The Legend of Zelda tv Review

Three goddesses created the land of Hyrule. When Ganondorf, King of the Gerudo Thieves and one of the Wielders of the Triforce tries to take over Hyrule the two other Triforce Wielders try to stop him. One of the Triforce Wielders is the Princess of Hyrule. The other is Link, the Hero of Time.

Link must find items that are relevant to his quest to go through the terrible dungeons that the evil Ganondorf has made. Only Link and Zelda can save Hyrule.

Story & Characters

Zelda games have always been based around the simplest of plots: Princess gets captured by an evil overlord and you must rescue her. Sure, nothing special here, but it's oh too easy to be engrossed in an Zelda game. It's hard to describe, but you always feel as if you NEED to save Zelda. It's not just a want, it's a duty. Add to this the sub plots, like the idea of the Sages, the Triforce, the history of the various and it's oh too interesting. For example, in Ocarina of Time you must travel to 6 temples to obtain the Sage from each. This then means you can go on to form Ganondorf. Some of the Sages are pretty funny too, Ruto has morbid infatuation with Link and wants to marry him, much to Link's dismay. On the other hand, Link is like many of Nintendo's characters: the most important yet the most boring and least developed. We don't hear much about Link, and the lack of dialogue means we don't really see any kind of development, although this is of little matter, since the rest of the game is so darn awesome.

Art

Well, well, well. What do we have here? Well we have one of the greatest looking games of all time. Lets ignore the 2D games for now. First of all lets look at OOT (Ocarina of Time). At it's time, this was the most impressive looking game ever, and even today it holds its head up high as a game with outstanding atmosphere. The wide varieties of areas, enemies and bosses are a treat for the eyes, despite the lack of Hi Res textures. Next we Have Majoras Mask. This takes everything from OOT and improved on it vastly. The graphics were crisp, clear and gorgeous. And finally we have The Wind Waker. Despite the controversy over the cel shading, those who played it mostly agree it looks fantastic. The cel shading is just like an incredibly well done cartoon or Disney film and everything just looks so great.

Sound

Sound is another prominent feature in Zelda. The soundtracks, like most Nintendo games, are memorable, simple and great to listen to. Things like Zelda Lullaby are some of the greatest tunes of all time, and the wide array of remixes for them give an indication of their quality. The Wind Wakers orchestration in particular is fantastic especially for the Great Sea music. The sound effects are also always great, although they can be a little bland. It should also be pointed out that none of the games include speech. It is all done by text. I myself actually find this is quite good. A game like Zelda doesn't need speech and these funny looking characters might sound a little odd, and as we all know, dubs can be awful.

Presentation

Typically, all Nintendo games have one thing in common: a perfect difficulty. Zelda is just like the rest, the difficulty is beautifully curved, but sometimes a little too easy. Nevertheless it is mostly perfect for any player. The replayability is great too, there are many many sidequests to do and they're all fun to play or do. These reward you with Heart pieces, or upgrades to your arsenal such as a bigger bomb bag, making these sidequests and enticing opportunity to improve Link. Zelda is also always fun to play! Never will you feel annoyed, or feel the game somehow cheated you. If you mess up it's always to do with you, not the game. The difficulty level helps to make this so. By the time you get to the end you'll be sad it's all over, but then you just play it again, and have all the fun repeated. Overall Zelda, is without a shadow of a doubt the most impressive gamign series of all time. The games feature everything you could want from an adventure game, and most importanty, offers the most amount of fun you can have on a Games Console. If you haven't had the chance to play a Zelda game, make it your top priority. You'll thank me for it.
