Ah! Megami-sama

Ah! Megami-sama tv Review

21 year old Keiichi Morisato's life unfolds when he accidentally dials the wrong number. From out of the mirror Belldandy, a first class goddess, is sent to help Keiichi by granting only one wish - "no matter what it is." Accidentally, Keiichi wishes Belldandy to be with him forever.

Soon after, Belldandy's older sister Urd (second class goddess) appears from the heavens to play as the lovely Cupid; as twist of events occur, her plan soon backfires. Skuld, Belldandy and Urd's youngest sister (also second class goddess) appears from the heaven in an attempt to return her dear sister Belldandy back to the Heavens.

Throughout the anime, Keiichi and Belldandy come across many obstacles testing their love for one another. Do they have what it takes to go against the Gods? Or will their love force them to separate for eternity? Ah! My Goddess is an anime for those who love Comedy, Fantasy, Magic, and Romance.

Story & Characters

ah my goddess, or ah megumi sama is about a seemingly unfortunate individual, one keichii morisato. accidentally calling on the phone and summoning a beautiful goddess belldandy, who enters through a mirror in his room to his distress, keichii thinks its aprank (somehow!) concocted by his shameless dorm-mates. telling keichii she has the power to grant him 1 wish, and one wish alone, keichii, in not one of his brightest moments, wishes for her to stay with him forever.
belldandy is the epitome of the perfect wife, kind, intelligent, caring, self-less, a master chef etc etc
keichii is... well something else, he studies engineering at the local nekomi tech university, and loves fixing anything mechanical (and he's quite good at it). modest, shy (to fault may i add), reserved but kind and caring, keichii seems to be our anti-hero, who's whimsical relations and dramatic life is much more entertaining as this review lets on

the only flaw with it's story would have to be the storyline(s) very vague, the interest factor is entirely dependent on the fleeting events that fit into each episode, there are no burning questions that drive me to watch this anime, only that i know it entertains 90% of the time. also this anime is very easy on the eyes, so you wont mind if it makes you yawn from time to time
o! and also, there is ONE real baddy, and she is the SADIST baddy you've seen, she's lame, belldandy defeats her by throwing a lucky object at her, because she's weak against them. and her other weakness... ROCK MUSIC... it FORCES HER TO DANCE... maybe i have a guy-ish taste in anime, but thats too placid for even me, this baddy doesnt have a bad bone in her body, she just wakes up on the wrong side of someone else's bed all the time!

Art

the contrasts between characters makes for a lively and interesting atmosphere. the innocent keichii, the pure and beautiful belldandy, the sensual and spontaneous urd, childish wunderkinly skuld and scheming sayoko to name a few

special FX, great. motion, excellent. lines and colours, the bloody best, do i go on? i think you get the point, repitition is the way of all things memorable. even all the wallpapers you'll find on this anime look friggin amazing, i mean, damn, and i reckon i have high standards, so this is pretty good comin from critical ol' me

Sound

the music is pretty good, the voice acting's top notch, as is all japanese voice acting ^_^ id wish for a little more eccentricity, but thats just me preference, urd does a pretty good job in this department, by eccentricity, i mean like that provided by the japanese voice of kyou from "fruits basket"... damn thats some good voice acting that is

the music for opening & closing, pretty unique, but appropriate and enjoyable, although the closing sequence DOES leave something to be desired, but hey, its just a closing sequence

Presentation

like i said, this anime is SO pretty, it just aint funny! the quality is zero to none, the makers of this anime really went all out to make this anime, probably because of the great success of its predecessors

late late note: this review refers to the new series, being released slowly at the moment, this moment being 11/6/05 not the OVA or older series which are something else altogether).

im one to ramble, but damn, this word limit is killin me, i was taught in school, short n sweet, well anymore words in this review and it'll be too rich for even augustus' blood (the fat kid who fell in the river of chocolate in "willy wonka & the chocolate factory)

in terms of what the characters do, there isnt a whole lotta action sequences, but i guess that cant be helped because this anime emphasizes the social relationships keichii has with various people (but mainly belldandy) again, just my preference, id like to see something get blown up once in a while, or even the occasianal bloody injury, but if every anime that, we'd have no children's animes cos everything could be rated 15+ ^_^"

it would be nice to have cool explosions and stuff but this anime is basically a love story and the target adience probably doesn't care about that kind of stuff
