Story & Characters
Well, for starters, I pretty much hated this anime series. There is only so much of randmoness and random humor that I can handle and I drew the line with this anime series. I know many people who enjoyed this anime for those same reasons I disliked it. (my boyfriend being one of them. he thought it was a great series and was freaking out for a while after he saw it and told everyone he knew about how funny it was) but I personally thought it was too random and shallow for the first part of the series. The plot really only developed in the last two episodes. Everything else seemed like random filler and attempt at humor. I had some of the same problems with Excel Saga. Some of it was just TOO random. Don't get me wrong, randomness can be a fun thing, but when more than half of the series is random humor, it takes the fun out of it. Maybe if the series had been longer, they could have done more with it and I would have enjoyed it more. The only thing I really liked in this series was the ending theme and credits. The vespa flash thing was a fun idea.

Art
The art was pretty good. These were the artists from Neon Genesis Evangelion I believe so I wouldn't expect any less from them. I enjoyed their style in NGE. The style was just as good here, except for the giant lips.... I can't stand large lips and all the important girls in this series had them. That was one of the things that turned me away from this anime. The animation was smooth. The main male character reminded me a lot of Shinji from Evangelion though. But, I'd have to say the art (except for those lips) and the animation were the things that kept me watching the series. I would never have finished it otherwise, I don't think.

Sound
The voices were pretty good I'd say. They fit the characters very well. The dub
actors were not very good though, as is the case in the majority of anime. But,
they work. The Dub voices were good enough for those viewers who don't like to
read the subtitles.
I didn't mind the OST. The Pillows are an ok band. They did the ending theme and
some other songs for the series. the background music was also good. I think it
fit the series quite nicely. The soundtrack would be an ok buy I think. A lot of
the music was pretty catchy.

Presentation
This series was pretty damn original, I'll give it that. I've never seen
anything like it. The creators seriously must have been on crack or something
when they were writing this. Most of the things in this series are incredibly
strange and random. These guys really have an imagination.
The humor is very random as I mentioned before. Most of the time I was just
sitting there going "what? That makes no sense" I admit, I did chuckle
a few times at the weirdness, but the humor just got to a point where I got sick
of it and wanted to shut it off. (My boyfriend made me continue watcjing it
though. He said it got better and I believed him. to my disappointment it only
got better slightly when the plot actually kicked in)
I know many people who thought this was a great anime and an enjoyable show to
watch, especially for it's random humor and strange storyline. As I said before,
it was TOO random and strange for my tastes. But, if you're into strange things,
and like shows with random humor with plot development only at the end of it,
then this is the anime for you.

OMG, this rating is WAY too low!!!! FLCL is like the best anime I've ever seen!!!
it was deecent. but I can think of about ten different anime off the top of my head that are better than flcl. heh.... plus Minitokyo says to try and review other anime besides ones you like. So i decided to try that. this is my first review too though, so sorry if it's crappy. ^^; oh and I meant to give the art a 7 but it seems it changed it to 6 for some reason. I could have sworn it said 7 when I clicked the submit button. oh well.... If you liked the anime, then kudos to you. these are just my opinions. ^^ thanks for reading though!
I love randomness, even in masses. One reason why I liked it. I also like The Pillows. The art was good and I agree with the big lip thing to some degree. The story might have you watching FLCL again to get it or until it clicks with you. I seen that alot and also happening to me. (Click so far for me.)
Well anyways, your taste is your taste, mine is mine. So the rating all fine with me.
Yeah, the pollows are a good group and I like the art minus the big lips. *lol* Thanks for reading and commenting! ^^
i agree with the rating, RainHybrid made me watch the whole series, i hated it.
heh heh, well thanks for reading.
I think I agre with these ratings the story could have been better with all the random humer.
Even though I like FLCL, you're opinion is reasonable and balanced on the rating scale, which makes this review interesting.
Isn't it weird how they represented this series? I mean, there isn't really a story if you think about it. I do like it, but when I first watched it, I got confused and I got kinda lost of what's actually happen. At the end, I finally understand what was going on. I don't think you should have given FLCL a D-. It should be like a C+ or a B. Well, somewhere above average....
well i completely disagree with you. you think this anime doesnt have good art work?!?!?!?!?! how can u think that this show has some of the best art work ive seen in a while i mean alot of it is in bad taste and thats why alot of women don't like it because its "degrading" but just cuz you dont agree with what sumthing is about doesnt mean its not good art work. and also u dont think the show had amazing sound?!?!?!?!? this shows music was amazing i mean your intitled to your opinion but learn about something before u down grade it. and also all the randomness in the series added up to make the whole plot work
well, I had done this before they were giving out actual grades...so yeah, i was going for a C for this, but I didn't know the letter grades it would be given at the time I did this, so it's graded differently. does that make sense? like, yes, I was going for a C, but at the time, it was only a number grading system....

well if you had noticed, I sad the art work was the thing that kept me watching the series... and as I stated to the person who commented before you, I did this before they had letter grading and I would have given the series a C as a whole if they had a letter system at the time i did this...it was also my first review. cut me some slack, jeez...
quiet sorry i just tend to get a little angry when i c some one giving such a good anime a very low grade but also even without the letter system dont u think the artwork was worth more then a 5? i mean if its what u kept watching the show for then it should gotten a higher rating then the other things
I'm not being rude here, but am I the only one who thinks that this review didn't make much sense? I mean, giving in a 6/10 in Art just because you didn't like the characters' lips, even though it's by far one of the best looking, most stylish anime out there, which makes a nice difference from the awfully animated stuff that came out in the 90s?
Also, about the plot. You probably just took it as a humorous show without any deeper meanings. Well, I can't really blame you for this, that's how Adult Swim kept marketing it: a "random" show that isn't supposed to make any sense. Well, FLCL is far from that. If you think outside of the box, beyond the seemingly "random" atmosphere, you'll find that the show is, above all, a metaphor-filled coming-of-age story. There are quite a lot of of theories in various fansites, but if you just try to take everything as a metaphor, you'll find that it's MUCH more than just a "random" show.
Just try to ask yourself questions such as, what did Ninamori's robot resemble, and why did it react like that to having hot curry thrown into it? What were they implying by that? Remember the bit of Kitsurubami getting a nosebleed after taking a look at Naota's... guitar? What about Medical Mechanica's plan to "iron out the wrinkles" in people's brains? And that's just the icing on the cake.
Really, if you think about it, FLCL is, undoubtedly, more well-thought out than all those long-running series that people keep praising (and write god-awful yaoi fanfics of, but that's not the point). You just gotta think beyond the 'random' exterior and you'll find the deepest, most thought-provoking yet entertaining anime ever.
I found the artwork (especially the off-the wall animation) to be a little higher than your rating, but other than that this was a pretty accurate review, but I still enjoyed the series a little.
ok for real its amusing one of my favorites it deserves aleast a 8
