Katanagatari tv Review

Story & Characters

I liked the plot development and how it kept itself interesting throughout the series especially for someone who has trouble paying attention to plot developments like me. I gave it a 7 because there were parts that it should've shown. Like the fight between the son and father. That would've been amazing to see. That and having so many likable characters die off was a real bummer. Some seemed to just get killed oh a whim. Most of them don't even last a single episode.

Quiet a few of the episodes started off with a flashback or need a flash back to explain how they got to where the story was currently taking place which was both different and annoying. There were times when I couldn't tell If I was watching a flashback or seeing the actual story unfold. Keeping this in mind that this didn't happen very often so don't decide not to watch it just yet.

The fact that each episode was about an hour long meant that it was able to cover more in one episode than other animes could which is a huge plus if you don't like seeing cliff hanger after cliff hanger in each episode. Yet there were still a few unanswered questions left behind. I'm not going to tell you that because I'm afraid it might give away too much of the story.

Art

Great art. Close attention to every detail. Characters had both simple characteristics yet had details placed where it needed to be. The way their faces were drawn was simple yet was able to reflect their personalities. What was kind of strange to me was that I detected a bit of a chibi/shonen mix in the way they were drawn which somehow really worked for them. The quality value of the anime was better than most of the other animes I have seen before which gave me a little bit of hope for the anime industry. What was also interesting was that the ending animations showed the relationship of the two protagonists grow during their journey which, if you're a romantic like me, was kinda awesome. The animation wasn't as aesthetically pleasing as other animes I have seen before like Mushishi which tried it's best to incorporate a little bit of abstract art into itself, then again I guess the goal of the anime wasn't to show off it's visual qualities but rather it's story and character develpoments.

Sound

It was kind of weird to hear hip hop in an anime that takes place in feudal japan, but I guess that's to be expected when you're trying to liven up the mood. However, there were instances where traditional themes were heard. All in all, they did play the music that they thought would match the mood that they were trying to create very well and I can't fault them for do so.Then again, I'm not really a sound guy so I really can't comment very well on that. The voice acting was okay I guess. The actors were able to match the tone and the mood that the animation was trying to create, but like i said before; I'm not a sound guy so I can't comment very well on that.

Presentation

There were plenty of funny parts included, fight scenes were thrilling to see, and like I said before it captures your attention easily. There were however a few clichés included. Dumb, but strong boy meets smart, but weak girl. They gradually fall in love as they travel in search of a few legendary swords. Katanagatari, however, was able to overcome that and added something extra to it. I can't seem to figure out what that was though.

In the end I had some mixed feelings about this anime. I liked seeing it and I wouldn't wish I hadn't seen it, but I don't like sad endings at all. Not a single bit. I, as an audience member, almost subconsciously demanded a happy ending. I recommend watching if you enjoy the ride to the climax of a story. I would hesitate upon watching if you don't like seeing "Romeo and Juliet"-like endings.

well this is a disappointing review. not only did you give a spoiler to one anime you gave one to another one? and what is this anime about? the characters involved (minus the spoilers given) I have never seen nor heard of this anime, so I have no clue what it's about, this review makes it even worse for me to want to see it or not. since I pretty much know what goes on, should I even waste my time?

sorry I was kind of trying to avoid giving out spoilers.I tired my best to keep it as vague as possible. I don't remember putting a spoiler to another anime in there at all though. I'm not really good at writing reviews seeing as how this was the first review I made, so again, I'm very sorry for writing a disappointing review for you

it's not a bad idea to look at other people's reviews before thinking about doing one of your own. I have looked at several before I even started with posting one of my own. trial and error but the two spoilers are located at the first paragraph possibly fourth sentence and the second was in the final verdict where you mentioned another anime in the last sentence. I have seen that anime in question and that pretty much summed up the whole anime for the question in review. it's better to do one review and not combine things or mention other anime unless it's a series/saga.

but like I mentioned check out other reviews, novels aren't expected but something is I meant no disrespect by that comment, and if there was any I am sorry for that.

no no. I probably deserved the harsh judgment. I should've checked out the other reviews and seen how they were made instead of jumping in head first. I'll try harder next time if I ever make another review and try to avoid all of the mistakes I've made before. This was a very good first experience
