Story & Characters

DragonBall Z is the anime that continues 5 years from where DragonBall left off(the manga is one, though). Son Goku has married to ChiChi and they also got a 4 year old son, Son Gohan. Then suddenly, a guy from outer space arrives. He's looking for someone called 'Kakarotto'. Piccolo, Goku's enemy from DragonBall faces him and his truly scared for his great power. The person, who appears to be Goku's brother, wants Goku to come with him. Goku refuses, and Raditz (the brother) kidnaps his son. If Goku doesn't kill 100 people, he will kill his son. This is where DragonBall Z starts. While DBZ continues, you meet a lot of enemies, a lot of people die and it's always a struggle with who will find all the dragonballs first. You've also get some unexpected romance devolepments, and a lot more.

DragonBall Z is a classic and a lot of animes from today are inspired by it. Like for example Naruto. If you haven't seen this anime, I can really recommened it! DBZ has a totall of 291 episodes, and unfortunatly a lot of fillers. To skip those, I suggest you read the manga.

Art

The drawing of DragonBall Z isn't bad, especially for his age. It keeps true to the drawing style in the manga. Sometimes the backgrounds are nice and details, like when they arrive on planet Namek. But not always. The character designs aren't that great, because Goku doesn't change a lot, except for transformations and stuff. However, you do see characters aging, which is a pretty rare site considering in some animes character don't even change clothes.

Sound

The sound is old. But at some specific moments, you hear a song which has been...sung. XP The songs are mostly by Kageyama Hironobu. DBZ has a lot of soundtracks, but most songs you'll never hear in the anime. In the dub a person called Bruce Faulconer does all the music. The music NEVER stops in the dub. It keeps on playing and playing. And seeing this music isn't as old as from the japanese version, people prefer this. I think the track called 'Goku's spirit bomb' was a good song. But I prefer the japanese music none the less, like Mind Power.

Presentation

DBZ is an anime that will be enjoyable for everyone. It has humour, ecchi (Muten Roshi moments), a lot of action, drama (like tough guys that suddenly become emotional XP) and a lot of gore and death. It also contains adventure, and stuff like traveling from the future to the past. A very creative and interesting anime, indeed. ^_^
