Story & Characters

The first 5 episodes doesn’t really reflect the rest of the series that great, they are too cliché and all too childish. Don’t stop watching because of them though.
The rest of the series is filled with action packed scenes, and are much more advanced plot wise and it will actually require some effort to understand fully, it’s also enough comedy to make it a light series without actually calling it a comedy.
It was perhaps a tad of American series in it, but not in any bad way.

I really love the composition of the series, most of it is pretty light with some funny jokes and witty comments (yeah, I like that, so what?!) , while it also has a dark side with more psychological stuff and there’s a lot of powerful moments in this anime as well.

Many claim that this series is only about fan service, okay, the clothes might seem funny, but to say that it’s much is just strange… Yes, it’s the usual deal but most of the fan service (90% by my measures) is in the drawings they have before and after the commercial brakes…
I might have misunderstood the concept (?), but I am actually quiet bothered by panty shots, meaningless scenes etc, but as long as there is something else to focus on (the scene as whole wasn’t made for the purpose of fan service) I ain't bothered.

The only thing that bothered me was that they fail to explain what I’m used to get explained - either by giving the puzzle pieces or by saying it - , they won’t even give you a hint on what kind of plot twists they might do (might be good in a sense, but it feels a bit "oops how will we make that happen?" and then they did it without having told anything about it in beforehand, feels like they weren’t finished with the story when they started producing the anime).
I guess by drawing conclusions and dig yourself deeper into the story you can make sense out of it, they putted it in there, so they must have some thought behind it.

I will comment on the fan subs since I watched this series with fan subs...

Art

The animation is great very good, a bit sugar sweet for some maybe, but not for me. It is absolutely stunning and will make you just pause and watch the characters…
They have used Pans & Scans in some crucial scenes though which was very degrading on an otherwise great animation.
CG effects are used some throughout the series, but it's only making the animation better...
The space battles are also well exectued and is almost in the same class as Cowboy Bebop, not too bad for a generally underrated anime...

Rating: 8

Sound

The sound is good, and despite what people say that the music doesn’t get stuck, it does, the intro is still running through my head, the ED is perhaps not that good, but it's not like it's worse than the average anime ED's.
The music in the series was a bit repetitive, and it became noticeable, didn’t annoy me much though.
The soud effects are also well directed, nothing much to comment on there except that it's sounds in space! Would be boring otherwise and they wouldn't stick to the anime codex if there weren't, but still...

Presentation

You might get bothered by the fact that the names of most of the characters are taken from European languages, it is however to give the characters an exotic touch and I found it rather entertaining and not bothering at all since the names actually connects with the characters, not like in Sorcerer Hunters where they have names of food.

Donnerschlag (thunder in German), it’s their own "little" robot that takes care of them (the fan subbers failed to understand that it actually was German so they wrote something really funny like Doneslaque, but it gets corrected later).
Eclair is the name of the main character; it means Lightning/Flash in French.
Also the name of her partner Lumiere is French, it means Light.

What might also confuse you is that they call the upper class (in the fan subs) "Nobles" but later in the series they start calling it "Nouvlesse" (it’s french and it confused me at first, but it is what they say in the anime), it’s the same thing, they just changed it because one of the episodes is called Nouvlesse. :)

Despite having so much bad to say about this series, it’s absolutely one of my favourites and I would like to give it top grades just because of that, now I didn’t because the parts you can grade wasn’t completely perfect, but it the series makes it up by being solidly great! This is a must see for everyone. Well, perhaps not everyone seeing as there are those anal persons that won’t look past any flaw, but anyway.

This one is good anime to watch...well almost if it's not ruined by average plot/storyline and a bit out of place fan service, actually it's more like japanese version of typical superheroes story especially with the exotic and showy dress, hight tech ships and equipment, anti crime organization, a typical superheroes villain, and of course...the plot.

I'll give it a 7 overall, actually I intend to give it 6.5 but it has good animation and characters drawing.

hmm, i have the 1st 16 episodes but only watched like the first 6... i dunno, never really got into it. it seems the art is really great but the humor and everything else doesn't seem like it deserves such animation.
