Story & Characters

In a world where psychic powers are beginning to be understood, a young boy named Ai Shiomi has been enrolled in an elite academy to learn more about his growing power. It doesn't help that his elder brother, a world-renouned psychic himself with the title of 'Vanquisher of the Dark Overlord' - Zerodyme, is also teaching at the very same Academy.
Luckily his childhood sweetheart Orina is also at the Academy and very eager to welcome Ai with open arms and perhaps a wish for even more than frienship with Ai... Even so, why does he keep thinking of her powerful, mysterious roommate Mew whenever he's with Orina? He'd also like to know why does he happen to have a 100% aura compatability with Mew, who's also very confused as to why her thoughts can suddenly turn to Ai on a whim and he with her as well. With feelings for both girls growing stronger by the day, Ai will have to make a choice between the two, but will it be the right one?
To top it all off, his brother insists on embarrassing him at the school, calling out to him, showing perfect strangers his baby photos and things like that. With all this new attention, now all the school bullies want a piece of the legend's little brother to see what he can do. What's a guy to do?

Art

For a recent anime, the art could have been better but that's what happens when you work with a fairly weak budget. Still it's not an eyesore and the art is still very decent aside from the numerous eechi shots that the animators gave us. There are some computer animated parts in the story when aura fights occur but the computer work stands out a bit too much against the rest of the animation. The effects aren't bad in themselves but they have a 'rushed' look to them that may detract from enjoying visuals. I do have to say as a good point that the animations for the facial features are very good in that they portray the character's emotions pretty good.

Sound

Vocals are done in Japanese only and the voices seem to match up very well with the characters as they express emotions and such.

Opening song - The song 'Stay Over' is sung by the two voice actors for the two main character girls - Orina and Mew. Since this is a romantic anime, the song does fit in with the anime feel. Sung by two girls, it gives the allusion of both of them singing to the same man, in this case, it's Ai Shiomi, the main lead.

The BG isn't one for standing out much but it does have good points in that it kicks in at the appropiate times and the music isn't distracting in anyway.

Presentation

Since the episode lengths are extremely short (Barely ten minutes each), watching all 24 episodes in one shot is not a daunting task at all. They could have fit a lot more in if the episode lengths were made 15 minutes each and have gotten much more story and character dynamics. Also this series can be considered an ecchi since there's nearly 3 instances of panty shots, breast shots, etc, etc in every episode. It detracts from the anime as a whole since we don't have a lot of time to be oggling to begin with but hey, who doesn't like to oggle every now and then?
The dynamics between Ai, Orina, and Myuu are enjoyable. Not too deep or laden with angtsy teen stuff that some other shows like to have, but just three friends who like each other but are still trying to find out the exact relation between each other with the hint of something much more that rests on whatever decision comes out from these three.

If this was redone with 15 minutes for the episodes and more attention dealt to blending the computer animation with the cell animation, it would be a lot better, in my opinion.

The manga of Psychic Academy was pretty good but I was extremely let down by the anime. Not so much by the art, but the 10min episodes really worked my nerves. Had they stayed with the standard 30min episodes, it would have faired better in my book. I'd give it a low "C".

i liked what manga of it i have read so far it was the first manga i started reading and now i own about 40 mangas and i think that psychic academy is still the best i have read.
