Mobile Fighter G Gundam

Mobile Fighter G Gundam tv Review

Story & Characters

Story Introduction
Kasshu Domon , the pilot of Shining Gundam ( and later , the iconic God Gundam ) and the disciple of Master Asia , the Undefeatable of the East , takes part in the thirteenth Gundam Fight which is taken part by representatives around the world to gain the right to be the top of the world.
Domon was also searching for his lost brother and the missing Devil Gundam.

Main Character Introduction

Kasshu Domon
Kasshu Domon is , as usual with Gundam protaginists , fairly hot-blooded and firm on the concept of what he believes is right.
He pilots the Shining Gundam in the tourney and later on , he pilots the God Gundam ( Or known to some as Burning Gundam ) in the later part of the storyline.
Domon had trained many years under the renowned Master Asia and have developed extreme combat skills as a result.

Story Overview
In contrast to all the other Gundam series , G Gundam is perhaps the most downright ridiculous.
Perhaps as a breather from all the intense plotlines?
Storyline-wise , it is extremely "Shonen-style" , minimal storyline and a heck load of action.
Watching this means you use your eyes and ears more than using your brains compared to the other Gundam series where you have to dwell deeply into the meaning of the war that had taken place and on occasions , whether a certain character is just or misled.

G Gundam is simply a straight forward punch in the face for unexpecting Gundam fans , whom may be thoroughly thrown off by the unexpected turn of genre and concept of the series.
There is absolutely nothing deep to this series.

Art

Artwork Review
I'd try to review it as accordingly to the Anime's age.
As usual , Gundam artwork is impressive in comparison to most of the other Anime of it's time , however , it does not seem to take into account the usual "effects" the other Gundam series used to have.

Explosions are accounted in a more realistic manner in previous installments , the fluttering of the clothes , every detail which was brought about to their fullest in , for example , Gundam Zeta , does not exist in G Gundam.
To put it bluntly , everything was "Shonenized" , massive explosions , exaggerated combat scenarios... you get the idea.

It's not just the concept itself which is cheesy , the artwork flows along with it.
The battles are also displayed in a very "Shonen" manner and I believe the words "Dragonball" would come in handy at such a time.
Just imagine Gundam + Dragonball , it can't be that difficult.

Sound

Music Review
Hmm... How do I put it.
The music tends to bring about the impression of "manliness with an indefinite amount of cheesiness" ... or something along those lines.
It's hard to understand why the developers want to coat G Gundam completely with cheese , but I daresay some of the music , particularly the Opening of G Gundam was exceptionally memorable.
It's not the typical 80s or 90s Gundam music you would hear so in a way G Gundam makes itself stands out with it's unique choices in music.

Seiyu Review
I wouldn't say that the voices are actually good. In fact , some of them are actually pretty much just a weeny bit above average.
However , the choices of voices are unique.
Like Amuro , Kami and Char , some of the characters have voices of which you could rarely hear anywhere else.
Like Master Asia ( I've only heard his voice just as it is in Utawarerumono ) and some of the other casts in the Anime.
Undeniably , it is unique and perhaps one could call distinct and memorable.

Presentation

This is a Review of Mobile Fighter G Gundam
The embodiment of cheesiness , the embodiment of frightening amount of cheesiness , the very concentration which can make your hair stand on it's ends in utter manly embarrassment is none other than G Gundam!
Well , G Gundam is perhaps off the list of most Gundam fans owing to it's incredibly cheesy storyline and concept ( It's literally coated with cheese... and the fillings are cheese , too ) .
The more I look at this Anime , I seriously wonder what BANDAI was up to.
Gundam was filled with epic storylines , deep warfares , undeniable rivalries , sacrifices and pain.... and there we have it , something that sticks out like a sore thumb,
But in some ways , it is a very enjoyable "sore thumb" we'r talking about here.

Overall : Others

Comedy
Comedy...Comedy...Comedy...
Wait , was there any humor in the Anime...?
Wait , let me thi-
OF COURSE THERE IS!
This entire Anime is literally a joke! A pun on the Gundam series! It's blasphemy to Gundam fans!
... But funnily so.
Everything is taken to a super-serious level in a super-exaggerated way , so much so that it's difficult not to laugh at this Anime as a whole.
Why , even the ending of the Anime have to be cheesy.
"These hands of..." ... I shouldn't give out spoilers now , can I?

Enjoyability?
This Anime is only meant for people with a wider mindset and a good sense of humor.
Hardcore Gundam fans would be thoroughly put off by such a plotline - particularly those whom only dig into the series for it's deep warfares.
G Gundam offers nothing but action and well , lots of exaggerated scenarios brought to the levels of which would bring a Magical Girl Anime to a more realistic level in comparison.
That's just how cheesy it was.
Still , personally , I've enjoyed it. It was whacky , funny and the whole series felt as though it was a joke of the Gundam universe with all it's exaggerated battles , emotions and characters.
Not to mention lines spoken by the characters which you would remember for years to come owing to the incredible amount of originality and.... well , cheesiness it bears.
As an add-on , G Gundam does not exist on rationale , nothing about G Gundam is logically explained like in other Gundam series.
Humans that somehow become all superhuman with Kung Fu alone is a mystery indeed.

Trivia
- G Gundam made a lot of appearances outside it's premises and in Doujin works
- G Gundam can be seen in works like Super Robot Wars
- In Battle Moon Wars , Shirou and Sakura can be seen performing an all too familiar move as a combination attack

I didn't know what to make of G Gundam when I first saw it and I still don't. For what it was suppose to be, it certainly wasn't bad. However, the biggest problem I ran into is I just got bored with it. You'd think with a series that has been pumped with so many shounen traits, it would be impossible to get tired of or bored with. Sadly, that wasn't the case.

However, the single best thing that came out of G Gundam was Allenby and Rain.

You did a great job covering what this series was and a very creative way of wording it. As always, excellent use of fun facts and character descriptions as well!

"This comment of mine is burning red, its loud roar tells me to agree with you!"

I love, love G Gundam, but I agree with you 100%- many parts of the anime were just like, "How does that even being to make sense?" I mean, come on- Master Asia destroyed a Gundam with Domon's headband? As manly as that is, it's difficult not to question what the people who created G Gundam were smoking when added details like that.

Great review, and I like that you included interesting facts and trivia. Nice work.

aww and G Gundam was one of my favorites of the series, maybe because it broke some of the seriousness, drama like feel to gundam that all gundam fans know about and gave it a breather and a chance to come full force with the next one being drama filled. I have a lot of the model figures from this series as well. I thought you did a good review on it all the same. and to think it's rare for me to like comedy things, well enough to admit to it and to bother owning some of the merchandise and worse having some of the songs faved on youtube ;) can't wait to see the next review

It's been several years since I watched G Gundam, but I do remember it being overdramatic and cheesy. I distinctly remember liking the American representative, but I don't even remember why. Still, after reading this review I want to go rewatch it for some reason....anyhow, great review! I liked that you accepted at this series for what it is and used lots of humor. I love the parts about the cheesiness. :) As always, you have great organization. Keep up the good work!

Well, G Gundam was indeed... unique.
We got an "interesting" remix of Gundam and Dragonball Z, for example Gundams in the weirdest shapes we
