Plot Synopsis

Shiro Kamui has returned to Tokyo after 6 years, following the wish of his mother, and ultimately, his fate. It is 1999, and Kamui, gifted with psionic powers, has been foretold to either save the world, or to destroy it. The Seven Seals (Dragons of Heaven) wish to save humanity, while the Seven Angels (Dragons of Earth) wish to destroy humanity in order to save the physical Earth and cleanse it. Kamui must choose a side, but unbeknownst to him, his twin star awaits to serve whichever side will become his rival.

The world can only watch the destruction after the choice is made as time draws nearer to the Promised Day... and perhaps the Apocalypse.

Story & Characters

The story of X TV revolves around Kamui Shiro, a 16 year old boy who is doomed to decide about the fate of the world. The series start with Kamui coming back to Tokyo because his dying mother told him so. During the first episodes he meets several people who are involved in the end of the world and they all tell him that he is the chosen One. He is informed about the Dragon of Heaven, who want to protect the human race and the Dragons of Earth, who want to destroy mankind so that the Earth has the possibility to regenerate itself. Kamui now must decide which group he will join but he is not interrested. Instead he is worried about his childhood friends Fuma and Kotori. It later turns out that both of them are also involved in the end of the world (unknown of both of them) and that Fuma is Kamui’s twin star: that meens he is the person who will take the place which Kamui didn’t choose. Because Kamui later chooses to become a Dragon of Heaven Fuma awakens as the Kamui of the Dragons of Earth and kills his own sister Kotori. Now the war between the two factions start and Kamui must fight against his best friend.

Art

The anime is very well drawn: The colours are strong and very dark (which fits the tone of the series). Also you can see many details like the city which is often seen from above. Other than the movie the series also uses computer graphic which is very good in terms of the feathers which often fly through the picture. Also if you read the manga you will recognise the characters nearly immedeately. In my opinion the anime is one of the best drawn series ever and the drawing stile really fits the tone of the series and its dark story.

Sound

The music of the anime is like the drawing stile very good and it fits the tone of the series. There are many good background tracks which are often heared throughout the series and the most favourite of them all seems to be “Sadame which can be heared in nearly every episode, which isn’t quite bad because it’s a good song. The opening isn’t really special but it is also enjoyable. The voices of the characters fit them very good (if someone watched the movie you will recognice that they changed for the series) especially Fuma’s voice is excellent.

Presentation

All in all the anime is one of my favourite animes and thanks to the large amout of characters and the fantastic story it’s also very interresting and enjoyable. What is also very good is the fact that you get many informations about the characters (background, their reason to fight, etc.) throughout the series and although Kamui and Fuma are the main characters all other characters get their good moments in the series. Also the story is interresting presented and you don’t know how it will end or what will happen to the characters. One of the drawbacks however is the fact that during the first part of the series they focus strongly on the characters and so the second half seems sometimes a bit too rushed, especially the last four episodes. The ending of the series is in my opinion another good part of the series because it brings the conflict to a more or less positiv end and you get to know what happens to the characters. If you watched the movie and didn’t like it the series is a welcome change because the ending is far more positiv although a bit sad.
