Flame of Recca tv Review

Recca Hanabishi is a 16 year old boy who has the ability to create fire in his hands, as he was destined to become a leader someday. His powers came from a 400 year old clan who he does not know anything about. A year after his birth, Recca's father Ouka came into a conflict with Oda Nobunaga a powerful warlord seeking for the clan's Elemental Weapons. Due to this conflict Recca's mother Kagerou was forced to used a forbidden technique only to save Recca hoping that he would be safe.

Recca being vulnerable to his own background was left clueless as to what is happening. Recca was followed by an old friend who he has connection to and he does not know anything about this enemy of his, and will he able to figure out his true purpose.

Story & Characters

<a href="http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=662">Flame of Recca</a> basically talks of a young boy, Hanabishi Recca, with extraodinary powers - that is he is able to shoot flame from his hands. He is soon involved in a fight that spans over 400 years. I won't go inot the detail as that would obviously be spoilers.

The Anime was enjoyable for the first part but soon, many changes were made to the plot and it ended abruptly in the middle of the whole storyline (around volume 16 of 33). Thus if you want to know the whole story you would have to read the <a href="http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=2701">manga</a>.

If I were rating the storyline of the manga, I would give it a 9/10 but since it's the anime that is the subject here, I would sadly have to give it a 7/10 because of the edits and the many fights (and yes fighting is the selling point of the series) being cut short.

Conclusion: Watch the anime to decide whether you want to continue this series first and then continue reading the manga if you like it.

Art

Ths art is just so-so for the anime. From what I can see, the way characters are drawn in the anime is pretty different from the manga. As for the manga, Nobuyuki Anzai's art has greatly improved. If you compare the art for the first volume and the last volume, you would see a huge difference.

The anime 's art is somehow similar to the earlier volumes of Flame of Recca manga,. Though it isn't the best, it isn't an eyesore either. The characters are sometimes drawn very <a href="http://www.anzwers.org/free/samanime/recca/reccas0112.jpg" title="Hanabishi Recca">differently</a> from the manga and the chins of the characters are also too "<a href="http://www.anzwers.org/free/samanime/recca/reccas0113.jpg" title="Sakoshita Yanagi">sharp</a>". The colours of the anime are also too <a href="http://www.anzwers.org/free/samanime/recca/reccas0203.jpg" title="Kirisawa Fukko">dull</a> and look boring to me. But considering that it was completed in the 1990s, it is considered quite good for me.

And thus 9/10 for the manga's art and 7/10 for the <a href="http://www.anzwers.org/free/samanime/recca/recca0.html">anime art</a>.

Sound

When it comes to music/sound, I find it hard to describe so bear with me.

The music of Flame of Recca is definitely better than the art/storyline. The music are often catchy and fits into the atmosphere well. The opening song, "<a href="http://www.animelyrics.com/anime/recca/fornanka.htm">Nanka Shiawase</a>", has very cheerful lyrics and had very fitting animation as well. Though I do not really like the first ending song, "<a href="http://www.animelyrics.com/anime/recca/forlove.htm">Love is Changing</a>" very well, the second ending song ,"<a href="http://www.animelyrics.com/anime/recca/forzknsd.htm">Zutto Kimi ni Soba de</a>" is definitely one of my favourites.

Overall the background music of the series is pretty well done too. The music for the fights also kind of make me feel that I am somehow part of the fight as well.

This series also have a very good cast of seiyuu as well. With seiyuu like Mitsuishi Kotono (e.g. Starring " Murrue Ramius" Gundam Seed) who is also part of many other popular anime series, the voices "fit" the characters pretty well.

Thus I will rate the sound presentation of this anime as 8/10.

Presentation

The characters are very humourous and gives me laughs. The main character, Hanabishi Recca, is a dim-witted friend and he cooks up a lot of jokes. Another character, "Mikagami Tokiya", has a very "cold" personality and it's really funny to see how he reacts when someone else is treating him "warmingly". As for originalty, the credit goes to Nobuyuki Anzai and this story is pretty original. There are secrets to be found out, answers to some questions to be found, and you really wanted to know when Recca will get his next dragon. To find out all the answers, however, you have to read the manga.

Nothing is perfect, and this applies for this as well. There are some <a href="http://recca.lamassu.net/inconsistencies.htm">inconsistencies</a> as well but it doesn't harm the storyline very much.

If this was the manga, I would like to give it a 9/10 (there are also plot holes in the manga as well!).

Thus because of the plot holes, story line cutting of the anime etc., I will rate it a 7/10 instead of 9/10.

It is an uncanny interesting work. It is also one of the favorite works of mine. Is it the highest even if it takes a character, a story, a picture, and anything in its hand?
