Story & Characters

The story is complicated and takes a while to get into, but once you do it is really rather intriguing... The characters are complex and not a single one is like any other character before it... The main character (Daisuke Niwa) finds one day that when he sees his crush, who has turned him down repeatedly, Risa, he turns into an outgoing, obnoxios art theif (Dark). And only turns back when Dark sees the girl he likes...Riku, who is Risa's completely opposite sister... a very complicated love triangle or in this case square. Daisuke now knowing that Risa actually likes his other self, Dark, his intrests take an unexpected turn and he falls in love with Riku, while Risa hunts for Dark in every spare moment she has. During all this, Dark is hunted by a mysterious student and friend of Daisuke, Satoshi... Satoshi keeps to himself because if he shows any emotion he turns into an evil, opposite of Dark...Krad.... They go through all kinds of adventures, that keeps them all on edge with one another, and Satoshi is always inches away from catching Dark yet he still cant. Daisuke and Satoshi never have a relaxed moment around eachother and that's how I like it.

Art

The anime (like many before it) differs from the original manga, though it is very good. The art is similar to that of the book as it should be... It shows some things the book doesn't... The characters are diverse and are drawn well. Daisuke ended up with freakishly bright red hair that I honestly didn't see him having, it also freaked me out that Satoshi had blue hair (not normal). I had thought of him more as a blonde. The shading and colors seem just right. The skin color isn't to bright or dark, which is nice and it goes well with the location. Speaking of Location, I liked how the anime changed the city so it was more unique. Some characters are introduced in the anime that weren't in the original manga and vice versa, but over all the art is okay... not the best but it is entertaining.

Sound

The voices honestly weren't what I expected... the twins voices are very high, though I thought that Daisuke and Satoshi's voices were well picked and fit very well. I don't know who did Daisuke's voice, but Greg Ayers (forgive my spelling) is pretty famous, he has done a lot of character and he has quite a bit of skill. (Chrno Crusade) When they do scenes or even chapters from the book, the wording keeps pretty close to that of the Manga. The sound was a factor that probably took a long time and they chose well.

Presentation

Originality for the plot line in the anime/manga of D N Angel was extrodanary, I had seen nothing like it. The characters had there own quirks and abilities, everyone was their own character... Everyone was original. it has a few funny moments but overall it was a romantic/fantacy novel, so it had its moments... I have laughed when I wathced if you know what I mean. It was overall entertaining to watch, though it's differences from the manga bothered me a little. though i was surprised that the characters were quite similar to that of the Manga and that was good. I 've seen some anime that has completely botched characters from their original context. I believe the things they changed they changed for good reasons, such as the layout of the city. They made it very different than the city in the Manga, another way that it is unique. Anyone could sit down and watch this show until a parent or friend, or even a strong motive told them to stop.... Its endings keep you craving more and that is something that is smiled upon in an anime.

The DnAngel anime seems very far off from the original manga. Ive only seen the first 8 or so episodes and practically nothing that happens in the manga doesnt happen in the anime. Its really just a bunch of random things going on. And for some weird reason i think the anime takes place some where in Europe like Italy or something its kinda weird. Overall i really enjoy DnAngel but not so much the anime...

Well, you're only reviewing the English side of D.N.Angel in terms of the sound of the show. I admit that the voices of the girl's voice were high pitch, but in the Japanese audio version, I would probably rate it higher than 5/10. As for the art, I thought it was pretty good even though it is almost similar to that in both in the anime and manga. As for the overall rating, I would give the rating higher than your rating.

i didn't watch the anime but i really like the manga. i don't like dubbed versions of anything, just japanese audio and english subtitles.

NO. Seriously. D.N.Angel deserves a better rating. In all catagories! Including the overall rate.

Quote by DarkyNO. Seriously. D.N.Angel deserves a better rating. In all catagories! Including the overall rate.

Have to agree with you. The art is much better. Satoshi does look good in blue hair and Niwa in his red hair. Even the manga did picked the same colour if you realize.

Another point to note, state whether u're reviewing on the dub one instead of the original

I think DNAngel deserves a better rating. The characters are interesting, the artwork is fantastic, and while I didn't like the twins voices in the dubbed version, the music is undoubtably some of the best I've ever heard from an anime. Plus Dark is hot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(...)

Dnangel anime gets really good about episode 16 or so.
I usually don't judge anime on the first 10 or so episodes.

i like this show alot i dont see why you gave it such a poor rating

  16. shindo-kun May 14, 2006

I'd have to agree with your review... it didn't give justice to the beautiful manga. I found the twins more annoying in the anime which made me drop the show all-together.

Stupid Satoshi-Risa hints in the ending ruined it for me as well.
