I don't know if I would give a such note but I agree that serie is well made . The gfx are great and there is a
good story.
And most important, there is some kawai girl :)

Kazuki Shikimori lives in a a world where everyone can use magic. Not everyone’s magic is equal. Everyone has a set number of times that he or she can use their magic. Most normal people can to use magic around hundred times or so, while others can use their magic several thousand times. A person's social status is determined by how many times you are able to use magic. If however you use up all your magic, your body turns to ash and is scattered in the wind. Kazuki however is different from most because his magic count is less than 10. Then one day three girls Kuriko Kazetsubaki, Yuna Miyama, and Rin Kamishiro show up all wanting one thing... his genes. Although he himself has very little magic it is believed that his genes will one produce the greatest magic user of all time. Though they all want his genes only Yuna proclaims to be his wife after a childhood promise of marriage

Story & Characters
Maburaho is about Kazuki who has 8 times left to use his magic powers which are very powerful. Because of that he attracts attention from girls who want to get his genes. Yuna, Kuriko and Rin are among the girls who want him in different ways. A harem anime cum school kids with magic. Because of harem content, it has comedy which some are very funny. Since there is harem in it, there are fan services as well for the male. You get to see sexy lead females in pretty clothes from time to time. There are also scenes in public bath which makes the guys horny too. The whole story and ideas of showing him using up all his powers and become ghost are kind of interesting. That’s because you think that the girls are preventing him from not using all his powers and try to increase it. But they failed to do so. Then things began to gone nuts when Kazuki is too kind and friendly. Overall of storyline, it starts well until ep12 where there is a twist in plot which not many will expect when you first watch it. Then later the remaining 12, some are fillers which nothing much at all. But when it comes to the ending, the climax is very tense and exciting. So far it has one of the best plots twisting and creates tension in certain episodes towards the end.

The art of Maburaho, the characters are pretty well drawn with unique features and design and body figures, especially the girls. What impressive me the most is the transparent effect of the ghosts like Elizabeth and Kazuki (ghost). From time to time, you will see purple paper figures to illustrate Kazuki's classmates. This idea is very nice and didn't over use because they are shown only at the right moment, right timing. It is funny to see them suddenly pop up and creates a kind of environment where you find it amusing yet scary. The drawing and animation of using magic powers are very impressive. But you don’t see real magic battles often. When it does, it is very nice, impressive and is one of a kind. I like it when Yamase Chihaya uses the ice to protect her. If you watch it in slow motion, you see it very nicely drawn. The energy of magic power have nice effect and drawing too..

The background music from OST used in the show is very well presented and timing for the situation/environment is perfect. The OP is catchy and it goes very, very well with the OP scenes and credits. I like it how they time it so well with the animation. As for the ED, the theme tends to create a bit of sadness in it after you watch it; especially for certain episodes where you will get to feel the sadness and also happiness. The last episode of ED is something new because you don’t often listen to seiyuus from the anime to sing instead of the original singer. At least they try their best in singing. For character speech wise, so far nothing gone wrong at all.

I can't say this is totally original because harem anime has been around for quite sometime. But the whole idea of harem plus magic plus school kids and a twist of plot here and there make the anime a whole new one. You don’t often see this kind of shows now a day with magic and harem and school kids. When jumping to another scene, sometimes they use those colour bean characters to move the scene. It is pretty nice and it is totally original. Sometimes it is funny too. The way they mask certain parts of the scene are well done and used it for a very good reason too. Amusing part is the purple classmates with angry expressions. They really use it in the right situation and right timing. I really like Miyama Yuna get jealous because she is the type of jealousy wife kind of person. But the she's one of the main character in the show, so you have to accept that she can be annoying but that's how she is suppose to be. Plus she’s cute and pretty too. Actually she’s kind and caring and when she does, her face is very pretty and cute. When it comes to jealousy part, mostly it is because of Kazetsubaki Kuriko because she’s the type of sexy lady that wants to have those kinds of services. Sometimes they pull Rin into the problem and this is where you start to laugh. Towards the end of the series, you got to see nice flash backs of what they done previously. I like it how they do flash backs of Kazuki’s memory and those half scene of showing Yuna and Chihaya. You tend to get confuse if you don’t pay close attention to what they are showing. The starting is already a spoiler but not many people recall it until it reaches the end or you watch it all over again. Because of that, it creates excitement and make people curious of what’s going to happen in the next episode.

An excelent review. I happen to agree completly! and the fact that this show is so enjoyable to watch even if it has no fanservise, the storyline is soo intense that you dont have time to worry about it!
About thge bean charecters used to move the scenes, If you recall Yunna has a couple... i think there is something hinted there, an it is always almost used when Yuuna is in the next scene.
Overall an excelent anime, for those who cannot stand fan-subs no worries, ADV has the liscence to Maburaho, so expect an english DVD release soon!

The only thing that killed me about this otherwise cute anime was Yuuna's overkill obsessive behavior and distrusting of Kazuki. It seemed that she didn't trust him enough to be with anything female. Other then that, it was enjoyable to watch complete with several 'omg!' moments.

This series is great, and yes yuuna may go far with the obsession of kazuki but i have to agree with AnimeLove2004's score or 9.5 out of 10

So far, I would say that this is a pretty good series!
It showed scary, yet funny scenes with those purple figures and it also showed dramatic scenes like when HE disappeared (Vol. 3, 12th Episode)

i like the anime but the ending was inconclusive. i wonder if there will be more maburaho. i hope this anime doesnt end up like Ai Yori Aoshi and result in a dumb ending that leaves viewers thinking. i dont want to think.

Well I dont think there would be any more like second season. Anyway, this anime is good, though the art work is a bit old/ not detail.
