Plot Synopsis

Tokyo has sunk into the ocean! Most of the world was submerged during a land subsidence. Aika Sumeragi is a salvager who works a small company run by a father and daughter duo. Unfortunately the company isn't successful and money is needed desperately. Therefore Aika accepts the dangerous job of acquiring an artifact called Lagu for a hefty sum. The boss' daughter Aida Rion joins Aika on the mission, and the two set off. The two are captured by Rudolf Hagen; an effeminate but over-sexed man who commands a huge battleship manned exclusively by droves of cute girls in mini-skirts and wants Lagu & Aika (and just about every pretty girl) for himself. Alongside Hargen is his obssessive sister Nena, who is jealous of Aika. There is also another salvager named Gusto, who's also after Lagu and who has a crush on Aika. Aika has a special bustier which, when activated, transforms her into a "superwoman" who can take on whole armies by herself.asinine.

Story & Characters

If anything can be described in one word Agent Aika would be Panty. The amount of fan service is almost smothering to the point where it can become old and rather boring after a while. Which is why they did their best to work out a sutible story to cover their cinematography. The story involves as much fetish-like styles that can be gotten away with while still appealing to a wide auidence. What the characters lack are personality and history. Rather they are combined into dry roles such as the obsessive friend and cool secret agent. So long as you do not care for too simple a plot try Aika. Overall, this is sexy and kooky enough to be a worthwhile purchase with plenty of good set-piece scenes to boost its replay value. Whether you like it or not isn't going to be down to how easily you're offended. Most anime fans, whether they be male or female, accept that fan service, in varying degrees, is pretty much always going to be part of the deal. The deciding factor is going to be your overall expectations of the whole thing.

Art

While I will try my best to talk about the art besides the fan service given there is not that much else to the art. The art is well above average and cleanly and crisply executed. Colours are good and well chosen.The style granted is clean and to the point but could have had more detail. The detail lost though is to better produce the animation nessessary to pass off for a cartoon. The enviroment itself lacks the attention to deail that the characters were given but at least it could have been worse. You're certainly not going to be buying this for just the story. You buy it for the whole package.

Sound

With a very upbeat introduction and enough electric guitar work to keep the whole thing moving along nice and slickly. Unlike a lot of anime titles, it actually added to the feel of the whole work, rather than just plodding along with it. Audio is almost forgotten in the animation using only the basics in cut and past sound effects as well as horrible dubbing. The original sound track itself is not all that special and could have been improved. Some times a voice actor did manage to miss the mark in a few places, and there were a couple of occasions where they really didn't match the emotion of the character's visuals.

Presentation

If Aika could be described as original, it only would be to a point as it heavily takes from the perverted imaginations of anyone and everyone who has seen a James Bond movie and wondered what it would look like if done in Anime. This was done only to stretch what could have been half an hour of fan service into far too much. It was enjoyable for as long as someone with attention deficit disorder could stand to sit still. The imagery far outweighed everything else only to be brought up behind by the story and finally the sound. The best I can offer is bargin bin pricing and a few hours to kill will be the only real reason to watch what I lovingly describe as James Bond gone Ecchi. Basically, for what it does, it does it exceptionally well. There's no doubting that. It's patently obvious that the single reason for these extra episodes was to be as outrageous and as gratuitous as possible. The sheer audacity of the Aika series in general and, in particular, the last three episodes is breathtaking. Mix it all together and what do you get? Panties.
