerous possible couples, for those who like that. All of the crew are close, providing multiple possible couples for people to choose from. For me, that's a plus. I love an anime with couples. The romance isn't really important in this one, but it is present. Some of the types of couples are quite original.

The enjoyability factor and humor factors are high. If there's not a cool fight scene, there's usually humor. The humor is usually focused on the Captain, Luffy. He's not what you would call a normal Pirate Captain. But the humor does start to get repetitive. Sanji doing all he can to get Nami to like him is funny at first, but gets old. Luffy's obsession with meat is very humurous, but like Sanji, it gets old. And Nami's temper is nice too.

The re-watch factor is average. It is a good anime, but it can be hard to re-watch it. Especially in some of the slow parts. But then some parts have unlimited re-watch factors. If I were to re-watch this series, I would watch many parts of it, but I would certainly have to skip some of the less exciting parts.

Overall, this anime is presented quite well. There are some issues with repeating some of the humor and re-watching of the slow parts, but overall, its very good. I give it a 7.

Overall this series gets a 8 out of 10.
