Story & Characters

"The Last love song on this little planet"`s story is placed in the near future, where a war takes place in japan.
The story itself is VERY tragic so i don`t recommend that Anime if you are very emotional. The plot can be found boring for some people, however you must want to understand what`s happening on the screen. The subject of the serie are emotions, which is very complicated itself. You can see, that one word sayed again and again can have a totally other meaning. And some points are added for the un-predictable ending. The same endings sure are boring... Plus it has a moral, very very nice one. The anime also shows the very fragile bond between a boy and a girl, and how the bond can be cut and tied up again, stronger then ever.
Now I want to ask You something. Do You think that, love is more valuable then friendship? If you will watch “Saikano”, I think that You will change your opinion…
Summary :
That`s not a happy anime/manga. I don`t recommend this title for very emotional people!
Not for kids. Very complicated plot and some moments are boring.
Moral.
If you like emotional movies go watch it!

Art

The art is a little simplified, however the detail is high and its very pretty. Backgrounds, Objects, People, everything is so realistic. The colors which are used, are not happy ones. I had a feeling that everything is gray… not happy… everything passes away. They build a climate of war, which is not a happy event. However i don’t like the red under eyes of every human-being in this anime. I am used to, that the red under eyes means that the person is shy... and in this anime everything has this “shy” effect on his face, and when someone is shy its even more red. I can only presume that the red color means that the person Is alive..
Summary:
Very nice art there.
Good design of the characters.
Properly used colors. ( Only the red under those eyes...)

Sound

The SFX are very good. VERY. The explosions, the engine sounds, and the sounds of weapons. I think that those sound effects are one of the best I ever heard. In some productions SFX where killing my brain… Japanese dubbing (if that’s Japanese I am going crazy ~~) is in fact very good, but I don’t like how Shuuji says Baka, don’t know why^^;. .. only the OST is the problem. Some songs are okay but I really don’t like the outro and the opening song :/

Summary:
OST is a bit ... bad. Everything else is fine

Presentation

That’s a very original Anime. I was enjoying the anime from ... the second episode. From the beginning it was very complicated and the presentation itself was difficult. You must just get used to it ( especially to the narrator - it isn’t much used these days ). I must add points for the presentation of sex (16+), which is very delicate, natural, and not violent like it is in real life. Then the presentation of war and High School problems. You can say that the whole anime is very natural. And the point of view on love is different then usual. You will spend some time trying to think about the main characters… There is little humor… but there is! Don’t panic, some moments will be cheerful..
I found many symbols across the anime. And I think that the whole anime can be found as a symbol. But I won’t tell what symbol, I will leave this to You!

I think that the anime was made just as it was mend to be. I don’t imagine this production to be presented in any other way. Saikano will give you an experience you will never forget!

Yeah thanks for the nice review for a fantastic anime, but : I think like ppl above that the OST has great songs and the OP and ED theme songs match the show perfectly. About the graphics, you didn't speak about the CGs which are very well integrated. You also didn't speak of the manga which I recommand to everyone who liked the anime and which art is even better and overall a bit more adult. Original story by Shin Takahashi, anime by Gonzo.
    Sorry I complain a bit, it's because I'm a fan of Saikano ^^.
Btw, a two part OVA of Saikano and a live-action are sheduled for 2005 :) .
