Yuu Yuu Hakusho

Yuu Yuu Hakusho tv Review

The notorious Yusuke Urameshi dies while saving a boy's life in a car accident. Despite Yusuke's punk-attitude, he has a heart of gold, which prompt Botan (a beautiful girl who happens to be the grim reaper) and Koenma (the guy who decides who goes to heaven or hell) to give him a second chance in life - and spiritual powers!
Alive once again, Yusuke discovers that he now possesses the "spirit gun", the ability to fire powerful energy blasts. With his new powers, Yusuke is dubbed by Koenma as the "spirit detective" to eradicate any evil that disturbs the balance between the human world and the spirit world. Together with Kuwabara, Kurama, and Hiei, Yusuke (along with his new powers) must destroy anything that threatens not only mankind, but also demonkind.

Story & Characters

Altought a little old, Yuu Yuu Hakusho is the anime that was claimed to be the successor of Dragon Ball. Well, in my opinion, it's better than Dragon Ball, not only the plot but the drawing and the characters. It is not a long story, just 19 volumes and 112 episodes.

Personally, i think that Yuu Yuu Hakusho has a very well-developed plot and it's easy to follow. There's not a lot of mysteries so the connections that are established between arcs are clear and simple.

If i'm not wrong, the final arc in the manga has its own version in the OVAs, called "Eizou Hakusho".

About the characters... they are, in some way, stereotypes. Even thought, there's a underlying originality that makes them unique and charismatic. Throughout the story, they are constantly changing, they do evolve. In the end, despite being themselves, they also share something similar with their peers. Their powers are really strong, even at the beginning but due to an accumulation of circumstances, these powers are dormant. Not until the end do they awake.

Ignoring the fact that this kind of people could not exist, both the life and the past of the characters can be true. I mean, two of them are high school "hooligans" but deep inside, they are soft and good-hearted: they cannot stand cruelty and do have a great sense of honor. The other ones had a difficult childhood so they found on each other his soulmate and became good friends.

Villians have is own terrible past. So, while fighting, we do realize that they were not as bad as we thought, but their lives made them get uncontrolled and therefore "bad guys". Even some of them arouse in the viewer a feeling of tenderness and compassion. Of course, there's always the bad guy that cannot be forgiven.

Yuu Yuu Hakusho is an anime with humor, drama and fellowship. Simply great.

Art

Both the character design and the secenics are really well-done. There's not too much difficult in drawing; stroke is simple and clean but has strenght, character.

Considering that Yuu Yuu Hakusho is an old anime, quality is good enough... though their clothes ar a little old-fashioned.

There're some episodes where the drawing is quiet ugly but to offset that "mistake", the next ones are really good. In fact, i think i just came across 2 or 3 poorly drawn episodes out of 112 so it is not a bad rating.

Nowadays, there's a BlueRay version of the anime that's pretty good. However, the HDTV version is not bad. Moreover, it is the most widespread and easier to find, and it takes up less hard drive size on the computer.

Rating: 9

Sound

All i can say about sound is that the catalan version was really good, great indeed... but i have no records about the original one. However, seeiyus who appear in the anime are a very good ones and from what i've read in magazines, voices really suit characters.

About the opening and ending themes... well, they are all absolutely wonderful. The music used seemed made ??expressly for anime, as if the mangaka himself had designed.

What i dislike are characters' songs. Not awful but close. Maybe there're a couple of songs that can be heard without taking unnecessary risks. In my opinion, the better ones are the songs sung by Hiei and Kurama.

For me, one of the best songs is "Daydream Generation"... it is a song that inspires confidence, which provides strenght allowing us to keep going, to keep fighting and not to surrender never.

Presentation

It's pretty easy to watch this anime cause once you're in, you cannot leave it. Very funny and entertaining even the fighting is good.

The relationship between characters gets stronger during the anime., and it's so solid that it makes you want to be a part of it.

And there's also time for love... just one couple at least one that is real. Maybe there's some suggestion on other possible couples, but they fail to be. Even so, the one real couple is weird... they don't seem to fit together. But in the end, the viewer sees that their relationship can not end any other way. They are meant to be together no matter what.

Strongly recommended, this anime will make you have a good time. And once you finished it, sure you'll begin it again. It's addictive!

i think this anime is better than dragon ball even better than naruto, the simplicity of the story, the awesome episodes, the personalities of the protagonists make this anime very cool from the beggining to the end, the originality of their enemies (the toguros, sensui, and others) and the fights are well made and their development are very interesting.

one of the funniest and coolest stuffs to me are the unexpected ways of kuwabara to get a victory when he is losing, the fantastic techniques of hiei, the smart fights of kurama and the determination of yusuke are mixed to make an original group of friends and a very original anime, considerating that is old, i think that there will not other anime like yuu yuu hakusho, thanks for the review! i would give ten XD 10 yeah!

other than a few grammar and spelling errors nice review. I wished that this anime could have been given more love than the smothering love that dbz is constantly getting. the anime had me by the very beginning and one of the few long ones I was able to watch all the way through and not once get bored with or want to switch to something else, they even left the anime where another season could come about, could be why there is so much fanfics out there pertaining to this, there were also two movies that exists towards this anime (I was able to get the original versions, funimation doesn't have their name on these ;))

over all a nice review, not releasing many things yet kept it short enough that it didn't take me two trips to read it. and I have to admit yyh had an excellent soundtrack to it, the music had a positive beat about it most times, and the opening/ending themes/songs were placed nicely throughout the series.

I've never seen this show but a friend of mine has, he says it's pretty good for an old series. Other than a few grammar and spelling errors I noticed it's a good review. Nice job!

    Thanks for the review Nalataia!

There are some things I'm curious about, like with the dormant powers. Yusuke had to work his powers up, and didn't everyone else? So wouldn't it be better to specify that their powers grew as they did? If you word it like that, then using DBZ as an example, we can say Goku had dormant powers. Now I respect your opinion, but wouldn't you better say that they became as strong as they did by training and overcoming obstacles?

Also, since ten is the highest score you can possibly give something, perhaps provide a bit more depth as to why. You certainly do cover it, but what exactly does Yu Yu bring that truly makes it an "must see" anime for that purpose alone? Generally with such high scores, I like to see a lot of reason to back it up and while you do have some, I'd recommend for those high scoring series to have a much more in-depth section as to why. This is more so personal than anything else and can be completely disregarded.

Considering Yu Yu is a character developing series secondary and a fighting anime primary, I found the fighting to be a big reason why I stuck around and the great character development the benefit of that. I hope to see more reviews from you!

There were a few grammar errors that if fixed would make the review more appealing to read, but as a whole this is a very nice review. I haven't finished the series yet, but I've been a fan ever since I was a kid. :) I probably wouldn't it rate it as high as you did, but you gave pretty good reasoning to back them up, though more depth never hurts. Nice job!

Just to make sure everyone knows... english is not my mother tongue and, as a result, writting a review all in english makes it harder than it will be in spanish or catalan. I know that's not an excuse but i hope you will forgive me for that ^^. However, when i have some free time, i will correct it.

See you... ah! thabk you very much for the comments, they are all so nice! Ja nee

my favourite song during this show is when sun is shining again by takahashi hiro?
my second favourite is unbalanced kiss?also by takahashi hiro
    then come daydream generation?
the good thing with this serie is?not too long either too short?always using the original story from manga itself?besides the fightning scenes and some other scene?if you look at one piece, naruto or bleach the anime is always full of cheap stories because they have reached the manga.YUYU is also a really old serie,from1992 l guess.l believe that l already have watched the whole serie 9 or 10times.its something very special about yuyu,it clears up their lifestyle, the male romantic
