King of Fighters tv Review

Story & Characters

The story of King Of Fighters is brilliant with new contenders in the circuit every year. The main character, Kyo, is the main contender in all KOF, using his family style,Kusanagi Martial Arts which has the symbol of the sun. About everybody in KOF has a rival, Kyo's being Iori Yagami who has the destructive Orochi power and has the symbol of a cresent moon. Each year they meet at KOF to show of the new skills they have learned and to ultimately prove who the best is. But some don't fight for glory and praise, some fight for revenge, to learn secrets, crime and also love. Fighting for crime and power is where the bosses come in, in King Of Fighters. This is also where the storys of other fighters in the game come in also. Characters may have had a family member killed by the boss either in the tournament or in the outside world and therefore want to avenge the death. A character may even just want to accept a challenge so that they become mor popular, some may even just fight to promote a Music release.

Art

The art work in King Of Fighters does not look appealing up close or in pictures, but when in action it boasts of power and brilliance. The sound effects adds a lot to the wild combos the characters perform. The main downfall is that the game in screenshots sometimes look 3d but are actually 2d with animation that occasionally looks chunky and wrong. Sometimes there are galleries which show all the characters in there cool unique poses, some hand drawn, some done digitaly which both looking very realistic but with a certain essence of anime.

Sound

The characters, or teams all have their own theme tune, usually rock music. The music always seems to go with the characters personallity, or with the fight itself. You may be in a furious bout and the background music will go with the pace of the fight. Unfortunately the quality is not very good. The music may sound muffled at times and the music usually loops fast sometimes leaving an unwanted scilence during the fight which I find a bit annoying. No worries though this problem may only be in my version of the game.

Presentation

I find the game quite original though you will find those who bad mouth it saying "it's just a copy of Street Fighter". In my opinion Street Fighter does not compare with the creative styles and mad combinations of the characters in King Of Fighters. KOF was likely influenced by Street Fighter though. The way some characters interact at the begining of a fight can tell you a lot about the rivalry between characters and teams even if you don't understand Japanese. They sometimes bow if fighting their Master, try using a sneak attack, or bad mouthing an enamy before the match, or blow kisses to a good looking character. The game is quite difficult when it comes to the bosses or certain characters that always avoid your best attack but this gives you a good challenge. Those used to playin Guilty Gear or Street Fighter may find KOF stiff and hard to control at first (no game is absolutely perfect)but will soon get into it and appreciate the game for its characters and and techniques that give it a bit of something extra. The characters all have Super combos that allow you to do serious damage to the opposition with a flurry of punches, kicks and sometimes grapples making the game fun to watch. You may even find yourself allowing yourself to get hit by a combo just to awe in the 28 hit combo your about to recieve.

I love the King Of Fighters Video Game. I play it on WinKawaks multiplayer my favorite character is Joe (He's a KickBoxer).

Speaking as someone who grew up on SNK rather than Capcom (thank you, second-hand NeoGeo), I'm no doubt biased. Still, I love KoF, and I even love Art of Fighting and Fatal Fury. Just thought I'd mention that, heh.

kof is one of the best fighting game series around that's fact. most of the characters are pretty cool like terry, mai, kyo, mary, etc. the art in 2001 was the best, perhaps the best in the series, though the art in 2003,2002,etc. sucked when it came to "most" of the characters.but nice review

What the hell are you talking about, kof stiff, hard to control,I don't know if you are from the u.s but I guess so.
I used to play a lot of street fighter 2,hell yeah,it was my favorite game but then kof came out and XD this game rocks! I didn't feel the controls weird, for me it was better, faster, cooler gameplay than street fighter.
