One Piece tv Review

One Piece, the treasure of a lifetime, is being sought by every pirate in the seven seas. One boy's dream is to find that treasure and to become King of the Pirates. That boy is Monkey D. Luffy, and with his rag-tag crew he will sail the Grand Line searching for a treasure that will make any pirate's dream come true.

Synopsis: Sargent066.

Story & Characters

The story of One Piece follows a boy by the name of Monkey D. Luffy who dreams of becoming the world's greatest pirate: Pirate King, and finding the world's greatest treasure: One Piece. This is the era of pirates and Luffy starts off on his adventure finding people of become part of his crew.

The story itself isn't all that great and its actually very simple. There's a boy that wants to be something bigger than himself and is going to strive for it no matter how hard it gets. Its a typical shounen type storyline. However with that said, the story premise allows this show to go off into its own "mini stories" or arcs that contribute to the overall goal.

The beginning of the show goes into most of Luffy's crew members and explores their past and ambitions. Most of the arcs deal with the crew going to a different place and meeting a different character that has some sort of problem in their life.

The overall story of One Piece can get kind of repetitive as each arc is essentially the same as the one before. The crew goes to a place, sees a bad situation, finds a group of bad guys, and the crew beats them up with Luffy always getting the "main" bad guy. But the each arc does differ in the details of each situation that Luffy's crew meets.

However, because of the way the story is set up, this series can end up running almost endlessly and allows for a ridiculous amount of episodes to be in this series. But even with a redundant storyline, this does not drag down the show in the least bit.

Art

The art of the show may be what sets One Piece apart from the many different anime series and definitely will make the show stand out apart from the rest. The character designs are by far one of the most unique of almost any anime and are very bold and outrageous.

The art itself is probably what will turn many people away from watching this series. The designs are not very pretty when compared to many of the other anime series. (ex. Ghost in the Shell, Cowboy Bebop, Full Metal Alchemist) However the art does grow on you as the series progresses. Actually now, in my opinion the art design in this show is very good and quite attractive.

The colors used in this show are bright and uses a wide variety of different colors. However the art does lack the crispness and "shininess" of other anime shows that come out along side One Piece as much of the colors in One Piece appear washed out.

However, the art and animation in this show is quite consistent, while there are a couple of episodes where the art can get kind of bad. But as a whole, the art and animation has been steadily getting better as well.

Sound

One Piece has a great soundtrack incorporating blues, Jpop, and soft rock in their openings and endings. The music within the show, although not quite as memorable are nothing to complain about as well. The music has a more orchestral feel to it with a lot of strings, brass, and woodwind instruments to make the music. The style of the music is what you would expect from a show dealing with pirates.

The sound effects are nothing special and is pretty standard with most anime, although some of the sounds can be a little exaggerated, but hey, this is a comedy heavy anime, what else do you expect?

Now the voice acting in this show is nothing short of incredible. Its what gives the characters identity and personality. The show's great voice acting really help convey the emotion of the scene whether it be sad, funny, relaxed, or angry. The voices also match incredibly well the character portrayed as well. This is of course for the original Japanese voice actors/actresses.

The english dub on the other hand.... sucks. The voices do not match the characters and it really kills the mood when the english voice actors/actresses cannot laugh, cry, or say anything with the emotion needed. Also the dubbed version has also took out the orginal soundtrack and put it there own version which doesn't sound all that great. Its too hip hop and contemporary for a show like One Piece.

*Note: the rating is based on the original Japanese version of One Piece*

Presentation

The presentation of the show is the biggest reason why everyone should watch this show. You can have all of the other factors mediocore, but if you can execute it right, the bad aspects of the show just seem to go away. What this show excels at is its characters.

Each character is unique and given a lot depth and development throughout the series. The characters also makes this show very funny. Comedy is a big part in One Piece, and it is done very well. I have found myself laughing at least a couple of times on each episode. The comedy is funny without being vulgar or dirty.

This show at the same time can be very serious as certain characters with whatever they are going through can really make someone shed a few tears here and there. Its hard not the root for Luffy and his crew as they go through the series fighting one bad guy after the next.

But as a whole, One Piece is just a very light and happy series for the majority of the time. It is by far the most enjoyable series that I have ever watched and its just very relaxing and makes you feel good.

I highly recommend anyone to watch this series as its just fun to watch. With a great cast of characters and plenty of laughs, its a great way to spend some time watching something where you don't have to think so hard and you can just sit back and relax.

Could use some details but, over all, not a bad review. Don't agree with the ratings but that's the power of opinions.
