Plot Synopsis
Shuichi Shindou is the 19-year-old singer in his band Bad Luck. Work has been though, but Shuichi will do whatever it takes to become a great musician. One fateful night, the lyrics to his new song are blown in the wind. A popular romance novelist, Yuki Eiri, catches the lyrics and calls it trash.
Shuichi demands an apology after finding him the next day. One thing leads to another, and Shuichi finds himself madly in love with Yuki. Eiri tries to get Shuichi to leave him alone, but it doesn't seem to be working. Shindou is very persistent, but Yuki does not want to start another relationship and repeat the same mistake that happened long ago. Can the love between Shuichi and Yuki blossom, or will the two be seperated?

Story & Characters
It could have been a sappy story: a teenager falling in love with a famous novelist and trying to get said novelist to love him back. Well, it probably would have been a sappy story if the teenager wasn’t Shuichi Shindou and the novelist wasn’t Yuki Eiri.
Before I go further, let me warn the (few) people that don’t know about the shounen ai nature of this title: this is an anime about a boy in love with another man so, if you have a problem with this kind of anime… go ahead and watch it anyway, because Gravitation is one of those funny animes that should be watched despite its genre – and yes, I know of people that aren’t exactly fans of shounen ai and that love Gravitation still. And the two of them never do anything more than kissing, anyway. Ok, they actually do something more but they never show it at the show.
That being said, this series tells the (mis)adventures of Shuichi trying to get to Yuki, and Yuki deciding whether or not to go and let himself be loved by Shuichi – and this means a lot of humor, especially when Shuichi thinks that Yuki doesn’t like him because he’s a boy and is decided to… dress like a girl to please Yuki (and, trust me, Shuichi looks more like a girl when he’s in that school girl uniform than a lot of girls I’ve seen in other series), and a lot of drama when you discover about Yuki’s past.
The secret to the success of this anime is that it never takes itself too
seriously, and the sad scenes never last longer than they need to. The only real
bad thing about it is that 13 episodes just
isn’t enough to tell everything about
them, and the shows ends at its best part, leaving you with the urge to go and
read the manga to discover what happens after that.

Art
I’d give it a 10 just because of Yuki Eiri’s character design, but I’m trying to restrain my fangirl madness here, so I lowered it to a… 9. And I think it deserves it, because many shounen ai suffer of such a low budget that it’s pretty hard for them to hide that they were trying to cut expenses, but with Gravitation this doesn’t really happen… but, then again, if you like boys and they freeze the scene at Yuki for a little longer than they really needed to, it’s not like you’re gonna mind it. Really.
Oh, a warning for the boys that might watch this with girls around: this series may cause serious fangirl madness. Seriously. And don’t try to say that Yuki Eiri isn’t gorgeous – you will probably end up with a girl mad at you and even more fascinated by Yuki Eiri’s golden eyes.
Aside from Yuki Eiri, the other characters are nice, too, and each one has a
distinct character design. And the show is full of bright colors, and people
jumping and laughing everywhere… I
guess it deserves a 9. Although I’d
probably give it an 8 if Yuki didn’t
exist.

Sound
OK, the main character is the vocalist of a band, and a lot of the story is about him trying to become a famous singer… I mean, they couldn’t mess the songs up when it’s just so important for this kind of right of story, right? Right. And that’s why we ended up with one of the most upbeat OSTs of anime, where both the opening and ending songs are catchy, and I’m sure you will end up wanting to buy this OST, especially when you hear the songs of Bad Luck or Nittle Grasper…
And the voice acting is pretty good, too… they sure acted out their parts well! One of my favorites voices is Yuki Eiri’s, of course, and Ryuchi’s.
I mean, if you like happy, upbeat songs,
it’s hard not to like Shining Collection
and the other songs from the show… this
songs were made to be a success amongst its fans, and it certainly succeeds at
that.

Presentation
The score was a little bit hurt here because the basic premise isn’t really the most original thing you’ve ever heard, and it really sounds more like a Hollywood’s blockbuster’s synopsis than an anime, but it certainly evolves a lot from there, and in the later episodes you will see that there is more to the characters than meets the eyes.
Review? Well, I have a friend who re-watched all the episodes a few times already just for the sake of laughing and seeing Yuki Eiri again, so I guess fangirls will want to re-watch it more, but that doesn’t mean that boys that like to have a good laugh can’t re-watch it anytime they want.
It’s one of those animes that I recommend to my friends who say that they don’t like shounen ai, because there is certainly more here than just empty fanservice. And I recommend it to every friend of mine that likes shounen ai, too, of course.
Humor? Well, if you didn’t get the point already, let me state it again: this anime is hilarious. If you want an example… well, let’s just say that Shuichi’s idea of a good costume to go unseen is to dress up as a… battery. Yes. A Battery.
Perhaps I was really generous with my grades
here… perhaps I
didn’t manage to be as critical as I
wanted to be, but, hey, it’s just that I
really adore this anime, and the only true bad thing about it is that it ends
too soon.

Nah.... you weren't too generous about your grading... it's hard to review this anime without going into fangirl overdrive
Good review.... and yes, we all love Yuki. ^^
Shuichi dressed up in the schoolgirl outfit is an total classic. Schoolgirl outfits never looked so good ^^
The grading is reasonable. Gravitation is 95% comedy, the rest is shonen ai.
The review is understandable, nice work.
