Get Backers

Get Backers tv Review

Story & Characters

Dakkanya GetBackers is the story of the duo of Midou Ban and Amano Ginji. They get back anything stolen and guarantees a 100% success rate. They are retrieval experts by trade and very skilled fighters at heart. Case are reported to them by clients or by their agent. It is during this mission that they end up mixing it out with various hindrances and enemies. To combat this obstacles, Midou Ban has the power of Aesculapius the Serpent Holder which utilizes his 200 kg (440 lbs) gripping power to subdue enemies. Plus he has the Curse of the Evil Eye which enables him to make anyone who looks at his eyes hallucinate for an exact minute (60 sec) hence his nickname Otoko no Jagan (Man with the Evil Eye). Amano Ginji, known as Raitei in the Mugenjou area, has the power of lightning and electricity in his side along with the tenacity of a cat. He was a former leader of the Volts. As the story progresses, more difficult missions are given to them requiring the aid of other retrieval and delivery specialists.

Overall the story is great, packed with lots action and a twisted tale of loyalty, trust and betrayal. Too much twists and unnecessary events hinder GetBackers and will only confuse viewers with narrow comprehension.

Art

Both the anime and manga deliver pretty good character design. The anime features very visually pleasing colors. Character presentation via their choice of attire is awesome too, though the idea still hurts that they re-use their clothes over and over again. Fight scenes are well-rendered highlighting the center of attention when its needed the most. Details are fairly well done with the background not getting cut-off from the attention as most of the comedy happens there. Character transitions from a serious look to a more entertaining look is very pleasing mainly Ginji and his Tare Panda parody.

Art is one of the strong point of this anime boasting a nice array of colorful eye candy for everyone. Beware of the fanservice known as HEVN.

Rating: 10

Sound

Dakkanya GetBackers' soundtracks features the best of what an anime has to offer in terms of sound. The opening and ending themes are listeners' choice and are very interesting. Artists like the great Otoha, Bon Bon Blanco and Pierrot have all contributed to make this anime a listening experience for the viewer. Plot-wise, the sound effects are very engrossing and gives the viewer a feeling of involvement. Character BGMs are finely suited to their respective characters, emanating their aura via the music alone.

Overall, a very good experience for the human auditory organ.

Presentation

The presentation is very well thought-of and cleanly laid out. The idea is not new but GetBackers lived up to its expectations and made the genre a little better. The transition from easy missions to much more difficult ones are clearly highlighted. The humour is instilled into each character making them very lovable in their own way. Viewers will be fighting over which character is the best. The viewing experience will make anyone tune-in up until the end. The fight scenes are very fast-paced and will appeal to action fans very much.

Overall presentation is very good. The humour is great. There is no lack of action. This anime will make you love anime even more. Very good transition from manga to TV series. An attempt that didn't fail. Good job to the creators.

The downside: Most male fans would not approve of the man to man relationship that the anime exudes in one way or another.Fanservice is not too much of an issue, having only one character to blame for all that ecchi stuff. But this is a must buy, a legend in its own right.

Nice review! I also love GetBackers. It is a good anime but what made it most enjoyable was that I saw every episode together with my girlfriend. We laughed a lot and she really loves chibi-ginji. I just recently saw the manga and although the style is a little different the story is mainly the same for the most part. I recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it yet.

Nice review! Great review! I agree all of them! The story, the music, the Jappaneese dubbing, the humor, the artwork, & the presentation are all great! Get Backers has been chosen to be given a high rank! And I also agree that Hevn is somekind of..."that". I also agree with Akaiken, the English dubbing on Animax sucks! So I watch it in Jappaneese version, eventough I have to read the subtitles.. And,, Get Backers is my top number 1 favorite anime! Go Ban! Go Ginji! *cheering*

Character design= AWSOME! Ban's hot, Akabane's hot... Action, and a bit of shounen-ai... that's why I like Dakkanya!
And also the OST is goooood! I'm just waiting for the OVAs, if TBS ever make them!

    Th eternal problem...

At first I saw this series and I thought it was good; that was up until the first saga was over; after that it just became filler after filler and even tough so where funny, one can't live just of that unless getbackers is presented to us as a comedy which is not the case. Getbackers had a plot which was put aside and it ended with a really weak ending. Sure it was so, so, but after reading what's going on in the manga I feel ripped. So good turns of events where completely ignored and ok...the story is not even over on Japan but still...they should have ended the series with the makubex arc, then start up with an ova or something for what followed when they could =_=

Because I'm such an English buff, again the grammatical issues stick out the most. You used things like "To combat this obstacles" and "Case are reported" which although small in the overall picture prove distracting to someone like myself. Also even though it is hard, try to be a bit more descriptive in each section. When I see a '10' I want to feel that '10' with good reasoning and emotion behind it as to why you saw it as such. Just my two cents.
