Plot Synopsis
Candidate for Goddess is set in the year 4048, over one thousand years since the Crisis of Systems, which resulted in the destruction of four planetary systems, leaving only a single inhabitable planet, Zion. Mankind is forced to live in space colonies, since that one planet is constantly being invaded by alien life forms that have come to be known as Victim. To stop the aliens and protect Zion mankind has developed five astronomical humanoid weapons, Ingrids, also known as Goddesses. At the G.O.A. (Goddess Operation Academy), young men from colonies are trained to pilot the Goddesses and are partnered with Repairers, whose sole job is to provide assistance to the pilots and maintain the vessels they pilot. Each of the pilots require a blood-type of EO have a special power called EX, which varies from pilot to pilot. The time that a child can control a Goddess is limited and replacements have to be found after a moderate length of time.

Story & Characters
This was the first anime that i was introduced to, surprisingly went down
well...
got me hooked on anime from the first episode on.
(okay..well is you miscount all the dragonball z, sailormoon etc. things i used
to watch when i was a little...)
the story, i've been told doesn't rely too heavily on the manga. it changes some
aspects to the story, but otherwise story is still compelling.
you've got a bit of everything thrown in the mix. futuristic end of the world.
and an unknown reason for fighting. a cool and mysterious character (hied gner)
a geeky character (clay). a gay relationship thing going on (ernest and gareas).
some really cool mechs... 5 in total - point of this story is that these pilots
wnat to fly these 'goddesses' to fight the 'victims (aliens)' , there is a very
old young pilot who is mystery incarnate (teela), some sexual undertones between
characters. some a bit too weird... unrequited love. a cat-girl 'kizna. a lost
main character searching for something (zero), + stunning graphics...
watch and you will see.
too bad, that is doesn't continue...
so unfulfilling in a way

Art
the graphics remain consistent...
until you reach the OVA, where it is more sharp. and bit lacking in emotion, if
it can carry that appeal that is. well actually, thinking back. it matched the
atmosphere of what was going on. it was all really sad. involves death, but then
it involved the whole love thing. okay, so didn't really match.
anyway...stopping the rambling...
in general i can just say that it is brilliant. from the bg, to characters to
the placing and styling of a scene..its just
grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreaaaaaaaaaaaaattttttttttttt!!!!!!!!!!!
its what first got me loving anime. the way it was drawn and presented...
i loved the style of it all..

Sound
i watched the original...with subtitles...
the voices matched. wasn't too macho, too girly and too geeky, too high or too
low for the characters that were placed with those voices. just right.
from the tough bad boy exterior of hied gner to the shy repairer of his,
ikhny..
then you have some fun characters who carry that light hearted tone to their
voice..candidate #88, zero and his repairer kizna...but as always, they change
accordingly to the situation. fighting like a married couple/brother sister
like... then the lost i don't know what to do kind a voice..
the music..fitted...actualyl hearing it in my head now. so much tension...then
the romantic appeal too..

Presentation
originality: well..i'd have to say, i could never come up with this kinda thing,
and i thought it was the most original storyline when i first watched it. now
come to think of it, its not all THAT original. it has everything thrown in.
such as a bit of gundam...(ish)... neo genesis evangelion... and others too. so
in a way it is, but not. basically, these candidates want to become pilots to
these five goddesses..they all have this special ability/substance in
them...EX... and they're fighting 'victim' and protecting Zion from them. non
one knows for sure apart from a few characters it seems.. and theres a conpiracy
that lurks int he story too... okay, so a pretty good originality...
humour: is good.the interaction between the two male and female leads.. (zero
and kizna)thats quite cute and funny....and then you've got roose...he's funny,
only because of his weight loss and the shush shush secret to it...
and of course the teacher too...his laid back attitude and then a very stressed
one...(azuma hijikata)
enjoyability: i sat through the whole thing in one sitting. do you think i
enjoyed it!?

i like this anime because teela is really cute. but the ending is not good. I think it have a continuation... well im looking forward to the 2nd season if ever there is.... thanks for sharing this review... keep up the good work
yep same...to the looking forward to the 2nd season... i really hope they do another one! but it has been a long time now... if it doesn't, then i'll just have to read the manga...*sigh* The Myths..not curriculum as in the anime...
kinda reminded me of evangelion... but oh well... its by the same maker of dnangel so no complaints there... anyway.. i enjoyed this anime very much n i luved the theme song... so thats all i can say...
Well, the story was stolen from Evangelion and it was even executed very badly. The characters were crappy too and every episode I wished Zero would die brutally. Well, the only enjoyment was that the whole show seemed so ridiculous.
Story: 2/10
Art: 4/10 (the worst 3D CGI ever)
i don't think the story was stolen from evangelion. candidate for goddess have a different storyline, at least they didin't want Zion to destroy. the character is good, like Teela, Kizna, Zero and Hiead.
I hope the anime still contionue, i will wait until the 2nd stage
still waiting for 2nd stage..will they ever make it?
and agreed...not completely stolen from evangelion....hints to the same ideas, but don;t most animes have some kind of storyline/quality that is shared with another anime....
nice art. nice sound, quite sad.
that make me like it.
I like everything of this anime
The characters, the art, the music,..everything!...
No matter somethings about the story or the design are not so original...this anime is great
I liked the few episodes I saw and I own all five volumes (manga) released in the U.S.
this anime really drew me in from day one...but something happened it just stopped making them...very rude of them in my opinion
