Story & Characters

This is a story of a guy named Ash Ketchum or something like that and he is off to capture creatures known as pokemon in these balls that can carry the pokemon in them somehow. Ash just wanders towards leagues and collects badges as he battles gym leaders for them, Gym leaders are stronger than normal pokemon trainers. He meets some friends along his journey, one of his friends, well both of his friends are he's first 2 gym trainers he encounters, the first one is Brock, a rock pokemon trainer and the second gym leader is Misty a water pokemon trainer, he becomes friends with both of them and they go to other gym leaders and leagues and just battle battle and battle, he has some foes that seems to meet him randomly throughout the series, Team Rocket, they are the main bad dudes, but sometimes they can be good, and Gary he is just plain bad. Ash goes on a journey to become a pokemon master and get as many pokemon as he can. The story isnt that hot it is quite original, its just about a young boy trying to make his way to the top or be a pokemon master by using creatures known as pokemon to get there.

Art

The art in this anime series is so and so, i think it is nothing special, something you would see in most anime you see. The backrounds are nice but sometimes can be boring well they are mostly boring and plain, like trees, snow and everything else that goes with the action going on. The style isnt that special as well, the expressions and the emotions the characters expressions are good and they really go with the artwork. The pokemon were greatly created, there is all types of creatures/pokemon around, but after 250 pokemon the ones added i think look stupid, well thats just my opinion, i stopped watching this long ago. That is all i got for the artwork it is expectable.

Rating: 7

Sound

The sound(s) in this anime are quite good, the speech of the characters are translated and are dubbled good. The music that is played at the beggining and end is not bad, and the music during the anime fits the actions going on. The sound effects of the pokemon are also good, like whatever attacks the pokemon do the sound is nice it fits the attack and the effect. I do think this anime has a soundtrack, but i dont know if its good or not. I like some songs in this anime some are pretty good and addictive. Overall the sound and music in this game deserve a good rating, but not perfect.

Presentation

Hm, the originality, well its about a boy trying to be the best, using creatures to battle which are known as pokemon. I didnt find most parts of this anime funny but there were some moments that are quiete funny. If you are looking for really good humour this is not the anime for you, it is mostly about serious battles with pokemon but there are some areas which dont envolve battleing and envolve like them trying to help a pokemon or just about problems healing someone and everything else. This anime is so and so enjoyable, its average and its not special, if you are looking for just people interacting with echother and pokemon battles which are mostly boring, or maybe a guy trying to make his way to the top, you should at least just check this anime out. Mostly this anime isnt for everyone out there, i think this anime is for younger kids like under 15 or so, i think young kids really will do enjoy this anime, if they are looking for just action and battles. I found it boring after i watched it for about 2 years or so.

uhh Pokemon sucks to me I just can't stand the voice they picked for Ash it sounds like he has a cold >.< hmm but really I don't like the series it could have been better especially the art and the characters are ok but I just don't like the series too many episodes of nothing really just him walking around...ahhh needs help thats all I can say...

Yeah it is pretty boring, no wonder people grow out of it, its just boring battles.

I pretty much agree with your review, though I don't really watch the anime anymore or play the games do to the lack of substance the plot has currently. It almost feels like Ash/Satoshi forgot that he even had a goal in the first place. I don't think Pokemon was boring to begin with, I actually did enjoy watching all the first season episodes, and up to at least Orange Island. Lost interest by the time the new pokemon came by.

i agree with you on the art though, its not horrible, but it isn't the best. It average, yet it fits the average show. I actually like the japanese songs more, but the english ones are good to.

Meh I just stick with the movies now.

The whole series is so repetitive of EVERYTHING. Repetitive battles, repetitve sound of the Pokeman and repetitive ass-kicking of Team Rocket. It the same thing over, and over, and over, and over.

I don't really care what others say, it's a timeless classic to me. Maybe it's because I love animals very much.

    just a few comments but . . .

    1) how can you say the sound is "quite good" and give it a 6? ona scale of 1-10, 6 would be considered average. looking up, you gave the "so and so" art a 7 but the "quite good" sound a 6 . . .that makes no sense.
    2) the show isn't about Ash, its about the relationships he has during his journey. His companions join him for their own reason and all the characters actually have episodes totally devoted to their history giving everyone a purpose and a story of their own.

Something I think that is missing from the review is that like many other anime based on a game, the people who play the game have a much closer relationship and understanding of what the anime and characters are about.

The anime is repetative yes . . . but there are certain episodes that make up for that. Is it a 10 . . . no . . . but I think you're underrating it.

there's no possible way to rate pokemon any higher than this. always the same thing, nearly, just different creatures and a new scene to defeat. even the movies seem to be similar in style. good review.
